02Overview
A first look
This tour puts a Nile cruise in the middle of a bigger trip. You start in Cairo, with a day at the Giza Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum and a long day in Alexandria. A flight takes you to Aswan, where you see Philae and join your ship for three nights, sailing north to Luxor.
On the cruise you stop at Kom Ombo and Edfu, then visit Luxor Temple, Karnak, the Valley of the Kings and the Colossi of Memnon. From Luxor you travel to Hurghada for three nights on the Red Sea, with a snorkeling day on Giftun Island and a jeep safari. A flight brings you back to Cairo for your last night. You choose the standard of hotel and ship when you book, and the sightseeing stays the same.

Day by day
Detailed itinerary
11 Days / 10 Nights · Cairo · Giza · Alexandria · Aswan · Abu Simbel · Kom Ombo
- 1
Your flight lands in Cairo, where a private representative waits in the arrivals hall and drives you to your hotel. Nothing is planned after that, so use the evening to rest. Your Egyptologist guide starts with you tomorrow morning.
- 2
Your private Egyptologist collects you from the hotel for the Giza Plateau, where you stand beside the three pyramids and the Great Sphinx. Allow four to six hours for the plateau. Lunch comes with a view across it, and the afternoon is spent inside the Grand Egyptian Museum. An English-speaking guide, entrance fees and transport are all included.
- 3
This is a full day out of Cairo, about 12 hours including the drives, and it suits good walkers. In Alexandria you go down into the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, see the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, eat lunch overlooking the sea, then visit the Citadel of Qaitbay and the gardens of Montaza Palace. Your licensed Egyptologist, the entrance fees and the vehicle are included.
- 4
After breakfast you are driven to Cairo Airport for the flight to Aswan. A driver meets you there, and the day's sightseeing is arranged around your flight time. Your Egyptologist takes you to Philae Temple, the High Dam and the Unfinished Obelisk before you board and settle into your cabin. Meals on the ship are full board from now on.
The cruise sightseeing covers an English-speaking guide, entrance fees and transport.
- 5
The ship leaves Aswan and sails north today. You go ashore at the Temple of Kom Ombo, a double temple shared by the gods Sobek and Horus, and later at the Temple of Horus in Edfu. Between the two stops you relax on board, with breakfast, lunch and dinner served. Your Egyptologist guide, the entrance fees and the transport are included.
- 6
When you wake, the ship is moored in Luxor. Your Egyptologist walks you through Luxor Temple beside the river, then through Karnak, the biggest temple complex in Egypt, including the Sacred Lake. Tonight is your last night on the ship. Guide, entrance fees and transport are included.
- 7
Once breakfast is done, you leave the ship and cross to the West Bank. The Valley of the Kings comes first, with three tombs included, followed by Hatshepsut's temple at Deir el-Bahari and the Colossi of Memnon. In the afternoon a private vehicle takes you from Luxor to Hurghada, a drive of about five hours, so this is a long day. The guide, the entrance fees and the transport are included.
- 8
A driver picks you up at your hotel and takes you to the marina, where a motorboat crosses to Orange Bay on Giftun Island. You snorkel twice with a guide, using the equipment and life jackets supplied, and a sunbed is yours on the beach between swims. A hot lunch and bottled water are included.
- 9
The Telescope Adventure is a jeep safari that heads out from Hurghada into the hills behind the coast. We confirm the exact route and your pickup time at booking. When you are back, the rest of the day is free for the hotel pool or the beach.
- 10
Breakfast is followed by the drive to Hurghada Airport and the flight to Cairo, where a driver meets you and takes you to your hotel. No sightseeing is planned. This last night in Cairo is deliberate: it gives you a safety window if a domestic flight runs late.
- 11
Your private driver collects you from the hotel after breakfast and takes you to Cairo Airport for your flight home. A representative can help you at the terminal. Your last domestic flight was yesterday, so nothing today depends on one.

Field notes
From our Egyptologists
- 01
Book Abu Simbel as early as possible, because road departures usually leave before sunrise.
- 02
At Giza, the clearest pyramid photos are often from the morning, before the desert haze builds.
- 03
On Luxor West Bank, wear shoes with grip, because tomb paths can be dusty and uneven.
- 04
For Khan El Khalili, ask for the first price and negotiate calmly, then compare two stalls before buying.
- 05
At Philae, the light is usually better before midmorning, when boat traffic is lighter.

How this compares
Many operators sell a Nile cruise and a Red Sea stay as separate trips. This itinerary joins them with Cairo and Alexandria in eleven days, with both flights and every transfer booked for you. Hotel and ship standard is your choice; the sightseeing does not change.

Children & families
Children are welcome. Every child takes a seat in the vehicle, so transport, guiding and meals are charged at the adult rate at any age. Entrance tickets are free for children under 6 and full price from 6. Cabin, hotel and flight prices depend on the child's age and the room or cabin used, so we give you the exact figure when you tell us the age at booking. The Alexandria day and the drive from Luxor to Hurghada are long, which is worth thinking about for younger children.
Accessibility
Who can join this
This tour involves a lot of walking on large archaeological sites, with uneven stone, sand, steps and some narrow tomb passages. Karnak and the Valley of the Kings have long outdoor stretches with little shade. Boarding the ship and the boat to Philae involve steps and a gangway, and the Orange Bay day involves a motorboat and a beach landing. Day 3 is about 12 hours including the drives to Alexandria, and day 7 ends with about five hours in a vehicle. The vehicles are private and air-conditioned, but we cannot promise wheelchair access at every site. Tell us your needs when you book and we will tell you honestly which parts are suitable.
– Responsible travel
How we travel here
The itinerary uses two domestic flights, a Nile cruise ship, a boat to Giftun Island and private road transfers, and vehicle types vary, so we do not claim a carbon saving. Sightseeing is guided by local Egyptologists and arranged through local suppliers in Cairo, Alexandria, Aswan, Luxor and Hurghada, so most of the money you spend stays in the places you visit. We ask guests to bring a refillable water bottle, not to touch coral or marine life when snorkeling and not to touch painted walls in tombs.

Asked & answered
Frequent questions
01Are the domestic flights included?
Yes. The flights from Cairo to Aswan on day 4 and from Hurghada to Cairo on day 10 are booked for you and are included in the price. The Luxor to Hurghada leg on day 7 is a private road transfer of about five hours. International flights are not.02How many nights do we spend on the Nile?
Three nights on board, from Aswan to Luxor, on full board with breakfast, lunch and dinner. The other seven nights are in hotels with breakfast.03What do we see on the cruise?
Philae, the High Dam and the Unfinished Obelisk in Aswan on day 4. On day 5 the ship sails north and you visit Kom Ombo and Edfu. On day 6 you visit Luxor Temple and Karnak, and on day 7 the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut's temple and the Colossi of Memnon.04Is sightseeing included on the ship?
Yes. The cruise sightseeing includes an English-speaking Egyptologist guide, the entrance fees and the transport for Philae, the High Dam, the Unfinished Obelisk, Kom Ombo, Edfu, Luxor Temple, Karnak and the Valley of the Kings, with three tombs.05Which ship and which hotels will we have?
You choose a standard when you book, from budget to luxury, and we confirm the ship and hotels for your dates. The itinerary and sightseeing are identical at every standard.06Is the Alexandria day too much?
It is a long day, about 12 hours including the drives, and it suits good walkers. An Egyptologist guides you throughout, and lunch is by the sea.07Will I make my international flight?
Domestic and international tickets are separate bookings, so a delayed domestic flight can cost you the connection. That is why this tour ends with a night in Cairo after the last internal flight on day 10. If you add flights of your own and must connect the same day, choose a late-evening or night international flight, and take travel insurance that covers missed connections.08What is not included?
International flights, the Egypt visa, tips for guides, drivers and ship staff, drinks other than those stated and meals other than those listed, the inside of the Khufu pyramid and premium tombs such as Tutankhamun's.09When is the best time to go?
October to April is cooler and the most comfortable for walking around the sites. Summers are very hot, especially in Luxor and Aswan, so days start early. The Red Sea is warm for much of the year.
