Prices start at $1,967 per person, two sharing (Essential, October–April).

02Overview

A first look

Egypt does not have to be rushed. This tour gives Cairo's two best-known sights a half day each, the Giza Pyramids and the Sphinx on one morning and the Egyptian Museum on another, so you have time to look and time to rest in between.

On day 4 you fly to Luxor and join your Nile cruise ship for four nights, sailing south to Aswan. The temples come to you along the river: Karnak and Luxor Temple, the West Bank, Edfu, Kom Ombo and Philae. We book the flights, the transfers, your hotel and your cabin. Tell us about any mobility needs when you book and we will plan around them.

Field notes

From our Egyptologists

  1. 01

Cairo's sightseeing is split into half days, so ask for an unhurried midday rest at your hotel between visits.

  2. 02

At Karnak, the avenue of sphinxes and the Sacred Lake are flat walks; save the long hall for a bench stop.

  3. 03

The Valley of the Kings tomb stairs are steep, so wear shoes with grip and pace yourself on the way back up.

  4. 04

Philae Temple is reached by a short boat ride; take a hat, as there is little shade on the island.

Tailor it

Make it yours

Choose your hotel and ship standard when you book. Ask us about extra nights in Cairo or Luxor, or about adding Abu Simbel, and tell us about any mobility needs.

All requests handled by your dedicated specialist before booking.

Suited to

Is this for you?

Yes, if

  • Senior travelers and anyone who wants the main sights of Egypt without rushing. Suited to couples and friends who like to unpack once, take guided outings and rest in between.

Maybe not, if

  • Travelers who need step-free access to every site, or who want a longer stay in Cairo before flying home.

Honest assessment

Real trade-offs from our experience managing this tour.

Highlights

  • Cairo split into two half days of about four hours each
  • Four nights on one ship, so no repacking between Luxor and Aswan
  • Flights, transfers, entrance fees and guiding handled for you

Things to Consider

  • Steps and uneven stone at the temples; step-free access is not promised
  • No Cairo hotel night after the cruise, so the flight home needs care
  • Abu Simbel is not included

Where it fits

A good fit for senior travelers who want the classic route at a gentler pace. Ask about mobility needs before you book. Abu Simbel is not included.

Worth knowing

How this compares

Many Egypt tours pack Cairo into one long day. This one gives the pyramids and the museum a half day each, then keeps you on one ship for four nights. Hotel and ship standard are your choice; the sightseeing does not change.

What to bring

  • Passport and any required travel documents
  • Comfortable walking shoes with good grip
  • Sunscreen, SPF 30 or higher
  • Sun hat and sunglasses
  • Refillable water bottle
  • Any personal medication, in your hand luggage

  • Clothing that covers shoulders and knees at mosques and temples
  • A hat and sunglasses

Children & families

Children are welcome, though this tour is planned around a gentler pace. Every child takes a seat in the vehicle, so transport, guiding and meals are charged at the adult rate at any age. Entrance tickets are free for children under 6 and full price from 6. Hotel and cabin prices depend on the child's age and the room or cabin used, so we give you the exact figure when you tell us the age at booking.

Accessibility

Who can join this

Ask us about mobility needs before you book. The Cairo visits are half days and the vehicles are private and air-conditioned. The temples and the West Bank sites have uneven ancient stone, steps and long open stretches with little shade, and boarding the ship involves a gangway. We cannot promise step-free access at every site. Tell us what you can and cannot manage and we will say honestly which parts suit you and how we can adjust.

– Responsible travel

How we travel here

The tour uses two domestic flights, a Nile cruise ship and private road transfers, and vehicle types vary, so we do not claim a carbon saving. Sightseeing is guided by local Egyptologists and arranged through local suppliers in Cairo, Luxor and Aswan, so much of what you spend stays in the places you visit. Please bring a refillable water bottle and leave painted tomb walls untouched.

  • Licensed Egyptologist guides

State-licensed, and people we have worked with for years

  • Fair wages on the ground

Drivers + guides paid above market

  • Site preservation

We follow the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities' site rules: marked paths, no touching reliefs

  • Local teams, real help

Our own offices in Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Hurghada, Marsa Alam and Sharm El Sheikh

Asked & answered

Frequent questions

  1. 01Is this Egypt tour suitable for seniors?
It is planned for an easier pace: Giza and the Egyptian Museum are half days of about four hours, and you live on the ship for four nights instead of changing hotels. There is still walking on uneven stone and steps at the temples. Ask us about mobility needs and we will say honestly what suits you.
  2. 02Is step-free access available?
We cannot promise it. The temples have steps and uneven ground, and boarding the ship uses a gangway. Tell us what you need when you book and we will talk through each site with you.
  3. 03Are the flights included?
Yes. The flight from Cairo to Luxor on day 4 and from Aswan to Cairo on day 8 are booked for you. International flights are not.
  4. 04Will I make my international flight?
Domestic and international tickets are separate bookings, so a delayed domestic flight can cost you the connection. This tour ends with the flight from Aswan to Cairo and no Cairo hotel night, so choose a late-evening or night international flight and take travel insurance that covers missed connections.
  5. 05How does the Nile cruise work?
You join the ship on day 4 and spend four nights on board, sailing from Luxor to Aswan on full board. An English-speaking Egyptologist guides each sightseeing outing, and the entrance fees and transport are included.
  6. 06Which ship and hotel will we have?
You choose a standard when you book, from budget to luxury, and we name the hotel and ship for your dates. The route and sightseeing stay the same.
  7. 07Is Abu Simbel included?
No. Abu Simbel is not part of this itinerary. Ask us and we will show you tours that include it.
  8. 08What is not included?
International flights, the Egypt visa, tips for guides, drivers and ship staff, drinks other than those stated, the Mummies Room at the Egyptian Museum and the inside of the Khufu pyramid.
