3-Day Luxor Tour from Marsa Alam
Two nights in Luxor, a private driver from your resort hotel, an Egyptologist on every sightseeing day and the entrance fees included.
The short answer
3-Day Luxor Tour from Marsa Alam is a 3-day, 2-night trip to Luxor and Marsa Alam: 2 nights in Luxor. It includes an Egyptologist guide, entrance fees and transfers. Prices start at $722 per person, two sharing (Essential, October–April).
02Overview
A first look
Marsa Alam is a beach and diving base, and Luxor is the best place in Egypt to see the Pharaohs' temples and tombs. This three-day luxor tour from Marsa Alam joins the two. A private driver collects you at your hotel in Marsa Alam and takes you across to Luxor by road. That first day is a long one, so we keep the sightseeing to Luxor Temple and the evening sound and light show at Karnak.
Day 2 is the West Bank: the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut's temple and the Colossi of Memnon. On day 3 you visit Luxor Museum, then drive back to Marsa Alam. Your resort stay, your hotel in Marsa Alam and your international flights are not part of this trip. We book the two Luxor nights, the transfers, the guiding and the entrance fees.

Day by day
Detailed itinerary
3 Days / 2 Nights · Marsa Alam · Luxor · Luxor Temple · Karnak Temple · Valley of the Kings · Hatshepsut Temple
- 1
Your private driver collects you at your hotel in Marsa Alam for the road journey to Luxor. It is a long drive, so the rest of the day is kept light. In Luxor you visit Luxor Temple with a private Egyptologist, with the vehicle and the entrance ticket included. In the evening you go to Karnak Temple for the sound and light show, a two-hour performance.
Then you check in to your Luxor hotel for the night. Meals are not included today.
- 2
After breakfast you cross to the West Bank with your Egyptologist and an air-conditioned vehicle for a tour of about six hours. You visit the Valley of the Kings, where the entrance fees for three tombs are included, then the terraced mortuary temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari and the Colossi of Memnon. The tombs are hot and the site has little shade, so bring water.
You return to your Luxor hotel for a second night.
- 3
After breakfast you check out and your driver takes you to Luxor Museum for a half-day visit with a private Egyptologist. The entrance ticket is included. It is a calm, well-lit museum, a good way to put the temples and tombs you have seen into context. Afterward your private driver takes you back to Marsa Alam by road. The journey is long, so plan nothing important for the evening.

Field notes
From our Egyptologists
- 01
Leave Marsa Alam early on day one so you reach Luxor with time to spare before the evening show.
- 02
Bring a light scarf or shawl to the Karnak show; it can turn breezy once the sun is down.
- 03
Photography rules inside the Valley of the Kings tombs differ from site to site, so check with your guide first.
- 04
Start the Luxor Museum visit with the Tutankhamun-era pieces, then slow down at the displays you enjoy most.
Tailor it
Make it yours
Choose your Luxor hotel standard when you book. Ask us about extra nights in Luxor, a hot-air balloon flight over the West Bank, or a longer trip that adds a Nile cruise.
All requests handled by your dedicated specialist before booking.
Suited to
Is this for you?
Yes, if
- Guests on a Marsa Alam beach or diving vacation who want to see the temples and tombs of Luxor without arranging it themselves. Suited to couples, friends, families with older children and solo travelers who can handle long drives and a day of walking.
Maybe not, if
- Travelers who need step-free access to every site, or who dislike long road journeys. Days 1 and 3 each include the drive between Marsa Alam and Luxor.
Honest assessment
Real trade-offs from our experience managing this tour.
Highlights
- Luxor Temple, Karnak by night, the Valley of the Kings and Luxor Museum in three days
- Two nights in Luxor, so the West Bank is not rushed
- Private driver and Egyptologist, no flights to catch
Things to Consider
- A long road journey on day 1 and again on day 3
- Uneven stone, steps and little shade at the West Bank sites
- Only breakfast is included, on days 2 and 3
Where it fits
A good fit for a beach vacation that needs a break with ancient history. It is not an airport-to-airport Egypt tour, because your resort stay and international flights are separate.
Worth knowing
How this compares
A single day trip to Luxor from Marsa Alam means a very long day for a small amount of sightseeing. This three-day version spends two nights in Luxor, so the temples, tombs and museum are not squeezed into one rushed day. Hotel standard is your choice; the sightseeing does not change.

Children & families
Children are welcome. Each child needs a seat in the private vehicle, and hotel and ticket costs depend on the child's age, so we give you the exact figure when you tell us the age at booking. Two days include a long road journey between Marsa Alam and Luxor, and the Karnak sound and light show runs for about two hours in the evening, so think about how your child copes with long car days and late nights. Tombs are hot and steep in places.
Accessibility
Who can join this
Luxor Temple, the Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut's temple involve walking on uneven stone and sand, with steps and some narrow, sloping tomb passages. The West Bank has long open stretches with little shade. Luxor Museum is easier underfoot, but we cannot promise step-free access at every site. Vehicles are private and air-conditioned. The road journey between Marsa Alam and Luxor is long, and the Karnak show is an evening outing. Tell us your needs when you book and we will say honestly which parts suit you.

Asked & answered
Frequent questions
01How long is the drive between Marsa Alam and Luxor?
It is a long road journey each way, on day 1 and again on day 3. That is why day 1 has only Luxor Temple and the evening show, and day 3 has only the museum before the drive back. A private vehicle with a driver is included both ways.02Is the Valley of the Kings included?
Yes. Day 2 is a West Bank day of about six hours with your Egyptologist, and the entrance fees for three tombs in the Valley of the Kings are included. Premium tombs such as Tutankhamun's need a separate ticket.03Is this a private tour?
Yes. Your driver and your Egyptologist are private for the transfers and for Luxor Temple and Luxor Museum. On day 2 the guide and transport are arranged for your group.04What is the Karnak sound and light show?
It is an evening performance of about two hours at Karnak Temple, with lights and narration telling the story of the site. Admission is included on day 1. It is not the same as a daytime visit to the temple.05What happens to my resort room while I am away?
This trip does not include your resort stay. Many guests keep their Marsa Alam room and leave bags there. Check with your hotel before you go, because we do not arrange this for you.06Can I fly home the day I get back to Marsa Alam?
We would rather you did not. Road journeys can run late, and we only arrange the road transfer back to your hotel. If you must leave that day, choose a late-evening flight, allow a wide margin, and take travel insurance that covers a missed flight.07Are meals included?
Breakfast is included on days 2 and 3 at your Luxor hotel. Day 1 has no meals included, so plan to eat on the road and in Luxor. Lunch and dinner on days 2 and 3 are paid by you.08Which hotel will we stay in?
You choose a standard when you book, from budget to luxury, and we name the Luxor hotel for your dates. The sightseeing is the same at every standard.09What is not included?
International flights, the Egypt visa, your Marsa Alam hotel and resort stay, tips for guides and drivers, drinks, the meals not listed above, the Khufu pyramid interior and premium tombs in the Valley of the Kings.
