The short answer
7-Day Cairo, Luxor & Alexandria Tour is a 7-day, 6-night trip to Cairo, Alexandria and Luxor: 3 nights in Cairo and 3 in Luxor. It includes domestic flights, an Egyptologist guide, entrance fees and transfers. Prices start at $1,854 per person, two sharing (Essential, October–April).
02Overview
A first look
A week is enough for the big sights, if the plan is a good one. You arrive in Cairo on day 1 and take a Nile dinner cruise. Day 2 is the Giza Pyramids, the Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum, and in the evening you fly to Luxor. Days 3 and 4 are Luxor: Karnak and Luxor Temple on the East Bank, then the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut's temple and the Colossi of Memnon on the West Bank.
On day 5 you fly back to Cairo for a day among its old treasures: museum, Coptic Cairo, Islamic Cairo and the Khan El Khalili bazaar. Day 6 is a long day trip to Alexandria on the Mediterranean. Your last night is in Cairo, so a late domestic flight cannot cost you your trip home. We book both flights, every transfer and your hotels. You pick the standard of hotel when you book, and the sightseeing stays the same.

Day by day
Detailed itinerary
7 Days / 6 Nights · Cairo · Giza · Saqqara · Luxor · Alexandria
- 1
Landing in Cairo, you will find a driver waiting at arrivals. He drives you to your hotel, and you have time to unpack and put your feet up. As the evening comes, we collect you for a two-hour Nile dinner cruise with an open buffet, a live show and the lit-up skyline sliding by.
- 2
Your English-speaking Egyptologist, the entrance fees and an air-conditioned vehicle are all part of today. Giza comes first: Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, plus the Sphinx, which usually takes four to six hours. Lunch is next, and the Grand Egyptian Museum after it. You finish at Cairo Airport for the flight south, and a driver brings you to your Luxor hotel.
The timing around the flight follows the airline's schedule.
- 3
Luxor's east bank holds the day. With your English-speaking Egyptologist you walk through Karnak, then ride to Luxor Temple. The vehicle between the two and every entrance fee are included. After the visits your time is your own, and breakfast at the hotel starts the morning.
- 4
Cross to the west bank with your English-speaking Egyptologist and a vehicle that stays with you all day. Your Valley of the Kings ticket covers three tombs. After that you see Hatshepsut's mortuary temple and the two Colossi of Memnon. Entrance fees are included, and the evening brings you back to the same Luxor hotel.
- 5
A transfer takes you to Luxor Airport, and you fly to Cairo, where a driver delivers you to your hotel. Your guide then runs a full day of old Cairo, planned around the airline's flight time. The route covers the Egyptian Museum on Tahrir Square, Coptic Cairo, a local lunch, Islamic Cairo and the busy Khan El Khalili bazaar. Entrance fees to the listed sites and the vehicle are included.
- 6
Alexandria is a long day, about 12 hours with the drives, and it suits people who enjoy walking. A private air-conditioned vehicle and your English-speaking Egyptologist take you out of Cairo. Stops include the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, a lunch above the Mediterranean, the Citadel of Qaitbay and the Montaza Palace gardens.
Entrance fees to the listed sites are included. You sleep in Cairo again.
- 7
Breakfast is at the hotel, then you check out. A private driver and a transfer representative bring you to Cairo Airport for your flight home. We placed the last night in Cairo on purpose. It gives you a buffer if a domestic flight runs late.

Visit the Giza Plateau early, before the strongest midday heat and coach arrivals.

At Karnak Temple, the first court is quieter just after opening.

For the Valley of the Kings, carry small cash for the site trolley if offered locally.
- 04
Alexandria's waterfront at Qaitbay Citadel photographs best in late afternoon light.
- 05
Khan El Khalili is easier to browse after the lunch rush, when alleys are less crowded.

Worth knowing
How this compares
Many operators sell Cairo, Luxor and Alexandria as separate trips. This itinerary joins them in one week, with both flights and every transfer booked for you. Hotel standard is your choice; the sightseeing does not change.

Accessibility
Who can join this
This tour involves a lot of walking on large archaeological sites, with uneven stone, sand, steps and some narrow tomb passages. The Valley of the Kings and Karnak have long outdoor stretches with little shade. The Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa involve a spiral stair, and the Citadel in Cairo and Alexandria add more steps. The Alexandria day is very long, with hours in the vehicle. The vehicles are private and air-conditioned, but we cannot promise wheelchair access at every site. Tell us your needs when you book and we will tell you honestly which parts are suitable.
– Responsible travel
How we travel here
The itinerary uses two domestic flights and private road transfers, including a long day trip to Alexandria, and vehicle types can vary, so we do not claim a carbon saving. Sightseeing is guided by local Egyptologists and arranged through local suppliers in Cairo, Luxor and Alexandria, so most of the money you spend stays in the places you visit. We ask guests to take refillable water bottles and not to touch painted walls in tombs.

Asked & answered
Frequent questions
01Are the domestic flights included?
Yes. The flights from Cairo to Luxor on day 2 and from Luxor to Cairo on day 5 are booked for you and included in the price. International flights are not.02Will I make my international flight?
Domestic and international tickets are separate bookings, so a delayed domestic flight can cost you the connection. That is why this tour ends with two nights in Cairo after the Luxor flight. If you change the plan to fly to Cairo and connect on the same day, choose a late-evening or night international flight, and take travel insurance that covers missed connections.03How long is the Alexandria day?
About 12 hours including the drives, so it is a long day. It suits good walkers. You visit the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the Citadel of Qaitbay and the gardens of Montaza Palace, with lunch overlooking the Mediterranean.04How long do we spend at Giza?
The Giza visit takes four to six hours. On day 2 the Grand Egyptian Museum and the flight to Luxor follow, so the day is a full one.05Which hotels will we have?
You choose a standard when you book, from budget to luxury, and we name the hotels for your dates. The itinerary and sightseeing are the same at every standard. All hotels are on bed and breakfast.06Is there a Nile cruise or Abu Simbel?
No. This tour uses hotels only and does not include a Nile cruise or Abu Simbel. Ask us about a longer tour if you want either.07Are the guide, entrance fees and transport included?
Yes. On every sightseeing day an English-speaking Egyptologist guide, the entrance fees to the listed sites and the transport are included.08What is not included?
International flights, the Egypt visa, tips for guides and drivers, drinks and meals other than those stated, the Khufu pyramid interior and premium tombs such as Tutankhamun's.09Is this tour private?
Yes. Your Egyptologist and driver are private for the sightseeing days and transfers.10When is the best time to go?
October to April is cooler and the most comfortable for walking around temples. Summers are very hot, especially in Luxor, so sightseeing starts early.
