Day by day
Detailed itinerary
11 Days / 10 Nights · Cairo · Alexandria · Luxor · Hurghada
- 1
Your driver meets you in the arrivals hall at Cairo Airport and takes you to your hotel. Rest after your flight. In the evening you are collected for a Nile dinner cruise: about two hours on the river with an open buffet dinner, a live show and views of Cairo's lights. A private transfer takes you back to your hotel.
- 2
A full day with your private English-speaking Egyptologist. After your hotel pickup you spend 4 to 6 hours on the Giza Plateau, with the Pyramids and the Great Sphinx. Lunch follows, and then you visit the Grand Egyptian Museum before the transfer back to your hotel. The guide, entrance fees, transport and bottled water are included.
- 3
This is a long day: about 12 hours including the drives, so it suits good walkers. Your Egyptologist travels with you to Alexandria, the Mediterranean port. You visit the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, the modern library, the Citadel of Qaitbay and the gardens of Montaza Palace, with lunch overlooking the sea. You drive back to Cairo for your third night.
Entrance fees to the listed sites, transport and bottled water are included.
- 4
After breakfast you transfer to Cairo Airport for the domestic flight to Luxor, then to your hotel. Your licensed Egyptologist takes you to the East Bank for Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple. Entrance fees, transport between the sites and bottled water are included. We arrange the sightseeing around your flight time. Lunch and dinner are not included today.
- 5
Your Egyptologist takes you across to the West Bank: the Valley of the Kings, with three tombs included, Hatshepsut's temple and the Colossi of Memnon. Transport and entrance fees are included. The rest of the day is yours in Luxor.
- 6
A private air-conditioned car takes you from Luxor to Hurghada on the Red Sea. The drive takes about 5 hours. There is no sightseeing planned, so the rest of the day is yours to settle in at your hotel.
- 7
This is a half-day adventure of about 5 hours. You are collected from your hotel for a quad bike ride in the desert with a safari guide, a helmet and a quad each (or shared by two on request). At the camp there is a short camel ride, a barbecue dinner with soft drinks, tea and water, and a folklore show. You are driven back to your hotel afterwards.
- 8
After hotel pickup a motorboat takes you across to Orange Bay on Giftun Island. You have two guided snorkeling sessions, with snorkel equipment and life jackets provided, and use of a sunbed on the beach. A hot lunch and bottled water are included. The boat brings you back to Hurghada and you are driven to your hotel.
- 9
Nothing is planned today, so the day is yours. Swim, relax by the sea or by the hotel pool, or ask us about extra trips while you are in Hurghada. Only breakfast is included, so lunch and dinner are at your own expense.
- 10
You transfer to Hurghada Airport for the domestic flight to Cairo. From the airport you go to your hotel, then set out with your private Egyptologist for about 6 hours in old Cairo.
You see the Sultan Hassan and Al-Rifa'i mosques, the Citadel of Saladin and the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, then Coptic Cairo, including the Hanging Church and the Church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus, with a lunch break in Old Cairo. Entrance fees to the mosques and the Citadel, transport and bottled water are included. We arrange the sightseeing around your flight time.
- 11
After breakfast a private transfer takes you from your hotel to Cairo Airport for your flight home. Nothing is planned for the day, so there is no rush to the airport.

Field notes
From our Egyptologists
- 01
At Giza, early morning light is best on the east side of the Khufu pyramid.
- 02
In Alexandria, the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa are usually quieter before late morning groups arrive.
- 03
Karnak’s open courtyards are hottest after 11am, so shade breaks matter.
- 04
For Khan El Khalili, ask before taking photos inside shops and small cafes.
- 05
On the Red Sea, morning snorkeling usually offers calmer water and better visibility.

Is this for you?
Yes, if

Things to Consider
- Long days on days 2, 3, 4 and 10
- Uneven stone, steps and little shade at the major sites

Where it fits
A good first trip to Egypt for people who want history and some time by the sea. It has no overnight Nile cruise and no Abu Simbel, so ask us if those are on your list.
Worth knowing
How this compares
Many operators sell the sights and the beach as separate trips. This tour joins Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor and the Red Sea in eleven days, with both flights, the entrance fees and every transfer booked for you. Hotel standard is your choice; the sightseeing does not change.

Children & families
Children are welcome on the sightseeing days. Every child takes a seat in the vehicle, so transport, guiding and meals are charged at the adult rate at any age. Entrance tickets are free for children under 6 and full price from 6. Hotel prices depend on the child's age and the room used. The quad bike safari and the snorkeling trip may have age or ability limits, so tell us your children's ages at booking and we will confirm what they can join. Days 3, 4 and 10 are long for small children.
Accessibility
Who can join this
The sightseeing days involve a lot of walking on large archaeological sites, with uneven stone, sand, steps and some narrow tomb passages. Karnak and the Valley of the Kings have long outdoor stretches with little shade. The quad bike safari and the boat trip to Orange Bay need good mobility, and boarding the boat involves steps. The vehicles are private and air-conditioned, but we cannot promise wheelchair access at every site. Tell us what you need when you book and we will say honestly which parts suit you.
– Responsible travel
How we travel here
The itinerary uses two domestic flights, long private road transfers, a quad bike safari and a motorboat trip, and vehicle types vary, so we do not claim a carbon saving. Sightseeing is guided by local Egyptologists and arranged through local suppliers in Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor and Hurghada, so much of what you spend stays in the places you visit. On the Red Sea we ask guests not to touch or stand on coral and to bring a refillable water bottle.

Asked & answered
Frequent questions
01Are the domestic flights included?
Yes. The flights from Cairo to Luxor on day 4 and from Hurghada to Cairo on day 10 are booked for you and included, with a 23 kg bag. The drive from Luxor to Hurghada on day 6 is a private car, about 5 hours. International flights are not included.02Will I make my international flight?
Your domestic and international tickets are separate bookings, so a delayed domestic flight can cost you the connection. That is why the tour ends with a last night in Cairo after the Hurghada flight. If you change the plan to fly to Cairo and connect on the same day, choose a late-evening or night international flight, and take travel insurance that covers missed connections.03How long is the Alexandria day?
About 12 hours including the drives, so it is a long day. It suits good walkers. You visit the catacombs, the Qaitbay Citadel and Montaza Palace Gardens, with lunch overlooking the Mediterranean.04Which hotels will we have?
You choose a standard when you book, from budget to luxury, and we confirm the hotels for your dates. You spend four nights in Cairo, two in Luxor and four in Hurghada, all with breakfast. The sightseeing is the same at every standard.05Are the guide and entrance fees included?
On the sightseeing days in Cairo, Alexandria and Luxor, yes: a licensed Egyptologist, air-conditioned transport and entrance fees to the listed sites, with three tombs in the Valley of the Kings. The Hurghada trips have their own guides.06Do I need quad bike experience?
The safari comes with a guide and a helmet, and you get a quad each or can share one bike between two on request. Tell us at booking about your experience and any age or health limits so we can confirm the ride suits you.07What do I do on the free day in Hurghada?
Day 9 has nothing planned. You can swim, rest by the sea or ask us about extra trips. Meals other than breakfast are not included that day.08What is not included?
International flights, the Egypt entry visa, tips for guides and drivers, drinks and meals other than those stated, extras such as entering the Great Pyramid and premium tombs, and travel insurance.09When is the best time to go?
October to April is cooler and the most comfortable for sightseeing. Luxor can pass 40 C in summer, so days start early. The Red Sea is warm for snorkeling for much of the year.
