Get your bearings

What Hurghada actually is

Hurghada is where most people's Red Sea begins. Once a small fishing village, it's now the coast's busiest hub – a long strip of resorts facing a scatter of islands and reefs, and the easiest beach finish in Egypt thanks to its own international airport and a four-hour road link to Luxor. If you want temples one day and a reef the next, this is how you do it.

The water is the point. Day-boats run out to Giftun Island and the white sandbar of Orange Bay, dive centers cover every level, and the house reefs off the bigger hotels are good enough that some people barely leave the beach. On the days you're not in the sea, the Eastern Desert delivers quad bikes, Bedouin dinners and some of the clearest night skies near the coast.

What you're really here to see

The landmarks that make Hurghada

White sandbar and turquoise shallows at Orange Bay off Hurghada 01

Giftun Island & Orange Bay

The postcard day trip – a protected island ringed by white sandbars and shallow reef, under an hour out by boat. Snorkel straight off the back, lunch on the sand, and watch the water turn every shade of blue on the way home.

Full day by boat

The house reefs & dive sites

Hurghada is one of the easiest places in the world to learn to dive and a fine base for fun dives – walls, wrecks and bommies a short boat ride out, with well-run multilingual centers and warm, clear water nearly all year.

Half or full day

A 4x4 and quad bikes crossing the Eastern Desert near Hurghada 03

Eastern Desert safari

The dry-day option: quad bikes and 4×4s into the Eastern Desert, a Bedouin camp for dinner and tea, and a night sky with no city to dim it. An easy half-day that balances out all the time in the water.

Half day

Time to allow

How many days in Hurghada?

Hurghada is built for a stay of a few nights – diver or not.

2 nights The add-on

A quick coastal breather after the Nile – one island-and-reef day, one beach day, then onward.

3–4 nights The right amount

Time to dive or snorkel a couple of sites, fit a desert safari, and still spend a full day on a lounger.

5–7 nights A beach week

For families settling into a resort or divers ticking off sites – long enough to slow right down.

From Luxor The classic finish

Drive or fly from Luxor for a few reef days at the end of the temples-and-Nile circuit.

Where it fits

Hurghada in your itinerary

Hurghada is the convenient finale – the closest reef to the Nile Valley.

From Luxor

A four-hour drive or short flight – the natural beach finish straight after the temples.

From Cairo

A 50-minute flight, making a reef-and-history split easy to arrange in one trip.

Island & reef days

Day-boats to Giftun and Orange Bay; dive centers for every level from first dip to wreck diving.

Desert on the side

Quad bikes, Bedouin dinners and stargazing fill the non-water days without leaving the coast.

KaiSai Romance Resort, Pickalbatros Palace – Hurghada

KaiSai Romance Resort, Pickalbatros Palace is a Hurghada resort we book for couples and seaside stays. We do not run large coach groups here; we allocate rooms and transfers privately so arrivals are calmer and more flexible. We arrange private transfers, tailor-made snorkel excursions on the Red Sea, and in-resort requests such as room location or early dinners. Trade-off: the resort pace favors relaxation, so guests wanting Hurghada’s downtown nightlife will need a short taxi each evening. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and handle all local logistics for your stay.

Pickalbatros Dana Beach Resort, Hurghada

Pickalbatros Dana Beach Resort, Hurghada

Pickalbatros Dana Beach Resort sits on Hurghada’s Red Sea shore; we book rooms, transfers and day trips from the marina. We don't include this resort in rushed Nile circuits; we sell it as a beach complement to desert or Luxor visits. Compared with small Hurghada guesthouses, resort bookings centralize logistics: one transfer, one invoice, and excursions bookable through our office. Pros: straightforward airport transfers and easy access to snorkel and dive departures. Cons: busiest in July–August, limited beach shade at midday, and pool areas can be noisy. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator; ask about private transfers and dive bookings.

Swiss Inn Resort Hurghada

Swiss Inn Resort Hurghada sits on Hurghada’s Red Sea coast; we book rooms and arrange private transfers, diving, and snorkel trips. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and operate on-the-ground support from our Hurghada office. We do not run large coach-group beach packages; instead we coordinate private or small-group water activities with local dive centres so you receive formal briefings and smaller dive teams. Expect the resort to be busiest during Egyptian and European high seasons, and limited shade on the main beach at midday. Room rates typically exclude gratuities and optional dives; we can add those services on request.

Beach Albatros Resort, Hurghada

Beach Albatros Resort, Hurghada

Beach Albatros Resort Hurghada sits on the Red Sea shoreline in Hurghada. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator we arrange private airport transfers, timed snorkel and dive trips, and local support from our Cairo office. We favour this property for guests who prioritise direct beach access and organised water activity slots; unlike cruise-ship shore excursions, we pre-book private boats and timed dive slots to avoid crowded turnarounds. Trade-offs: the resort is busy in high season, midday shade on the main beach is limited, and some standard rooms face the pool rather than the sea.

Pickalbatros Palace Resort Hurghada – Red Sea Beach Resort

Pickalbatros Palace Resort Hurghada – Red Sea Beach Resort

Pickalbatros Palace Resort Hurghada sits on Hurghada's Red Sea shoreline with private beach access. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and we book rooms, private airport transfers, and snorkel excursions directly with local partners. We don't run large coach transfers; instead we use private air-conditioned cars and a local representative meets you on arrival. Unlike packaged bus tours that compress shore time, our bookings prioritize flexible check-in and optional morning or afternoon snorkel departures. Trade-offs: summer daytime heat is strong and beach shade is limited at midday; sea visibility varies after storms.

Pickalbatros White Beach Resort, Hurghada

Pickalbatros White Beach Resort, Hurghada

Pickalbatros White Beach Resort sits on Hurghada's Red Sea coast with direct beach access and on-site water-sports facilities. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we arrange private airport transfers, daily boat trips to Giftun Islands, and guided snorkeling at the house reef. Unlike mass-package operators that fix excursion times, we schedule morning departures to avoid the busiest hours at popular reefs. Distinctive trade-offs: summer daytime temperatures commonly exceed 35°C and shade on open beaches is limited at midday, so early snorkeling and midday pool time are common guest choices. We can add private dive instruction or tailored family options on request.

Pickalbatros Aqua Park Resort, Hurghada

Pickalbatros Aqua Park Resort, Hurghada

Pickalbatros Aqua Park Resort Hurghada is a Red Sea beachfront resort with an on-site waterpark suitable for families and active travelers. We prioritize direct bookings with the resort to secure waterpark access and preferred room locations rather than relying on anonymous online aggregators. Unlike mass-market package operators, we can add private airport transfers, early check-in, tailored meal plans, and snorkel or diving excursions from Hurghada. Expect higher occupancy and longer waterpark queues during school holidays; quieter stays are achievable outside July–August and major European school breaks. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we manage local logistics, on-site liaison, and any special requests for your stay.

As a licensed Egyptian tour operator we arrange room reservations, private airport transfers, beach access, Red Sea snorkel trips, and 24/7 local support. We do not run large coach tours at this property; most clients prefer private transfers and staggered arrival times. Unlike Hurghada city hotels, Sahl Hasheesh was planned around a protected bay and a pedestrian promenade. Trade-offs: limited shade at midday and summer daytime highs commonly exceed 95°F (35°C). Tell us your arrival time and we’ll reserve early check-in or a shaded room where available.

Best time to visit

When to go to Hurghada

Swimmable year-round – there's no truly bad time on this coast.

March–May & Sep–Nov · best

Warm air, warm water and calm seas (25–32°C). The sweet spot for diving and beach days without peak summer heat.

June–August · hot

35–40°C on land, but the sea breeze and the water make it bearable, and the diving is superb. Busy with European summer holidays.

December–February · mild

Cooler air in the low 20s and a wetsuit helps in the water, but it's sunny, quiet and a warm winter escape.

Windy days

The coast can get breezy, which kicks up chop for the day-boats. A flexible plan shifts the island trip to the calmer morning.

The practical part

Getting there & around

The most connected point on the coast – the practical part.

01

Getting in

Hurghada (HRG) takes direct international charters and quick domestic flights from Cairo. From Luxor it's a four-hour drive or a short hop.

02

Where to stay

The resort strip runs for miles; we match the hotel to your trip – quieter Sahl Hasheesh and Makadi Bay to the south, livelier El Gouna to the north.

03

Getting around

Resorts are self-contained and reef and desert trips include hotel pickup. A taxi covers the marina and old town; a car is rarely needed.

04

Diving & snorkeling

Centers cater to every level with multilingual instructors. We line up the dive school or snorkel boat before you arrive.

Common questions

Hurghada, answered

01 Is Hurghada good for a beach holiday after a Nile cruise? +

Yes – it's the closest Red Sea resort to Luxor (a four-hour drive or short flight), with its own airport, making it a natural beach finish after the temples and the Nile. Three or four nights is the usual stay.

02 What is there to do in Hurghada besides the beach? +

Day-boats to Giftun Island and Orange Bay, snorkeling and diving on the house reefs and offshore sites, glass-bottom and dolphin boats, and Eastern Desert safaris by quad bike or 4×4 with a Bedouin dinner.

03 Is Hurghada good for families? +

Yes – shallow protected bays, kids' clubs, all-inclusive resorts and easy snorkeling make it low-effort with children, while the reefs and islands keep older kids and adults busy.

04 When is the best time to visit Hurghada? +

Spring and autumn (March–May, September–November) are ideal – warm water, calm seas and comfortable air. But the sea is swimmable all year, so there's no truly bad time.

05 Hurghada or Marsa Alam – which is better? +

Hurghada is closer to Luxor, livelier and full of family resorts and day-boat reefs. Marsa Alam, further south, is quieter with better house reefs and dolphins. We match the town to your priorities.
