Giza is where Cairo stops and the desert – and the ancient world – begins. The plateau on the city's western edge holds the three great pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, the Sphinx crouched below them, and, since 2024, the Grand Egyptian Museum on the rise above. It's the single most concentrated patch of wonder in Egypt, and it's twenty minutes from a working modern city.
Technically a governorate of its own, Giza is part of Greater Cairo for any traveler – most people stay in Cairo and come here for a day. The Great Pyramid is the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World still standing, and the only one you can climb inside; the GEM next door now holds the complete Tutankhamun collection.

01The oldest and largest of the three, and the last of the Seven Wonders left standing. Built around 2560 BC, it held the record as the tallest structure on earth for nearly four thousand years. The interior passage to the King's Chamber is a separate ticket worth taking.

Start in Cairo with an Egyptologist at the Giza Plateau, the Great Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum. Fly to Luxor for a full day on both banks of the Nile: the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon in the morning, then Karnak and Luxor Temple. After a night in Luxor, transfer to Esna and board your dahabiya, a traditional two-masted sailing boat that carries a small group of guests. Over four nights you visit the temples of Esna, Edfu and Kom Ombo, with full board on board, before disembarking in Aswan for Philae Temple, the High Dam and the Unfinished Obelisk. A flight takes you back to Cairo for your last night. Dahabiyas embark on Mondays, so this tour starts on a Friday. We arrange the hotels, the dahabiya cabin, the flights and every transfer through trusted local partners.

Unlike downtown Cairo hotels, Pyramids Park gives shorter transfer times to the plateau and direct pyramid views from specific rooms. Best time to visit
Exposed desert plateau – the season and the time of day both matter.
Warm days and clear light on the stone (20–28°C). Peak season; arrive at opening to beat both the heat and the coaches.
35–40°C with little shade on the plateau. Go at 8am or save it for the cooler late afternoon; prices and crowds both ease.
First light and last light are best for photographs and comfort. Midday is harsh and busy – the museum is the place to be then.
Camel and horse rides are optional and heavily touted. We arrange a fair, calm one if you want it – and run interference if you don't.
