Day by day
Detailed itinerary
3 Days / 2 Nights · Luxor · Alexandria · Cairo
- 1
A private vehicle takes you from downtown Luxor to Luxor Airport for your flight to Cairo. At Cairo Airport a representative meets you, helps with luggage and drives you to your hotel, about an hour away. The rest of the day is free to rest, and no meals are included.
You have two nights in Cairo on purpose: the extra time is a safety window against domestic delays before your international flight.
- 2
A long day, about 12 hours including the drives, and it suits good walkers. After breakfast you are picked up at your Cairo hotel for the trip to Alexandria with your English-speaking Egyptologist guide. The entrance fees and the air-conditioned vehicle are included. You see the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, then the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the modern library. Lunch overlooks the Mediterranean.
In the afternoon you visit the Citadel of Qaitbay and walk through Montaza Palace Gardens, then drive back to Cairo.
- 3
Have breakfast at your hotel and check out. A private vehicle takes you to Cairo Airport, allowing about 90 minutes for the journey and for check-in, with help from a transfer representative with your luggage. This is the end of the tour.

Children & families
Children are welcome. Every child takes a seat in the vehicle, so transport and guiding are charged at the adult rate at any age. The Alexandria day is about 12 hours including the drives, which is long for small children.
Accessibility
Who can join this
Day 2 is a long day by road, with about 12 hours including the drives. The Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa involve a spiral staircase and narrow passages, and the Citadel of Qaitbay has steps and uneven stone. The vehicle is air-conditioned, but we cannot promise step-free access at every site. Tell us your needs when you book and we will tell you honestly which parts are suitable.

Asked & answered
Frequent questions
01Is the flight from Luxor to Cairo included?
This tour covers the transfers at both ends, the hotel nights and the Alexandria day. The flight itself is not listed as part of it, so we confirm with you at booking whether it is included or needs to be booked separately.02How long is the Alexandria day?
About 12 hours including the drives, so plan for an early start and a late return. It is a long day and suits good walkers.03Is the Alexandria tour private?
It is run in a private or small-group air-conditioned vehicle, with a licensed Egyptologist for the full day. We tell you which applies for your dates when you book.04Which hotel will we have?
You choose a standard when you book, from budget to luxury, and we name the hotel for your dates. The itinerary is the same at every standard.05Are the Giza Pyramids included?
No. This stay does not include the Giza Pyramids or the Grand Egyptian Museum. Ask us about adding a guided day in Cairo.06Which meals are included?
Breakfast on days 2 and 3, and lunch overlooking the Mediterranean on day 2. Nothing is included on day 1.07What is not included?
International flights, the Egypt visa, tips for guides and drivers, drinks and meals other than those stated, and anything not in the itinerary.08Will I make my international flight home?
Domestic and international tickets are separate bookings, so a delayed flight from Luxor can cost you the connection if you fly out the same day. We prefer the last nights in Cairo, as this tour has, as a safety window. If you must connect the same day, choose a late-evening or night international flight, and take travel insurance that covers missed connections.
