The short answer
7-Day Cairo & Luxor Tour with Dendera & Abydos is a 7-day, 6-night trip to Cairo and Luxor: 3 nights in Cairo and 3 in Luxor. It includes domestic flights, an Egyptologist guide, entrance fees and transfers. Prices start at $1,680 per person, two sharing (Essential, October–April).
02Overview
A first look
Most short Egypt trips give Luxor one night and hurry on. This one stays three. You land in Cairo and have the evening free, then spend a full day at the Giza Pyramids, the Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum. On day 3 you fly to Luxor. East Bank temples, the West Bank tombs and a long day trip to the temples of Dendera and Abydos each get their own day.
Then you fly back to Cairo for a half day at Saqqara and Memphis, and one more night in the city before you leave. We book both domestic flights, every transfer and your hotels, and a licensed Egyptologist guides each sightseeing day. You choose the standard of hotel when you book; the sightseeing stays the same.

Day by day
Detailed itinerary
7 Days / 6 Nights · Cairo · Giza Plateau · Grand Egyptian Museum · Luxor · Karnak Temple · Luxor Temple
- 1
Your driver meets you in the arrivals hall at Cairo Airport and takes you to your hotel, about an hour away. The rest of the day is free. Rest after your flight, or take a short walk near the hotel. Your arrival time sets the pace. The sightseeing starts tomorrow.
- 2
A full day of about eight hours with your Egyptologist, with hotel pickup and an air-conditioned vehicle; the Giza visit itself takes 4 to 6 hours. Start on the Giza Plateau with the pyramids and the Great Sphinx. Lunch is at a restaurant with a view. In the afternoon you go to the Grand Egyptian Museum. Entrance fees to the plateau and the museum are included.
Back to your hotel for a second night in Cairo.
- 3
Transfer to Cairo Airport for the flight to Luxor, about an hour in the air. The flight time is set by the airline, and your sightseeing is arranged around it. A driver takes you from Luxor Airport into town. With your Egyptologist you visit Karnak and Luxor Temple on the East Bank. The guide, the entrance fees and the transport are all included.
Then to your hotel for the first of three nights in Luxor.
- 4
A day of about six hours on the West Bank with your Egyptologist and an air-conditioned vehicle. You enter three tombs in the Valley of the Kings, visit the mortuary temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari and stop at the Colossi of Memnon. Tickets for the three tombs are included. The rest of the day is yours in Luxor.
- 5
A full day trip from Luxor to two temples that most short tours leave out. With your Egyptologist you visit Dendera, the temple of Hathor, and Abydos, the great cult center of Osiris. Hotel pickup, the guide, all entrance fees, lunch at a local restaurant, a bottle of water and an air-conditioned vehicle are included. It is a long day on the road, so wear comfortable shoes.
- 6
After breakfast you transfer to Luxor Airport for the flight back to Cairo, about an hour. The flight time is set by the airline, and the rest of the day is arranged around it. A driver takes you from the airport to your Cairo hotel. Your private Egyptologist then takes you out for a half day of about five hours at Saqqara and Memphis.
This last night in Cairo is deliberate: it gives you a safety window if the domestic flight runs late.
- 7
After breakfast, check out. A private driver takes you to Cairo Airport, with about 90 minutes allowed for the transfer, for your flight home. There is no sightseeing planned today, so you can book any departure time.

Field notes
From our Egyptologists
- 01
See the Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum on separate parts of the day, so neither feels rushed.
- 02
At Abydos, ask your guide to point out the King List in the Temple of Seti I, a rare record of Egypt's pharaohs.
- 03
Take a day bag with sun cream and water for Luxor's West Bank, as the valleys are exposed and dry.
- 04
Use the final Cairo afternoon for Saqqara and Memphis at an easy pace, since the sites are spread out in open desert.

- The Giza Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum in one guided day

Things to Consider
- Early starts on flight days and a full day on the road to Dendera and Abydos
- Uneven stone, steps and little shade at the major sites
- No Nile cruise or Abu Simbel
Where it fits
A good first trip to Egypt for people who care more about temples and tombs than a cruise. Abu Simbel and a Nile cruise are not included, so add them if they are on your list.
Worth knowing
How this compares
Shorter Cairo and Luxor tours give Luxor one or two nights. This one gives it three and adds a full day at Dendera and Abydos. Hotel standard is your choice; the sightseeing does not change.

Accessibility
Who can join this
This tour involves a lot of walking on large archaeological sites, with uneven stone, sand, steps and some narrow tomb passages. The Valley of the Kings, Karnak and the temples at Dendera and Abydos have long outdoor stretches with little shade. The vehicles are private and air-conditioned, but we cannot promise wheelchair access at every site. Tell us your needs when you book and we will tell you honestly which parts are suitable.
– Responsible travel
How we travel here
The itinerary uses two domestic flights and private road transfers, and vehicle types can vary, so we do not claim a carbon saving. Sightseeing is guided by local Egyptologists and arranged through local suppliers in Cairo and Luxor, so most of the money you spend stays in the places you visit. We ask guests to carry a refillable water bottle and not to touch painted walls in tombs and temples.

Asked & answered
Frequent questions
01Are the domestic flights included?
Yes. The flights from Cairo to Luxor on day 3 and from Luxor to Cairo on day 6 are booked for you and included, with 23 kg of luggage. International flights are not.02Will I make my international flight?
Your domestic and international tickets are separate bookings, so a delayed domestic flight could cost you the connection. That is why this tour ends with a night in Cairo before you leave. Please do not book a departure on day 6. If you must fly to Cairo and connect on the same day, choose a late-evening or night international flight, and take travel insurance that covers missed connections.03Which hotels will we have?
You choose a standard when you book, from budget to luxury, and we name the hotels for your dates. You spend two nights in Cairo, three in Luxor and one more in Cairo. The itinerary and sightseeing are the same at every standard.04What are Dendera and Abydos?
Dendera is the temple of the goddess Hathor, with a famous painted ceiling. Abydos is the cult center of Osiris, with the Temple of Seti I. Both are a long drive from Luxor, so day 5 is a full day trip.05How long are the sightseeing days?
Day 2 is about eight hours including lunch and the museum, with 4 to 6 hours at Giza itself. The West Bank day is about six hours. The Dendera and Abydos day is a full day on the road. The Saqqara and Memphis half day is about five hours.06Is Abu Simbel or a Nile cruise included?
No. This tour is hotel-based and does not include Abu Simbel or a Nile cruise. Ask us if you want either added.07What is not included?
International flights, the Egypt visa, tips for guides and drivers, drinks other than the water stated, meals other than those listed, the Khufu pyramid interior and premium tombs outside the three included in the Valley of the Kings.08Is this tour private?
Yes. Your Egyptologist and driver are private on the sightseeing days, and the airport and hotel transfers are private.09When is the best time to go?
October to April is cooler and the most comfortable for walking around temples. Summers are hot, especially in Luxor, so sightseeing starts early.
