Luxor to Aswan Solar Eclipse 2027 Nile Cruise
Sail from Luxor to Aswan for the 2027 total solar eclipse, with Egyptologist-guided visits to the Valley of the Kings, Karnak Temple and Philae Temple.
The short answer
8-Day Luxor Aswan Nile Cruise Solar Eclipse 2027 is an 8-day, 7-night trip to Luxor and Aswan: 7 nights on a Nile cruise. It includes an Egyptologist guide and transfers. Prices start at $4,116 per person, two sharing (Classic).
02Overview
A first look
By late morning in Luxor, the Nile reflects the harsh white sky, while shaded decks offer a quieter view of palm-lined banks and passing villages. During the 2027 total solar eclipse, the vessel remains moored in Luxor, giving you a reserved place on the sun deck as daylight changes around you.
Between eclipse observations, our Egyptologists lead you across temple courts, painted tomb passages, and the broad riverfront at Aswan. Sailing south creates a slower rhythm than a land tour, with time to watch daily life along the water and return to a cabin between visits. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we arrange your embarkation, shore transport, guide, and disembarkation details so the journey runs smoothly.

Detailed itinerary
8 Days / 7 Nights · Luxor · Luxor West Bank · Valley of the Kings · Hatshepsut Temple · Colossi of Memnon · Karnak Temple
- 1
After arriving at Luxor Airport, meet our representative for the transfer into Luxor. In the afternoon, your Egyptologist leads a West Bank visit to the Valley of the Kings, where royal tombs were cut into the Theban cliffs. Continue to Hatshepsut Temple, a terraced monument dedicated to the female pharaoh Hatshepsut, then see the Colossi of Memnon, two quartzite statues of Amenhotep III.
The 7-night Nile cruise sightseeing program begins in Luxor, with timing coordinated around your arrival.
- 2
Spend the day at leisure on board, watching the Nile landscape pass between Luxor and Upper Egypt. Your guide can also arrange an optional bus excursion to Dendera, about 60 kilometers north of Luxor. At the Temple of Hathor, you will see the Roman-era zodiac relief on the ceiling and inscriptions honoring the goddess Hathor.
The excursion returns to the Nile later in the day, while guests who remain on board can enjoy a slower schedule.
- 3
Today centers on the scheduled solar eclipse along the Nile near Luxor. Follow your guide’s safety instructions and use certified eclipse glasses during the viewing period; never look directly at the Sun. Later, visit Karnak Temple, the largest ancient religious complex in Egypt.
Your guide explains the Great Hypostyle Hall, whose 134 columns were built mainly during the reigns of Seti I and Ramesses II. The temple’s processional avenue once connected Karnak with Luxor Temple.
- 4
Continue south along the Nile toward Edfu, watching villages, cultivated riverbanks, and desert landscapes change along the shore. In the afternoon, your guide leads a visit to the Temple of Horus, one of Egypt’s best-preserved Ptolemaic temples. Built between 237 and 57 BCE, the temple is dedicated to the falcon-headed god Horus and features monumental pylons, reliefs, and a preserved sanctuary.
Unlike shorter shore excursions, this visit allows time to examine the temple’s inscriptions and architectural details before returning to the Nile.
- 5
During the morning sailing, your guide points out the changing Nile scenery between Luxor and Kom Ombo. At Kom Ombo, explore the unusual double temple dedicated to Sobek, the crocodile god, and Horus the Elder. Reliefs show medical instruments and ritual scenes, while the riverside setting explains the temple’s importance to ancient travelers.
After the visit, continue sailing south toward Aswan, where the day’s guided sightseeing concludes.
- 6
In the morning, your guide takes you by boat to Philae Temple on Agilkia Island, where you can see reliefs dedicated to Isis and Horus. You’ll then visit the Aswan High Dam, completed in 1970 and built across the Nile south of Aswan. In the afternoon, browse Aswan Bazaar with your guide, where spice stalls, textiles, perfumes, and everyday Egyptian goods line the market streets.
Compared with larger Cairo markets, the bazaar offers a more compact walk through local Aswan commerce.
- 7
Spend the day at leisure in Aswan, or choose an optional road excursion to Abu Simbel. The journey takes approximately three to four hours each way from Aswan, so an early departure is required. At Abu Simbel, your guide explains the rock-cut temples commissioned by Ramesses II, including the larger temple dedicated to Amun, Ra-Horakhty, Ptah, and the king himself.
The smaller temple honors Queen Nefertari and Hathor. If you remain in Aswan, use the day to explore independently or rest beside the Nile.
- 8
After breakfast, you will disembark in Aswan and meet our driver for the transfer to Aswan International Airport. Your departure timing determines the exact pickup time, and we coordinate the transfer around your flight schedule. Aswan sits beside the First Cataract of the Nile, where the river narrows around granite islands.
Allow extra time at the airport for check-in and security procedures before your final departure from Egypt.

Accessibility
Who can join this
This cruise and shore program require regular walking on uneven ground, stone paving, sand, steps, and sloped gangways. The Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut Temple, Karnak Temple, Edfu, Kom Ombo, and Philae each involve different surfaces and may have limited shade. Boarding the vessel normally requires using a gangway, and some decks may be reached by stairs. Wheelchair access can be restricted on the vessel, at archaeological sites, and on excursion vehicles. Guests with mobility needs should contact us before booking so we can check the assigned vessel, cabin location, vehicle access, and feasible sightseeing adjustments.
– Responsible travel
How we travel here
We arrange transport with local Egyptian drivers and excursion vehicles for the included sightseeing between Luxor, Edfu, Kom Ombo, and Aswan. The cruise vessel is operated by a local supplier, while meals, navigation, and onboard services are provided by that supplier. Using local Egyptologists, drivers, boat staff, and site services keeps spending within the communities along the Nile. Please use refillable water containers where practical and avoid leaving plastic or other waste at archaeological sites. We don't call this trip carbon neutral, because we haven't measured or offset its emissions.
