02Overview
A first look
Some people want Egypt's temples without the pace of a big circuit. This vacation keeps it simple. You land in Luxor and stay there four nights, with Karnak and Luxor Temple, the Valley of the Kings and a day trip to Dendara and Abydos. There is no Cairo and no domestic flight.
On day 5 a private car takes you across the desert to Hurghada, about five hours. You spend five nights on the Red Sea, with a snorkeling day at Orange Bay, a free day, a semi-submarine trip and a quad bike evening with a Bedouin dinner. You fly home from Hurghada. We book your hotels, every transfer and every excursion. You choose the hotel standard when you book.

Day by day
Detailed itinerary
10 Days / 9 Nights · Luxor · Karnak Temple · Luxor Temple · Valley of the Kings · Hatshepsut Temple · Colossi of Memnon
- 1
Your driver meets you at Luxor Airport and takes you to your hotel in Luxor. The rest of the day is yours to rest after the journey and get a first look at the town and the Nile. No meals are planned today.
- 2
A guided day on the East Bank with a licensed Egyptologist. You visit Karnak, the largest temple complex in Egypt, and Luxor Temple, which stands close to the river. Entrance fees and the air-conditioned transport between the two sites are included.
- 3
Cross to the West Bank for a half-day tour of about six hours with your Egyptologist. You enter three tombs in the Valley of the Kings, then see Hatshepsut's temple and the Colossi of Memnon. Transport from your hotel and back is included, and so are the tomb tickets.
- 4
A full day trip from Luxor to two temples with your Egyptologist: Dendara and Abydos. Entrance fees to both are included, along with the air-conditioned vehicle between the sites. Lunch is at a local restaurant. You return to your hotel in Luxor for a fourth night.
- 5
After breakfast a private air-conditioned vehicle takes you from Luxor to Hurghada on the Red Sea. The drive takes about five hours. There is no sightseeing planned, so you arrive with the afternoon free to settle in at your hotel.
- 6
You are collected from your hotel for a boat crossing to Orange Bay on Giftun Island. There are two guided snorkeling sessions, with snorkel gear and life jackets provided, and time on the beach with a sunbed. A hot lunch and bottled water are included. The boat brings you back to Hurghada.
- 7
Nothing is planned today. Swim, rest by the pool or the beach, or ask us about an optional trip. It is a good day to keep unhurried before the last two excursions.
- 8
A short outing of about three hours. You are collected from your hotel for a two-hour semi-submarine trip, shared with other guests, to view the reef through the windows. There is also a swim stop with mask and snorkel, and a soft drink and water on board.
- 9
A five-hour evening excursion into the desert behind Hurghada. You ride a quad bike, one per rider, or share one on request, with a safari guide and a helmet. At the camp there is a short camel ride, then a barbecue dinner with soft drinks, tea and water, and a folklore show. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included.
- 10
After breakfast you check out and a driver takes you to Hurghada Airport, about one hour away, for your flight home. Please give us your flight time so we can set the pickup. Your tour ends at the airport.

Field notes
From our Egyptologists
- 01
Start the Karnak visit early and walk the Hypostyle Hall before the tour groups arrive; the light between the columns is best in the morning.
- 02
In the Valley of the Kings you can only photograph outside the tombs, so keep your camera in your bag and enjoy the carvings instead.
- 03
At Dendera, ask your guide to point out the Hathor-headed columns and the ceiling zodiac, then climb to the roof for the views.
- 04
Pack a rash vest or sun shirt for Giftun Island, since the Red Sea sun is strong even on cloudy-looking days.

Suited to
Is this for you?
Yes, if
- Travelers who want Egypt's temples and a beach in the same trip, without Cairo or domestic flights. Suited to couples, friends and families comfortable with a long day on the road and some snorkeling.
Maybe not, if
- Anyone who needs step-free access to every site, or who wants Cairo and the pyramids. The Luxor days involve a lot of walking on uneven stone.
Honest assessment
Real trade-offs from our experience managing this tour.
Highlights
- Luxor's main temples and tombs with an Egyptologist, then five relaxed nights on the Red Sea
- One hotel change and no domestic flight
- Two sea excursions and a free day, so the second half is not rushed
Things to Consider
- No Cairo and no Giza Pyramids
- A five-hour drive on day 5
- International flights are not included, and you fly into Luxor and out of Hurghada
Where it fits
A good fit if temples and a beach are both on your list and Cairo is not. The pyramids are not included, so add them if they matter to you.
Worth knowing
How this compares
Most Egypt itineraries start in Cairo and rely on domestic flights. This one skips both. It joins Luxor and Hurghada by private road transfer, so there is one hotel change and no airport queues between the two.

Accessibility
Who can join this
The Luxor days involve a lot of walking on large temple sites, with uneven stone, steps and some narrow tomb passages, and little shade at the Valley of the Kings and Karnak. The Red Sea excursions involve boarding boats and, on the quad day, riding over rough desert ground. The vehicles are private and air-conditioned, but we cannot promise wheelchair access at every site or on every boat. Tell us your needs when you book and we will say honestly which parts suit you.
– Responsible travel
How we travel here
The itinerary uses no domestic flights: the Luxor to Hurghada leg is a private road transfer, though the vehicle type can vary, so we make no carbon claim. Sightseeing is guided by local Egyptologists and arranged through local suppliers in Luxor and Hurghada, so much of what you spend stays there. Please do not touch or stand on coral while snorkeling, take a refillable water bottle, and keep your hands off the painted walls in tombs.

Asked & answered
Frequent questions
01Will I make my international flight?
Your international tickets are booked separately from this tour, so we cannot protect a connection. This tour has no domestic flights, and on day 10 you leave from Hurghada Airport about an hour from the hotel. If you connect onward the same day, choose a flight that leaves in the afternoon or evening and not early in the morning. Take travel insurance that covers missed connections.02Are international flights included?
No. International flights to Luxor and home from Hurghada are not included. You arrive at Luxor Airport on day 1 and leave from Hurghada Airport on day 10, so book an open-jaw ticket or two one-way flights.03Is there a domestic flight between Luxor and Hurghada?
No. The move on day 5 is a private, air-conditioned road transfer of about five hours. It is a full morning in the car, so we keep that afternoon free.04Which hotels will we have?
You choose a standard when you book, from budget to luxury, and we name the hotels for your dates. You have four nights in Luxor and five in Hurghada. The itinerary is the same at every standard.05Is the snorkeling suitable for non-swimmers?
Life jackets are provided for the Orange Bay sessions, but you should be comfortable in the water. The semi-submarine trip on day 8 lets you see the reef without swimming, and it has an optional swim stop.06How hard are the quad bikes?
The safari is guided and runs over desert tracks for about five hours including the camp. A helmet and a guide are included, and you can share a bike if you prefer. Tell us if anyone has back or neck problems.07Is the Giza Pyramids visit included?
No. This vacation has no Cairo stop. If the pyramids are on your list, ask us about a longer tour that adds them.08What is not included?
International flights, the Egypt visa, tips for guides and drivers, drinks and meals other than those stated, travel insurance and personal expenses.09When is the best time to go?
October to April is the most comfortable for temple walking, and the sea is still pleasant for a boat day. Summer is very hot in Luxor, so sightseeing starts early, while Hurghada is busy with beach visitors.
