02Overview

A first look

Morning light moves across the Nile as Hambra Nile Cruise leaves the riverbank, with the sun deck opening onto palms, village rooftops, and changing desert views. Between sailing days, the lounge bar and dining room give the journey an easy rhythm, while your cabin provides a quiet place to watch the river through its panoramic window or Nile-view balcony, where available.

The vessel’s shore-excursion program connects sailing with time at Karnak, Luxor Temple, Edfu, Kom Ombo, Philae, and the Valley of the Kings. It sails weekly in both directions between Luxor and Aswan. We select and arrange your cabin, embarkation, excursions, and disembarkation as a licensed Egyptian tour operator, with our Egyptologists guiding you ashore.

Accessibility

Who can join this

The cruise requires moderate physical mobility: expect stairs between decks, uneven gangplanks at some docks, and cobblestone or sandy terrain at several archaeological sites. Shore excursions include walking on uneven ancient stone, steps in temple complexes, and short stretches of loose sand; many temple entrances have 10 to 30 steps and limited handrails. Wheelchair users can travel on the vessel, but access to some landing stages, smaller docks, and certain tombs is restricted. If you use a mobility scooter or wheelchair, tell us in advance so we can advise which sites are practicable and arrange the most accessible boarding point. Our Egyptologists and shore teams can provide assistance on board and at larger ports, but independent transfer across uneven surfaces may still be required for some excursions.

Before you go

  • Sunscreen SPF30 or higher, refillable bottle recommended
  • Comfortable walking shoes with a grippy sole
  • Lightweight daypack for excursions, with water bottle
  • Any required medicines and a small first-aid kit
  • Plug adapter (Egypt uses types C and F, 220V)

  • Covered shoulders and knees for mosques and some temple areas

Children & families

Children 0–5.99 years travel free; 6–11.99 years pay 50% of the adult fare; children 12 years and older pay the full adult price. All children must share a cabin with their parents, with a maximum of one child per occupied cabin; two or more children require a separate cabin. Strollers are practical on board but can be difficult to use at some smaller landing stages and at archaeological sites with steps; bring a lightweight, foldable stroller if required. High chairs are not guaranteed on every vessel, so request them at time of booking if needed.

Responsible travel

How we travel here

The cruise uses modern diesel-powered river cruisers, and we contract locally owned vessels and Egyptian crew for all sailings. Transfers arranged by us employ air-conditioned minibuses meeting local emissions standards; we work with providers who maintain vehicles to reduce fuel waste. On board, single-use plastics are limited to medical needs; water is provided in refillable containers where the vessel supports safe refilling. Organic and locally sourced produce is prioritized for the ship galley when available, and shore excursions are guided by licensed Egyptian Egyptologists from the communities we visit. Port fees and landing charges contribute directly to local authorities and small businesses, notably the cafes, craft shops, and small-boat operators serving landing stages. We recommend guests opt for moderate tipping for guides and crew, as those gratuities are an essential part of incomes for on-the-ground staff.

  • Licensed local Egyptologists

    ETAA-credentialed, on payroll

  • Fair wages on the ground

  • Site preservation

We follow MoTA visitor caps and no-touch protocols
