02Overview
A first look
This vacation keeps one hotel in Sharm El Sheikh and sends you out from it, one excursion a day. The days are paced as an outing plus free time, so you are never rushed from place to place.
You snorkel and see the Magic Lake at Ras Mohammed National Park. You climb Mount Sinai at night to watch the sunrise, then visit St Catherine's Monastery. You look at the reef from a semi-submarine. And you spend a full day by jeep at the Colored Canyon, the Blue Hole and Dahab. Two of these days are long and physical, and we say so in each day below. We book the airport transfers, the hotel and every excursion. International flights are not included.

Day by day
Detailed itinerary
6 Days / 5 Nights · Sharm El Sheikh · Ras Mohammed National Park · Magic Lake · Mount Sinai · St Catherine's Monastery · Colored Canyon
- 1
A representative meets you at Sharm El Sheikh Airport and a private car takes you to your hotel, with help for your luggage. Nothing else is planned. Settle in, find the pool or the beach, and sleep well, because the next days start early.
- 2
A shared minibus collects you at your hotel for the road to Ras Mohammed National Park, at the southern tip of Sinai. With your English-speaking guide you stop to snorkel, using the mask and snorkel provided, and visit the Magic Lake. A picnic lunch with water is included, and so is the park fee. The outing takes about six hours, and the rest of the day is yours back at the hotel.
- 3
This is the hardest day of the trip and the only thing planned. You are collected from your hotel in a shared minibus for the drive into the mountains, then climb Mount Sinai in the dark with a Bedouin mountain guide so you reach the top for sunrise. It is cold up there, so wear layers.
After the descent you have breakfast, then visit St Catherine's Monastery, with the protectorate fee and monastery entrance included. You return to the hotel after about 17 hours in all. Sleep is the plan for the rest of the day.
- 4
A slow day after the mountain. Your trip starts later in the day, so you can sleep in. You are collected from the hotel for a trip of about 90 minutes in a semi-submarine, shared with other guests, with a view of the reef through the windows below the waterline. A soft drink and water are on board. The whole outing takes about three hours.
Sea trips run when the weather and sea state allow, and the captain can change or cancel a sailing for safety. What you see of fish and corals depends on the day.
- 5
A full day out, about 11 hours, and again the only item on the day. A jeep with a driver, shared with other guests, takes you north from Sharm El Sheikh with your English-speaking guide. At the Colored Canyon a Bedouin guide leads you through the narrow rock walls on foot.
You then reach the Blue Hole near Dahab, where you can snorkel with the mask and snorkel provided, and have lunch at a restaurant on the shore. Protectorate fees and bottled water are included. The tracks are rough, so expect some bumps.
- 6
After breakfast, check out. A private car takes you from the hotel to Sharm El Sheikh Airport with help for your luggage. Your flight time is set by the airline, and we plan the pickup around it.

Field notes
From our Egyptologists
- 01
For the Mount Sinai night climb, wear sturdy shoes, bring a warm jacket and a head torch, and expect a crowded, chilly summit at dawn.
- 02
At Ras Mohammed, take reef shoes and a rash guard; the park's snorkeling spots are rocky entries and the sun reflects strongly off the water.
- 03
Visit St Catherine's Monastery dressed modestly, with shoulders and knees covered, and leave time to see the famed burning bush chapel.
- 04
On the Dahab jeep day, wrap a scarf over your nose and mouth in the Colored Canyon for the dusty sections, and keep your camera strap tight.

Suited to
Is this for you?
Yes, if
- Fit, active travelers who want a Red Sea base and a different Sinai outing each day. Suited to couples, friends and solo travelers who are comfortable swimming, snorkeling and walking in the dark.
Maybe not, if
- Young children, travelers with bad knees, a heart condition or breathing problems, and anyone who needs step-free access. Days 3 and 5 are long.
Honest assessment
Real trade-offs from our experience managing this tour.
Highlights
- One hotel for five nights, with no repacking
- Four varied Sinai excursions: reef, mountain, boat and jeep
- Guides, fees and snorkel gear on the relevant days are included
Things to Consider
- Day 3 is about 17 hours, with a night climb
- Day 5 is an 11-hour jeep day on rough tracks
- Not suited to young children or people with bad knees, heart or breathing problems
Where it fits
A good fit for active travelers who want more than the beach. Not a fit for those who want gentle days or who cannot manage a night climb.
Worth knowing
How this compares
Many Sharm packages sell only boat days. This one adds a mountain at sunrise and a jeep day to Dahab, with one hotel throughout. Days are paced as one excursion plus free time, apart from two long days.

Children & families
Children are welcome on the hotel and airport transfers, but this program is demanding. The Mount Sinai night climb on day 3 and the 11-hour jeep day on day 5 are not suited to young children. The operator confirms age limits for the climb, the semi-submarine and the snorkeling stops when you book. Hotel and excursion prices depend on the child's age and the room used, so we give you the exact figure once you tell us the age at booking.
Accessibility
Who can join this
This vacation is not suited to travelers with limited mobility. The Mount Sinai climb is a long walk on a rough mountain path at night, and the Colored Canyon day involves a jeep ride on rough tracks and walking on uneven ground. Boarding the semi-submarine involves a gangway and steps. The minibus and jeep are air-conditioned or open to the air depending on the vehicle, and we cannot promise wheelchair access at any of the excursion sites. Tell us your needs when you book and we will tell you honestly which days are realistic for you.
– Responsible travel
How we travel here
Ras Mohammed, Mount Sinai and the Blue Hole area are protected sites, and part of what you pay goes to the protectorate fees. Excursion vehicles are shared with other guests, which means fewer vehicles on the road, though we do not claim a carbon saving. Guiding is done by local English-speaking guides and Bedouin guides, so much of the spend stays in South Sinai. We ask guests to take their rubbish with them, use a refillable bottle, and not to touch or stand on the coral when snorkeling.

Asked & answered
Frequent questions
01How hard is the Mount Sinai climb?
It is the hardest part of the trip. You climb at night on a rough mountain path for sunrise, and the whole day takes about 17 hours. You should be fit, and it is not suited to young children or to people with bad knees, a heart condition or breathing problems. A Bedouin guide goes with you.02Is there a program on every day?
After day 1, each day is one excursion with the rest of the day free. Days 3 and 5 are long, and nothing else is planned on them. Day 4 starts later in the day.03Is snorkeling gear included?
Yes, on the Ras Mohammed day and the Colored Canyon, Blue Hole and Dahab day, a mask and snorkel are included. The semi-submarine trip needs no gear. Bring your own swimsuit and towel.04Will we see fish, turtles or dolphins?
Reef fish and corals are common at the snorkeling stops, but we cannot promise any particular animal. Wildlife is wild, and what you see depends on the day. This itinerary does not include a dolphin trip.05What happens if the sea is rough on the semi-submarine day?
Sea trips run when the weather and sea state allow. The boat captain can change or cancel a sailing for safety. If that happens we will talk to you about the options; refunds follow our cancellation and refund policy.06Which hotel will we stay in?
You choose a standard when you book, from budget to luxury, and we name the hotel for your dates. All five nights are in the same Sharm El Sheikh hotel.07Will I make my international flight?
On day 6 your transfer to Sharm El Sheikh Airport is planned around your flight. If you connect through Cairo or another airport on the same day, domestic and international tickets are separate bookings, so a delay on the first can cost you the second. We recommend a buffer night at your connection point where you can, or a late-evening or night international flight. Take travel insurance that covers missed connections.08What is not included?
International flights, the Egypt visa, tips for guides and drivers, meals and drinks other than those stated, and personal expenses.09What should I wear on Mount Sinai?
Warm layers and a jacket, closed shoes with good grip, and a torch or headlamp. It is cold before sunrise at the summit in every season, and you wear modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees at St Catherine's Monastery.
