02Overview
A first look
You are already on the Red Sea. This tour takes you from your Hurghada hotel to the temples of Upper Egypt and back, all by road, with no flights. You spend one night in Luxor and two in Aswan.
On day 1 you drive to Luxor, about five hours, and see Karnak and Luxor Temple. Day 2 is the West Bank, then the road to Aswan. Day 3 is Abu Simbel, a full day that starts very early. On day 4 you visit Philae Temple and drive back to Hurghada, about seven hours. It is a full, tiring four days and it suits fit travelers. If that sounds right, you will see more in four days than most people see in a week.

Day by day
Detailed itinerary
4 Days / 3 Nights · Hurghada · Luxor · Karnak Temple · Luxor Temple · Valley of the Kings · Aswan
- 1
Your driver collects you from your Hurghada hotel for the private drive to Luxor, about five hours. Once there, your Egyptologist guide takes you to Karnak, the largest temple complex in Egypt, with its forest of columns and the Sacred Lake, and then to Luxor Temple beside the river. Transport and entrance fees are included.
The sightseeing is arranged around your arrival time, and it is a long day. You spend the night in a Luxor hotel.
- 2
After breakfast you cross to Luxor's West Bank for about six hours of sightseeing with your Egyptologist: the Valley of the Kings, with three tombs included, Hatshepsut's temple at Deir el-Bahari and the Colossi of Memnon. Air-conditioned transport and entrance fees for the three tombs are included. You then drive to Aswan, about 3.5 hours, and check in to your hotel for two nights.
- 3
This is the big day, and it is a full one. You leave Aswan very early for the drive to Abu Simbel, to see the two rock temples of Ramesses II and Queen Nefertari. Entrance fees to the Abu Simbel temples are included. You drive back to Aswan the same day, and there is nothing else planned, so you can rest in the evening. Take snacks, water and a light layer for the early start.
- 4
After breakfast you check out and go to Philae, the temple of Isis, about four hours with a local guide. You cross by boat to Agilkia Island, walk the Great Colonnade, see the inner sanctuaries and Trajan's Kiosk, and hear how the temple was moved when the High Dam was built. Transport, boat crossing and entrance fees are included.
You then start the private drive back to Hurghada, about seven hours, and reach your hotel in the evening. It is a long finish to a tiring four days.

Field notes
From our Egyptologists
- 01
Start the Hurghada-to-Luxor drive with snacks and water in hand; the desert road is long and has few services.
- 02
On the West Bank, enter the tombs in the cooler start to the day, since the air inside gets stuffy as visitor numbers rise.
- 03
Bring a power bank for the Abu Simbel day; hours on the road plus constant photos at the temple will drain your phone.
- 04
Philae sits on an island, so wear shoes with grip for the slick stone at the boat landing and keep a hand free for balance.

Highlights

- Private transport and no flights to manage

Where it fits
A good fit if you are at a Red Sea resort and want Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simbel in one go. Not a relaxed trip: expect early starts and hours on the road.
Worth knowing
How this compares
Many Hurghada excursions to Luxor are single long days. This four-day tour adds a night in Luxor, a second day on the West Bank and Abu Simbel, so the sightseeing is less rushed than a day trip, though the road days are still long.

Accessibility
Who can join this
This tour involves a lot of time in a vehicle: about five hours on day 1, about 3.5 hours on day 2, a full day on the road to Abu Simbel and back, and about seven hours on day 4. Sites mean walking on uneven stone, sand and steps, with little shade at Karnak, the Valley of the Kings and Abu Simbel. Philae is reached by boat, which involves steps and a short gangway. The vehicles are private and air-conditioned, but we cannot promise wheelchair access at every site. Tell us your needs when you book and we will say honestly which parts are suitable.

Asked & answered
Frequent questions
01Are there any flights on this tour?
No. Every transfer is a private road journey: Hurghada to Luxor on day 1, Luxor to Aswan on day 2, and Aswan back to Hurghada on day 4. Abu Simbel is also reached by road from Aswan.02How long are the drives?
About five hours from Hurghada to Luxor, about 3.5 hours from Luxor to Aswan, and about seven hours from Aswan back to Hurghada. Abu Simbel is a full day by road from Aswan. This is a tiring tour and suits fit travelers.03How early do we leave for Abu Simbel?
Very early. Day 3 is a full day for Abu Simbel and nothing else is planned, so you can rest in the evening. We confirm the exact departure time with you before you travel.04Where do we stay?
One night in a Luxor hotel and two nights in an Aswan hotel. You choose a standard when you book, from budget to luxury, and we name the hotels for your dates.05Will I make my flight home if I leave Hurghada on day 4?
The drive back from Aswan takes about seven hours and road times can vary, so do not book a flight on the evening of day 4. This tour ends at your Hurghada hotel and you rejoin your resort stay. If you leave Egypt on day 5 or later, you have a margin. International flights are separate bookings and are not included. Take travel insurance that covers missed connections.06Are the guide, entrance fees and transport included?
Transport is private and air-conditioned on every day. On day 1 and day 2 an Egyptologist guide and the entrance fees come with it, including three tombs in the Valley of the Kings. On day 3 the entrance fees to Abu Simbel are included, and on day 4 a local guide takes you round Philae, with the boat crossing and entrance fees.07What is not included?
International flights, your Hurghada hotel and resort stay, the Egypt visa, tips for guides and drivers, lunch and dinner, drinks, and tombs beyond the three in the Valley of the Kings.08When is the best time to go?
October to April is cooler and the most comfortable for walking around temples. Summers are very hot in Luxor and Aswan, so sightseeing starts early, and the long road days are harder.
