The short answer

10-Day Family Egypt Tour: Nile Cruise & Hurghada is a 10-day, 9-night trip to Cairo, Luxor, Aswan and Hurghada: 3 nights in Cairo, 3 on a Nile cruise and 3 in Hurghada. Starts on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays or Sundays. It includes domestic flights, an Egyptologist guide, entrance fees and transfers. Prices start at $2,381 per person, two sharing (Comfort, October–April).

02Overview

A first look

This tour is built for families who want the big sights without a ten-day march. Cairo comes first: a sunset felucca ride, the Giza Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum, then the Citadel and Khan el-Khalili bazaar, with a short camel ride on the Giza Plateau for the kids.

A flight takes you south to Aswan, where you join your Nile cruise ship. For three nights you sail north to Luxor, with Philae, Kom Ombo, Edfu, Karnak and the Valley of the Kings along the way. Children tend to love life on the ship.

The last stretch is a private road transfer to Hurghada, about five hours. Then you have three nights by the Red Sea, with a snorkeling boat trip to Dolphin House and a semi-submarine ride over the reef. We book the domestic flight, every transfer, your hotels and your cruise cabin. You choose the standard of hotel and ship, from budget to luxury, and we name them for your dates.

Field notes

From our Egyptologists

  1. 01

Book the felucca on your first evening as the gentle sail on the Nile helps children shake off jet lag.

  2. 02

Let kids pick one animal moment on the Giza Plateau, the camel ride, and keep the rest of that day relaxed.

  3. 03

Bring a small torch or phone light for the tombs in the Valley of the Kings, where children enjoy spotting the painted details.

  4. 04

Pack water shoes for the Dolphin House boat trip, as getting in and out of the sea from the boat is easier with grip.

Tailor it

Make it yours

Choose your hotel and ship standard when you book. Ask us about adding Abu Simbel, extra nights in Luxor or Cairo, or a last night in Cairo before a flight home.

All requests handled by your dedicated specialist before booking.

Suited to

Is this for you?

Yes, if

  • Families who want a first look at Egypt with variety: Cairo, a Nile cruise and the Red Sea. Suited to school-age children and parents who are comfortable with one flight and several hours of walking on sightseeing days.

Maybe not, if

  • Travelers who need step-free access to every site, or families with toddlers who would struggle with the flight on day 4 and the five-hour drive on day 7.

Honest assessment

Real trade-offs from our experience managing this tour.

Highlights

  • Pyramids, the Grand Egyptian Museum, the main Nile temples and the Red Sea in ten days
  • A camel ride, a felucca and two boat days keep children interested
  • Three nights on a ship, so no repacking between Aswan and Luxor

Things to Consider

  • Day 4 has a flight and day 7 has a five-hour drive from Luxor to Hurghada
  • Uneven stone, steps and little shade at the major sites
  • Abu Simbel is not included

Where it fits

A good fit for a family trip that mixes history with fun, and for a first visit to Egypt. Abu Simbel is not included, so add it if it is on your list.

Worth knowing

How this compares

Many family itineraries are all temples or all beach. This one joins Cairo, a Nile cruise and Hurghada in ten days, with the flight and every transfer booked for you. Hotel and ship standard is your choice; the sightseeing does not change.

Children & families

Every child takes a seat in the vehicle, so transport, guiding and meals are charged at the adult rate at any age. Entrance tickets are free for children under 6 and full price from 6. Cabin and hotel prices depend on the child's age and the room or cabin used, so we give you the exact figure when you tell us the age at booking. The boats in Hurghada are shared with other guests and have their own rules for young swimmers, so tell us the ages when you book.

Accessibility

Who can join this

This tour involves walking on large archaeological sites, with uneven stone, sand, steps and some narrow tomb passages. Karnak and the Valley of the Kings have long outdoor stretches with little shade. Boarding the Nile cruise ship, the felucca and the Hurghada boats involves steps and a gangway or ramp. The vehicles are private and air-conditioned, but we cannot promise wheelchair access at every site or on every boat. Tell us your needs when you book and we will tell you honestly which parts are suitable.

– Responsible travel

How we travel here

The itinerary uses one domestic flight, a Nile cruise ship, private road transfers and boat trips, and vehicle types vary, so we do not claim a carbon saving. Sightseeing is guided by local Egyptologists and arranged through local suppliers in Cairo, Aswan, Luxor and Hurghada, so most of the money you spend stays in the places you visit. On the reef boats, please do not touch or stand on the coral, and do not feed the fish. We ask guests to bring refillable water bottles and not to touch painted walls in tombs.

  • Licensed Egyptologist guides

State-licensed, and people we have worked with for years

  • Fair wages on the ground

Drivers + guides paid above market

  • Site preservation

We follow the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities' site rules: marked paths, no touching reliefs

  • Local teams, real help

Our own offices in Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Hurghada, Marsa Alam and Sharm El Sheikh

Asked & answered

Frequent questions

  1. 01Is the domestic flight included?
Yes. The flight from Cairo to Aswan on day 4 is booked for you and included. International flights are not.
  2. 02How many nights are on the Nile cruise?
Three nights on board, from Aswan to Luxor, on full board: breakfast, lunch and dinner each day. The other six nights are in hotels, three in Cairo and three in Hurghada, with breakfast.
  3. 03Which cruise ship and hotels will we have?
You choose a standard when you book, from budget to luxury, and we name the ship and hotels for your dates. The itinerary and sightseeing are the same at every standard.
  4. 04Is this tour good for children?
Yes, it was planned with families in mind: a felucca ride, a camel ride, life on a ship and two boat days. Days 4 and 7 are long, with a flight on day 4 and a five-hour drive on day 7, so it suits school-age children better than toddlers.
  5. 05Will we see dolphins at Dolphin House?
Maybe. The dolphins are wild and come and go, so we never promise a sighting. The snorkeling guide and the reef are the sure parts of the day.
  6. 06Is Abu Simbel included?
No. This itinerary does not include Abu Simbel. Ask us if you want to add it; it is a very early start and a long day.
  7. 07Will I make my international flight?
The tour ends at Hurghada Airport after a private transfer, so there is no domestic flight between the tour and your flight home. Leave a comfortable margin for the transfer and check-in. If your flight home leaves from Cairo, tell us. Domestic and international tickets are separate bookings, so a delayed domestic flight can cost you a connection; we prefer a last night in Cairo in that case. Take travel insurance that covers missed connections.
  8. 08What is not included?
International flights, the Egypt visa, tips for guides and drivers, drinks other than those stated, the Khufu pyramid interior and premium tombs such as Tutankhamun's.
  9. 09When is the best time to go?
October to April is cooler and the most comfortable for temples. Summers are hot, especially in Luxor and Aswan, so sightseeing starts early. The Red Sea is warm for swimming for much of the year.
