02Overview
A first look
Two weeks lets Egypt unfold in stages. You land in Cairo and have the evening to settle in, then spend a day at the Giza Pyramids, the Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum. A short flight takes you to Hurghada on the Red Sea, where you get a free day, an introductory scuba dive and a quad bike safari with a Bedouin dinner.
From Hurghada you drive to Luxor and join your Nile cruise ship for four nights. Along the way you see Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, the Valley of the Queens, Edfu and Kom Ombo, and you end day 8 with a sunset felucca ride in Aswan. Day 9 is Philae, the High Dam and the Unfinished Obelisk, and then you fly back to Cairo. Cairo fills the last four nights: Islamic and Coptic Cairo, the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, a walk through Al-Muizz Street and a long day in Alexandria. You choose your hotel and ship standard when you book. The sightseeing stays the same.

Day by day
Detailed itinerary
14 Days / 13 Nights · Cairo · Giza · Saqqara · Hurghada · Luxor · Edfu
- 1
Your driver meets you in the arrivals hall at Cairo Airport, with meet-and-assist, and takes you to your hotel. Nothing else is planned, so the evening is yours to settle in, rest after the journey and get ready for the Pyramids the next day. Meals are not included today. Send us your flight details before you travel so the driver is waiting when you land.
- 2
A full day with your licensed English-speaking Egyptologist. The Giza visit takes 4 to 6 hours: the Pyramids and the Great Sphinx, then lunch, then the Grand Egyptian Museum. Entrance fees, the guide and the vehicle are included. After the tour you transfer to Cairo Airport for the one-hour flight to Hurghada on the Red Sea, and a driver takes you to your hotel.
The sightseeing is arranged around the flight, and the airline sets the flight time.
- 3
Today is a free day. Nothing is planned, so you can sleep in, swim and rest by the Red Sea after a busy day at Giza and a flight. Breakfast is at your hotel. If you would like to add something, ask us before you travel and we will tell you what is possible.
- 4
You are collected from your hotel for a day of about eight hours on a dive boat shared with other guests. A certified instructor takes you on two guided introductory dives, and all scuba equipment is provided. Lunch with soft drinks and water is served on board, and marine park fees are included.
- 5
A five-hour quad bike safari from your hotel. You ride a quad bike, one per rider, or share one if you prefer, with a safari guide and a helmet. There is a short camel ride, a barbecue dinner with soft drinks, tea and water, and a folklore show. You return to your hotel afterwards.
- 6
A private transfer takes you from Hurghada to Luxor, about five hours by road. Your cruise sightseeing begins with Karnak, including the Sacred Lake, and Luxor Temple. An English-speaking Egyptologist guide, the entrance fees and the transport are included. You then join your cruise ship, settle into your cabin and have dinner on board. This is the first of four nights on the ship, on full board.
It is a full day, and the visits are arranged around the drive.
- 7
Today you cross to the West Bank with your Egyptologist guide. You see the Colossi of Memnon, the Valley of the Kings, with three tombs included, and the mortuary temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari.
The day also includes a half-day tour of the Valley of the Queens, with a private vehicle and driver collecting you from your Nile cruise ship, a private licensed Egyptologist guide and the entrance ticket. It is a full day, and we arrange the order around the ship. Entrance fees and transport are included, and all meals are on board.
- 8
The ship continues south towards Aswan. With your Egyptologist guide you go ashore at the Temple of Edfu, one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt, and at the Temple of Kom Ombo, which stands right on the riverbank. The day ends in Aswan with a sunset felucca ride of about three hours.
You are taken from the ship's pier to the boat and sail around Elephantine Island and Kitchener's Island, with its botanical gardens, past the Aga Khan views, and watch the sun set over the cataract before the transfer back. Entrance fees and transport are included, and it is a full day.
- 9
Your last full day on the Nile is in Aswan, with your Egyptologist guide, the entrance fees and the transport included. You visit Philae Temple on its island, the High Dam and the Unfinished Obelisk in the old granite quarries. It is a lighter day than the ones before it, with time back on board. The order and timing are set around the ship and your flight to Cairo the next day.
Your last night is on the ship, with all meals on board.
- 10
After breakfast you leave the ship and a private transfer takes you to Aswan Airport for the one-hour flight to Cairo. A driver meets you in Cairo and takes you to your hotel. The airline sets the flight time. The rest of the day is yours to rest.
- 11
A full day of two guided visits with a private English-speaking Egyptologist. The first, about six hours, covers Islamic and Coptic Cairo: the Sultan Hassan and Al-Rifa'i mosques, the Citadel of Saladin and the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, then the Hanging Church and the Church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus in Old Cairo, with a lunch break.
The second, about four hours, is the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, including the Royal Mummies Hall. Entrance fees and the vehicle are included.
- 12
A lighter day. After a late breakfast you join a guided walking tour of Islamic Cairo of 3 to 4 hours with a licensed Egyptologist, along Al-Muizz Street and into the Khan el-Khalili bazaar. A private air-conditioned vehicle collects you and brings you back to your hotel. The rest of the day is free.
- 13
A long day trip from Cairo to Alexandria: about 12 hours including the drives, with a licensed Egyptologist. It suits good walkers. You visit the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, then have lunch overlooking the Mediterranean. After lunch come the Citadel of Qaitbay and the gardens of Montaza Palace, before the drive back to Cairo.
Entrance fees to the listed sites and the vehicle are included.
- 14
Your final morning starts with breakfast at the hotel, then check-out. The driver loads your bags and takes you to Cairo Airport for the flight home. Please share your flight time ahead of travel, because the pickup is timed from it, and keep around two hours for the transfer and airport check-in.

Field notes
From our Egyptologists
- 01
Start Giza before midmorning, the plateau gets hotter and busier after 9am.
- 02
At Abu Simbel, morning light is better for the facade and reduces heat stress.
- 03
Bring small cash for tips, bottled water, and toilet access at some roadside stops.
- 04
Khan El Khalili is calmer early in the day, before group traffic builds.
- 05
Mosque visits in Cairo require shoulders and knees covered; carry a light scarf.

Worth knowing
How this compares
Many operators sell a Nile trip and a Red Sea stay as separate bookings. This itinerary joins Cairo, Hurghada, the Nile and Alexandria in two weeks, with both flights and every transfer booked for you. Hotel and ship standard is your choice; the sightseeing does not change.

Children & families
Children are welcome on the sightseeing and cruise parts of this tour. Every child takes a seat in the vehicle, so transport and guiding are charged at the adult rate at any age. Cabin and hotel prices depend on the child's age and the room or cabin used, so we give you the exact figure when you tell us the age at booking. The scuba dive and the quad bike safari are run by specialist operators with their own rules, so ask us about your children before you book.
Accessibility
Who can join this
This tour involves a lot of walking on large archaeological sites, with uneven stone, sand, steps and some narrow tomb passages. Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, and the Valley of the Queens have long outdoor stretches with little shade. The scuba dive is done from a boat and the quad bike safari is on rough ground. Boarding the ship, the boat to Philae and the felucca involves steps or a gangway. Vehicles are private and air-conditioned, but we cannot promise wheelchair access at every site. Tell us your needs when you book and we will tell you honestly which parts are suitable.
– Responsible travel
How we travel here
The itinerary uses two domestic flights, long road transfers, a Nile cruise ship, a dive boat, quad bikes and a sailing felucca, and vehicle types vary, so we do not claim a carbon saving. Sightseeing is guided by local Egyptologists and arranged through local suppliers in Cairo, Hurghada, Luxor, Aswan and Alexandria, so most of the money you spend stays in the places you visit. We ask guests to bring refillable water bottles, to stay on marked routes on the quad bike safari and not to touch painted walls in tombs.

Asked & answered
Frequent questions
01Are the domestic flights included?
Yes. The flights from Cairo to Hurghada on day 2 and from Aswan to Cairo on day 10 are booked for you and included. International flights are not. Hurghada to Luxor on day 6 is a private road transfer of about five hours. Flight times are set by the airline schedule.02Are the guide and entrance fees included?
Yes. An English-speaking Egyptologist guide, the entrance fees and the transport are included on the Cairo, Alexandria and Nile cruise sightseeing days, and the Valley of the Queens tour has a private Egyptologist guide. The scuba dive uses a certified instructor and the quad safari a safari guide.03How many nights are on the Nile cruise?
Four nights on board, on full board: breakfast, lunch and dinner each day. The other nights are in hotels: one in Cairo, four in Hurghada and four more in Cairo, with breakfast.04Which hotels and cruise ship will we have?
You choose a standard when you book, from budget to luxury, and we name the hotels and the ship for your dates. The itinerary and sightseeing are the same at every standard.05What is the Valley of the Queens tour?
On day 7 it is a half-day tour on the West Bank, in a private vehicle with a driver who collects you from your cruise ship, with a private licensed Egyptologist guide and the entrance ticket. It sits on the same day as the Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut's temple, so the day is a full one.06What happens on the sunset felucca ride?
On day 8, after Edfu and Kom Ombo, you are taken from the pier to a felucca for about three hours on the Nile at Aswan. You sail around Elephantine Island and Kitchener's Island, see the Aga Khan views and watch the sun set over the cataract. The transfer to the dock and back and the entrance fees are included. Bring a light layer, as it cools on the water.07Do I need diving experience for day 4?
No. The day is made up of two guided introductory dives with a certified instructor, with all equipment provided. Tell us about any health conditions and the ages of anyone traveling with you, and we will check with the operator.08What do we see on the last day in Aswan?
Day 9 covers Philae Temple, reached by boat to its island, the High Dam and the Unfinished Obelisk in the old granite quarries. Your Egyptologist guide, the entrance fees and the transport are included. It is lighter than the days before it, and you spend the last night on the ship. The next day you fly to Cairo.09Will I make my international flight?
Domestic and international tickets are separate bookings, so a delayed domestic flight can cost you the connection. Your last domestic flight, Aswan to Cairo, is on day 10, and you then spend four nights in Cairo. That is a deliberate safety window, and we prefer you to keep a last night in Cairo. Choose an international flight home on day 14, and take travel insurance that covers missed connections. If you must connect on the same day as a domestic flight, pick a late-evening or night departure.10What is not included?
International flights, the Egypt visa, tips for guides, drivers and ship staff, drinks and meals other than those stated, travel insurance and personal expenses.
