5-Day Cairo & Luxor Tour with Domestic Flights

The Giza Pyramids, the Sphinx, Saqqara and Memphis, then a flight to Luxor for Karnak, Luxor Temple and the Valley of the Kings. Flights, hotels, transfers and Egyptologist guides are included.

The short answer

5-Day Cairo & Luxor Tour with Domestic Flights is a 5-day, 4-night trip to Cairo and Luxor: 3 nights in Cairo and 1 in Luxor. It includes domestic flights, an Egyptologist guide, entrance fees and transfers. Prices start at $1,301 per person, two sharing (Essential, October–April).

02Overview

A first look

Five days is short, so this tour keeps the plan simple: Cairo first, then Luxor, then one more night in Cairo. You land in Cairo and have the evening to yourself. Day 2 is one full day with a private Egyptologist: the Giza Pyramids, the Great Sphinx, Memphis and Saqqara, with lunch on the way.

On day 3 you fly to Luxor and spend the rest of the day on the East Bank at Karnak and Luxor Temple. Day 4 is the West Bank, with the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut's temple and the Colossi of Memnon, and then you fly back to Cairo. That last night in Cairo is deliberate: it gives you a safety window if a domestic flight runs late. We book both flights, every transfer and your hotels. You choose the hotel standard when you book, and the sightseeing stays the same.

Field notes

From our Egyptologists

  1. 01

At Giza, morning light is cleaner before heat haze builds over the plateau.

  2. 02

Khan el-Khalili is calmer just after opening, before afternoon tour groups arrive.

  3. 03

In Luxor, the Valley of the Kings feels less crowded when the first entry slot is used.

  4. 04

Carry small cash for toilets and bottled water at site entrances.

  5. 05

For mosque visits in Cairo, keep shoulders and knees covered and bring socks.

Tailor it

Make it yours

Choose your hotel standard when you book. Ask us about extra nights in Luxor or Cairo, adding Abu Simbel, or a hot-air balloon flight in Luxor.

All requests handled by your dedicated specialist before booking.

Suited to

Is this for you?

Yes, if

  • First-time visitors who want Cairo and Luxor in a short trip. Suited to couples, friends and solo travelers who are comfortable with two short flights and several hours of walking on sightseeing days.

Maybe not, if

  • Travelers who need step-free access to every site, or who want a slow pace. Day 2 is about eight hours out, and days 3 and 4 combine sightseeing with a flight.

Honest assessment

Real trade-offs from our experience managing this tour.

Highlights

  • The pyramids, Saqqara, Memphis and Luxor's main sites in five days
  • Both domestic flights and all transfers handled for you
  • A last night in Cairo before your flight home

Things to Consider

  • Long days on days 2, 3 and 4, with a flight on days 3 and 4
  • Uneven stone, steps and little shade at the major sites
  • No Nile cruise and no Abu Simbel

Where it fits

A good first trip to Egypt when time is short. It has no Nile cruise and no Abu Simbel, so add nights or a longer tour if those are on your list.

Worth knowing

How this compares

Many operators sell Cairo and Luxor as separate trips. This tour joins them in five days, with both flights, a guide and every transfer booked for you. Hotel standard is your choice; the sightseeing does not change.

Children are welcome. Every child takes a seat in the vehicle, so transport, guiding and meals are charged at the adult rate at any age. Entrance tickets are free for children under 6 and full price from 6. Hotel prices depend on the child's age and the room used, so we give you the exact figure once you tell us the age at booking. Day 2 is about eight hours out, and days 3 and 4 include a flight, so they are long for small children.

Accessibility

Who can join this

This tour involves a lot of walking on large archaeological sites, with uneven stone, sand, steps and some narrow tomb passages. Giza, Saqqara, Karnak and the Valley of the Kings have long outdoor stretches with little shade. The vehicles are private and air-conditioned, but we cannot promise wheelchair access at every site. Tell us what you need when you book and we will say honestly which parts suit you.

– Responsible travel

How we travel here

The itinerary uses two short domestic flights and private road transfers, and vehicle types vary, so we do not claim a carbon saving. Sightseeing is guided by local Egyptologists and arranged through local suppliers in Cairo and Luxor, so much of what you spend stays in the places you visit. We ask guests to bring a refillable water bottle and to keep their hands off the painted walls in tombs.

  • Licensed Egyptologist guides

State-licensed, and people we have worked with for years

  • Fair wages on the ground

Drivers + guides paid above market

  • Site preservation

We follow the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities' site rules: marked paths, no touching reliefs

  • Local teams, real help

Our own offices in Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Hurghada, Marsa Alam and Sharm El Sheikh

Asked & answered

Frequent questions

  1. 01Are the domestic flights included?
Yes. The flight from Cairo to Luxor on day 3 and from Luxor to Cairo on day 4 are booked for you and included, with a 23 kg bag. Flight times are set by the airline schedule. International flights are not included.
  2. 02Will I make my international flight?
Your domestic and international tickets are separate bookings, so a delayed domestic flight can cost you the connection. That is why this tour ends with a last night in Cairo, as a safety window. If you change the plan to fly to Cairo and connect the same day, choose a late-evening or night international flight, and take travel insurance that covers missed connections.
  3. 03Does this tour include a Nile cruise?
No. You stay in hotels in Cairo and Luxor. If you would like a Nile cruise, ask us about a longer tour.
  4. 04Which hotels will we have?
You choose a standard when you book, from budget to luxury, and we confirm the hotels for your dates. Two nights are in Cairo, one in Luxor and a last night in Cairo, all with breakfast. The sightseeing is the same at every standard.
  5. 05How long is the Giza, Saqqara and Memphis day?
About eight hours with your Egyptologist, from hotel pickup to the return. It is a full day, so it suits good walkers. Lunch is included.
  6. 06Is day 4 too much?
It is a long day: about six hours on the West Bank and then a flight to Cairo. We arrange the sightseeing around your flight time. Guests who like a slower pace can ask us about adding a night in Luxor.
  7. 07Are the guide, entrance fees and transport included?
A licensed Egyptologist and air-conditioned transport are included on every sightseeing day. Entrance fees are included for Karnak, Luxor Temple and three tombs in the Valley of the Kings. Tell us when you book if you want to know about entry to any other site and we will confirm it.
  8. 08Is Abu Simbel included?
No. Abu Simbel is not part of this itinerary. Ask us if you want to add it, and we will talk you through the options.
  9. 09What is not included?
International flights, the Egypt entry visa, tips for guides and drivers, drinks and meals other than those stated, extras such as entering the Great Pyramid and premium tombs, and travel insurance.
