3-Day Cairo & Alexandria Tour

A full day in Alexandria, then the Giza Pyramids, the Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum. Two hotel nights, airport transfers and an Egyptologist guide are included.

The short answer

3-Day Cairo & Alexandria Tour is a 3-day, 2-night trip to Cairo and Alexandria: 2 nights in Cairo. It includes an Egyptologist guide, entrance fees and transfers. Prices start at $605 per person, two sharing (Essential, October–April).

02Overview

A first look

Three days is short, so this plan keeps it simple. You sleep both nights in the same Cairo hotel and never repack. Day 1 is your arrival. Day 2 belongs to Alexandria, Egypt's old Mediterranean port, and nothing else.

Day 3 is Giza: the pyramids, the Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum with lunch in between. After that, a driver takes you to the airport. We arrange the airport transfers, the hotel and the sightseeing, and you choose the standard of hotel when you book. The sightseeing is the same at every standard.

What lingers

  • 01A full day in Alexandria with the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa and the Citadel of Qaitbay
  • 02The Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the modern library beside the ancient one's site
  • 03Giza Pyramids and the Great Sphinx with your Egyptologist
  • 04The Grand Egyptian Museum in the same day
  • 05Two nights in one Cairo hotel, with no repacking
  • 06Airport pickup on arrival and a transfer to the airport on departure

Field notes

From our Egyptologists

  1. 01

Alexandria is a long day, so eat breakfast before pick-up and pack a light layer for the sea wind.

  2. 02

Hold your Qaitbay Citadel photos for the seaward walls, where the Mediterranean fills the frame behind the stone.

  3. 03

Save energy for day three: Giza and the Grand Egyptian Museum together make a big, walk-heavy morning.

  4. 04

Ask your guide to point out the library's carved granite wall inside the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

Tailor it

Make it yours

Choose your hotel standard when you book. Ask us about adding nights in Cairo or extending the trip to Luxor and Aswan.

All requests handled by your dedicated specialist before booking.

Suited to

Is this for you?

Yes, if

  • Travelers with a long weekend in Egypt who want the pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum plus a second city on the coast. Suited to couples, friends and solo travelers who are comfortable walking and spending a long day on the road.

Maybe not, if

  • Travelers who need step-free access to every site, or who want a slow pace. Day 2 is about 12 hours with the drives.

Honest assessment

Real trade-offs from our experience managing this tour.

Highlights

  • Alexandria and Giza with the Grand Egyptian Museum in three days
  • One hotel for both nights, so no repacking
  • Alexandria gets a day of its own, with no other stops

Things to Consider

  • Day 2 is about 12 hours including the drives
  • Uneven stone, steps and little shade at Giza
  • No time for Luxor, Aswan or a Nile cruise

Where it fits

A good short trip for a long weekend, or a stopover with a few days to spare. For Luxor, Aswan or a Nile cruise, choose a longer tour.

Worth knowing

How this compares

Alexandria is often added to a Cairo stay as a rushed side trip. Here it has its own day, with the catacombs, the modern library, the Qaitbay Citadel and the Montaza Palace gardens, and Giza follows on day 3.

Day 2 is about 12 hours with the drives, so think about how your child copes with a long day in the car.

Accessibility

Who can join this

Both sightseeing days involve a lot of walking. Giza has uneven ground, sand and little shade. The Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa and the Citadel of Qaitbay have steps and narrow passages. Alexandria is about 12 hours in total with the drives, so it suits people who are comfortable on their feet. The vehicle is air-conditioned, but we cannot promise wheelchair access at every site. Tell us your needs when you book and we will say honestly which parts suit you.

– Responsible travel

How we travel here

This tour uses road transport only, and the vehicle type can vary, so we do not claim a carbon saving. Both days are guided by local Egyptologists and arranged through suppliers in Cairo and Alexandria, so much of what you spend stays in the places you visit. We ask guests to carry a refillable water bottle and to leave painted walls and carvings untouched.

  • Licensed Egyptologist guides

State-licensed, and people we have worked with for years

  • Fair wages on the ground

Drivers + guides paid above market

  • Site preservation

We follow the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities' site rules: marked paths, no touching reliefs

  • Local teams, real help

Our own offices in Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Hurghada, Marsa Alam and Sharm El Sheikh

Asked & answered

Frequent questions

  1. 01How much of day 2 is spent driving?
The whole day is about 12 hours including the drives from Cairo to Alexandria and back. The rest is sightseeing and a lunch stop. It suits people who are comfortable walking and sitting in a car for a good part of the day.
  2. 02Is anything else planned on the Alexandria day?
No. Day 2 is Alexandria only, so you are not rushed between cities. You return to your Cairo hotel in the evening.
  3. 03Are the guide and entrance fees included?
Yes. A licensed Egyptologist guides both sightseeing days, and entrance fees to the scheduled sites in Alexandria, at Giza and at the Grand Egyptian Museum are included, with the air-conditioned vehicle.
  4. 04Which hotel will we stay in?
You choose a standard when you book, from budget to luxury, and we name the hotel for your dates. You stay both nights in the same Cairo hotel.
  5. 05Is lunch included?
On day 3 lunch is included at a restaurant near Giza. On day 2 the tour stops for lunch overlooking the Mediterranean, but we confirm with you at booking whether it is included or paid on the day. Breakfast comes with your hotel on both days.
  6. 06Will I make my international flight?
Day 3 ends with the airport transfer, so we plan the sightseeing around your flight time. If you are arriving in Cairo on a domestic flight, remember that domestic and international tickets are separate bookings, so a delayed domestic flight can cost you the connection. If you must connect the same day, choose a late-evening or night international flight. Take travel insurance that covers missed connections.
  7. 07What is not included?
International flights, the Egypt visa, tips for guides and drivers, drinks and meals other than those stated, and the Khufu pyramid interior.
  8. 08When is the best time to go?
October to April is cooler and the most comfortable for walking. Summers are hot, so in those months sightseeing starts early.
