Giza is where Cairo stops and the desert – and the ancient world – begins. The plateau on the city's western edge holds the three great pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, the Sphinx crouched below them, and, since 2024, the Grand Egyptian Museum on the rise above. It's the single most concentrated patch of wonder in Egypt, and it's twenty minutes from a working modern city.
Technically a governorate of its own, Giza is part of Greater Cairo for any traveler – most people stay in Cairo and come here for a day. The Great Pyramid is the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World still standing, and the only one you can climb inside; the GEM next door now holds the complete Tutankhamun collection.

01The oldest and largest of the three, and the last of the Seven Wonders left standing. Built around 2560 BC, it held the record as the tallest structure on earth for nearly four thousand years. The interior passage to the King's Chamber is a separate ticket worth taking.

02A lion's body and a pharaoh's face carved from a single ridge of limestone, facing the sunrise for four and a half thousand years. Smaller than the photos suggest, and all the more human for it – stand at the viewing terrace early, before the haze.

Your ticket grants access to the Karnak Temple Sound & Light Show in Luxor's Karnak complex. The show uses Arabic and English narration and projected lighting across the Great Hypostyle Hall. We sell the show as a standalone evening option rather than bundling it into daytime tours. Unlike nighttime Nile dinners or cruise shore excursions, the Sound & Light focuses on architectural storytelling, not dining logistics. Seating is outdoors on stone benches; there is limited shade and some uneven footing. Show entrance is included in the ticket price; private transfers and an Egyptologist guide are available on request. Book early: seating is limited.
A full-day visit to Memphis, Sakkara (Saqqara), Dahshur and the Unas Pyramid south of Cairo. See the Step Pyramid of Djoser, Unas Pyramid with its Pyramid Texts, the Bent and Red Pyramids of Sneferu, and the Colossus of Ramses II at Mit Rahina. We treat Dahshur as a deliberate stop rather than a quick drive-by, because the Bent and Red Pyramids require time to inspect properly. Best time to visit
Exposed desert plateau – the season and the time of day both matter.
Warm days and clear light on the stone (20–28°C). Peak season; arrive at opening to beat both the heat and the coaches.
35–40°C with little shade on the plateau. Go at 8am or save it for the cooler late afternoon; prices and crowds both ease.
First light and last light are best for photographs and comfort. Midday is harsh and busy – the museum is the place to be then.
Camel and horse rides are optional and heavily touted. We arrange a fair, calm one if you want it – and run interference if you don't.
