02Overview
A first look
This tour does the temples first and the seaside second, all in hotels and without a cruise. A flight takes you to Aswan for Philae and the High Dam, and the next day is a trip by road to Abu Simbel.
You then drive to Luxor by way of Kom Ombo and Edfu and stay four nights, with Karnak, the West Bank, Dendera and Abydos. A private transfer takes you to Hurghada, where you have three nights on the Red Sea, an introductory scuba dive day and a quad bike safari. A flight returns you to Cairo for a final day of sightseeing. You choose the standard of hotel when you book.

Day by day
Detailed itinerary
13 Days / 12 Nights · Cairo · Giza · Saqqara · Aswan · Abu Simbel · Luxor
- 1
A private representative meets you in the arrivals hall at Cairo Airport and takes you to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to rest and get your bearings before the Giza Pyramids tomorrow. Dinner is not included, so you can eat when and where you like.
- 2
A full day with your private English-speaking Egyptologist. You see the Pyramids and the Great Sphinx on the Giza Plateau (the Giza visit takes 4 to 6 hours). After lunch you go into the Grand Egyptian Museum. The guide, the entrance fees and the transport are included.
- 3
You are taken to Cairo Airport for the flight to Aswan and met by a driver on arrival. The sightseeing is arranged around the flight time. With a local Egyptologist you visit the High Dam, the Unfinished Obelisk and, by short motorboat ride, Philae Temple on Agilkia Island. The guide, the entrance fees and the transport are included.
- 4
A full day trip by road from Aswan to Abu Simbel, where Ramesses II had a great temple cut into the cliff. You walk through the Great Temple and the smaller temple beside it, then return to Aswan. The guide, the entrance fees and the transport are included.
- 5
An air-conditioned vehicle takes you from Aswan to Luxor. On the way you stop at Kom Ombo, a double temple for the crocodile god Sobek and the falcon god Horus, and at the Temple of Horus at Edfu, one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt. Your Egyptologist guides you, and the entrance fees and the transport are included. You stay in Luxor for four nights.
- 6
Your Egyptologist guides you through Karnak, the largest temple complex in Egypt, and then through Luxor Temple beside the river. Nothing else is planned, so the afternoon is yours. The guide, the entrance fees and the transport are included.
- 7
You cross to the west bank for the Valley of the Kings, with three tombs included, Hatshepsut's temple at Deir el-Bahari, the Colossi of Memnon and the temple of Ramesses III at Medinet Habu. A visit to the Valley of the Queens follows. Your private Egyptologist guide, the entrance fees and the transport are included.
- 8
A day trip from Luxor to Dendera, the temple of the goddess Hathor, and to Abydos, one of ancient Egypt's holiest sites. You have lunch at a local restaurant. Your Egyptologist guide, the entrance fees and the transport are included.
- 9
After breakfast a private air-conditioned vehicle takes you to Hurghada, a drive of about five hours. You check in at your Red Sea hotel, and the rest of the day is free to swim and relax.
- 10
You are collected from your hotel for a day on a dive boat shared with other guests. A certified instructor takes you on two guided introductory dives, with all the equipment provided, and lunch with soft drinks and water is served on board. The marine park fees are included.
- 11
The day is free until the afternoon, when you are collected for a quad bike safari out of Hurghada. A safari guide leads, and a helmet is provided. On the safari there is a short camel ride, a barbecue dinner with soft drinks and tea, and a folklore show.
- 12
A transfer takes you to Hurghada Airport for the flight to Cairo, and the day's sightseeing is arranged around it. In Cairo a private Egyptologist leads you through the Egyptian Museum at Tahrir Square, Coptic Cairo, Islamic Cairo and the Khan el-Khalili bazaar, with lunch at a local restaurant. It is a full day of about eight hours of sightseeing.
The last night is in Cairo on purpose, as a safety margin if a domestic flight is late.
- 13
After breakfast your private driver takes you to Cairo Airport for the flight home, and a representative can help you at the terminal. Your last domestic flight was on day 12, so nothing today depends on one.

Field notes
From our Egyptologists
- 01
Abu Simbel photography is easiest at opening time before the day visitors arrive.
- 02
At Karnak Temple, the light is softer near closing, and the hypostyle hall reads better in photos.
- 03
For the Valley of the Kings, arrive early and save extra time if you want a premium tomb ticket.
- 04
Hurghada’s Red Sea visibility is usually best in the morning, before surface wind increases.
- 05
Carry small cash for rest stops and toilets on the Aswan to Luxor transfer corridor.

Worth knowing
How this compares
Many operators sell Egypt's temples and the Red Sea as separate trips. This itinerary joins them with no cruise, using hotels, two domestic flights and private road transfers. Hotel standard is your choice; the sightseeing does not change.

Accessibility
Who can join this
This tour involves a lot of walking on large archaeological sites, with uneven stone, sand, steps and some narrow tomb passages. Karnak and the West Bank have long outdoor stretches with little shade. Day 9 includes a drive of about five hours. The dive day involves boarding a boat and wearing equipment, and the quad bike safari is on sand and rough ground. The vehicles are private and air-conditioned, but we cannot promise wheelchair access at every site. Tell us your needs when you book and we will tell you honestly which parts are suitable.
– Responsible travel
How we travel here
The tour uses two domestic flights, a long road transfer, a dive boat and quad bikes, and vehicle types vary, so we do not claim a carbon saving. Sightseeing is guided by local Egyptologists and the Red Sea days are run by local operators in Hurghada, so much of what you spend stays in the places you visit. We ask guests to bring a refillable water bottle, not to touch coral or marine life on the dive and to stay on the marked tracks on the safari.
Licensed Egyptologist guides

Asked & answered
Frequent questions
01Are the domestic flights included?
Yes. The flights from Cairo to Aswan on day 3 and from Hurghada to Cairo on day 12 are booked for you and are included in the price. The Luxor to Hurghada leg on day 9 is a private road transfer of about five hours. International flights are not included.02Is there a Nile cruise on this tour?
No. It is a land tour with hotels in every city. You go from Aswan to Luxor by road. Ask us if you would like to add a ship.03Do I need diving experience for the scuba day?
No. Day 10 is an introductory dive day with two guided dives led by a certified instructor, and all equipment is provided. Tell us about any medical conditions at booking so we can check that it is suitable for you.04What is the quad bike safari like?
You are collected from your hotel in the afternoon for about five hours on the safari. You ride one bike each, or share one if you prefer, with a guide and a helmet. There is a short camel ride on the safari, then a barbecue dinner and a folklore show.05Is the road from Luxor to Hurghada tiring?
It is about five hours by private air-conditioned vehicle, and the day has no other plans, so you arrive in time to settle in and enjoy the hotel.06Which hotels will we have?
You choose a standard when you book, from budget to luxury, and we confirm the hotels for your dates. The itinerary and sightseeing are identical at every standard.07Will I make my international flight?
Domestic and international tickets are separate bookings, so a delayed domestic flight can cost you the connection. That is why the tour ends with a night in Cairo after the last internal flight on day 12. If you add flights of your own and must connect the same day, choose a late-evening or night international flight, and take travel insurance that covers missed connections.08What is not included?
International flights, the Egypt visa, tips for guides and drivers, drinks and meals other than those stated, the inside of the Khufu pyramid and premium tombs such as Tutankhamun's.
