The ride from Hurghada Airport to your hotel takes between about 10 minutes and just over an hour, depending on the resort. Hurghada town is closest, El Gouna is a short drive north, and Sahl Hasheesh, Makadi Bay, Soma Bay and Safaga lie progressively further south. Find your hotel's area in the list below, then choose your transfer.
All distances here are approximate, as roads, checkpoints and traffic vary, and your own hotel may sit nearer or further from the stated center of its area. Treat the times as planning figures. If you have a tour or a flight to connect with on arrival day, build in a margin.
Distances and journey times
- Hurghada town and the main hotel strip: roughly 5 to 15 kilometers, about 10 to 20 minutes.
- El Gouna: roughly 20 to 30 kilometers north, about 20 to 35 minutes.
- Sahl Hasheesh: roughly 20 to 30 kilometers south, about 25 to 40 minutes.
- Makadi Bay: roughly 30 to 40 kilometers south, about 35 to 50 minutes.
- Soma Bay: roughly 40 to 50 kilometers south, about 45 to 60 minutes.
- Safaga: roughly 55 to 70 kilometers south, about one hour or a little more.
The list runs from nearest to furthest, except that El Gouna lies in the opposite direction, to the north. If your resort sits at the far end of its area, add 10 minutes. If you land on a weekend evening or late at night, roads are generally quiet, but the airport itself can take time to clear.
Option one: a private transfer
A pre-booked private transfer is the simplest choice. The driver meets you at arrivals, helps with your bags and takes you straight to your hotel. You agree on the arrangement before you fly and so avoid haggling when you are tired. It is also a comfortable option for families with a lot of luggage and for late-night flights.
The airport-transfers page for Hurghada shows what is on offer and the current price for your group size. Compare the price with a taxi for your whole group, not per person. Give the booking your flight number so the driver can follow delays and be waiting when you walk out.
On a late arrival, ask your hotel to confirm that reception is staffed, so check-in is quick when you reach the door. If your flight lands in the small hours, a driver who is already waiting is worth more than a cheaper ride you have to hunt for. Tell the hotel your flight number too, since a delay can change who is on duty.
Option two: a taxi or a hotel shuttle
Taxis wait outside arrivals. They are quick to find, but the fare is negotiated, and drivers often quote high to new arrivals. Agree the price for the whole car before you get in, and pay only on arrival. Some hotels run their own shuttles, so ask yours when you book and compare the offer with a private transfer. Whichever you choose, confirm who is meeting you and where, before you leave home.
Choosing your base for trips
Where you stay matters for excursions as well as for the airport run. Our day-trip pick-ups cover Hurghada, El Gouna, Makadi Bay, Sahl Hasheesh and Soma Bay, so you do not need to travel to a meeting point. We do not list Safaga among the pick-up areas, so ask our team before you book a trip from there. Browse the hotels page to compare areas.
A first day on arrival can be easy: a half-day city tour of Hurghada covers Al Mina Mosque, the fish market and fishing harbour, St Shenouda Coptic Church, the El Dahar souk and the marina promenade in about four hours. Pick-up is at 09:00 or 15:00, so it fits either a morning arrival or an afternoon one.
Entry and arrival checklist
- A valid passport and the Egypt visa; check the current visa fee on the official Egyptian e-visa site.
- Hurghada is on the Egyptian mainland, so the free Sinai-only entry stamp is not valid there.
- Your hotel name and address, and your transfer confirmation, printed or saved offline.
- Some small Egyptian pounds for tips, and a charged phone.
- Sunscreen and a hat in your hand luggage, since the walk to the vehicle is in the sun.
Arrivals can be slow when several flights land together. Passport control, the visa counter and the baggage hall all take time, so do not plan a tight connection for the first evening. A driver who tracks your flight number is worth having, and a charged phone makes finding each other easy.
