Day by day
Detailed itinerary
3 Days / 2 Nights · Aswan · Cairo · Alexandria
- 1
On arrival at Cairo International Airport (CAI) you will be met and assisted through immigration and baggage claim, then taken to your hotel in central Cairo; the drive is approximately 20 km, typically 40–60 minutes depending on traffic.
Arrival transfers are private, not group buses, and one of our Egyptologists can join an evening welcome briefing at the hotel at 19:00 if your flight timing allows. This day is deliberately light to recover from travel and prepare for the itinerary ahead.
- 2
You travel by road from Cairo to Alexandria, a 220 km drive taking about 2.5 to 3 hours each way. Morning visits include the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, where modern architecture houses manuscripts and exhibitions, and the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, a Roman-era funerary complex.
After lunch at a local restaurant you see Pompey's Pillar and the 15th-century Qaitbay Citadel on the Mediterranean coast. Your Egyptologist guide provides historical context throughout, and we time the departure to avoid peak outbound traffic, returning to Cairo in the early evening.
- 3
Morning departure from your Cairo hotel to Cairo International Airport (CAI). Your driver meets you in the hotel lobby at the agreed pickup time, typically 3 hours before international flight departure. We arrange the private transfer in an air-conditioned sedan or minivan; travel time is usually 45–60 minutes from central Cairo to CAI depending on traffic.
Your Egyptologist is available by phone for last-minute questions. We arrange private transfers rather than fixed-schedule shuttle buses so timings match your flight rather than a group timetable.
02Overview
A first look
By early morning the Aswan quayside smells of river mud and diesel as feluccas drift past the granite quays, a quiet contrast to Cairo's bustle you will meet in 24 hours. Expect a coastal day in Alexandria where sea air and limestone meet; the walk along the Corniche, the cool shade in the Kom El Shoqafa burial chambers, and the Bibliotheca's modern reading halls feel like distinct chapters of Egypt's long story.
We don't run group bus tours; our Egyptologists lead small guided visits on request, and we arrange the intercity transfer timed to your cruise disembarkation so your Egyptologist meets you on arrival.

Suited to
Is this for you?
Yes, if
- This tour is suited to travelers who have finished a Nile cruise in Aswan and want a short, organized land extension to Cairo and Alexandria. It also works well for first-time visitors, history-focused adults, and couples or small private groups who prefer transfers and sightseeing arranged in advance.
Worth knowing
How this compares
Unlike a direct transfer-only itinerary, this program adds two nights of hotel accommodation and a full-day Alexandria sightseeing excursion. Compared with a standard group bus tour, the arrangements are coordinated around cruise disembarkation and can be booked with private or small-group guiding. It also differs from a Nile cruise extension because it is a land-only itinerary with intercity transport and hotel stays rather than a sailing segment.

Children & families
Minimum age for this itinerary is 5 years when accompanied by an adult. Child fares apply for children sharing a room with two adults; single-child room supplements follow the hotel supplier rules. High chairs are provided on request at selected hotels; tell us at booking if you need one so we can confirm availability with the hotel.
Accessibility
Who can join this
This itinerary requires moderate mobility: expect uneven pavements, cobbles and short flights of steps at many historic sites such as the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa and Qaitbay Citadel. Transfers use saloon cars or minibuses; trains and domestic flights may involve stepped access and platform gaps. Wheelchair users can be assisted in vehicles and at hotels, but many archaeological areas have no ramps and some museum floors have steps. If you use a mobility scooter or require a wheelchair-accessible vehicle, tell us at booking so we can assess feasibility and arrange additional assistance. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and we will name the meet-and-assist representative on your confirmation, but please note that full independence on-site is not guaranteed at all locations because of historic terrain and security screening.
– Responsible travel
How we travel here
Transfers are provided by air-conditioned saloon cars, minibuses and scheduled domestic flights or overnight intercity trains depending on your selected option. We use Egyptian-owned transport suppliers and local Egyptologists to keep economic benefits in-region. Entrance fees are paid directly to site authorities, and local guides and drivers are contracted per-visit so fees support individual livelihoods. Where possible we book hotels that employ local staff and source food from local suppliers. We encourage guests to avoid single-use plastics, carry a refill bottle, and to leave artifacts in place. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator we can share specific supplier names on request for travelers who wish to verify community benefits.
