02Overview
A first look
Five days is enough for three very different parts of Egypt. You arrive in Cairo and have the first evening free. Day 2 is the Giza Pyramids, the Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum, and that evening you fly to Luxor. Day 3 is Luxor in a single day: the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut's temple and the Colossi of Memnon on the West Bank, then Karnak and Luxor Temple on the East Bank, before a flight back to Cairo.
Day 4 is a day trip to Alexandria on the coast. It is a long day on the road, about 12 hours with the drives, so it suits good walkers. You leave from Cairo on day 5. We book both flights, the transfers, your hotels and the entrance tickets. You choose the hotel standard when you book.

Day by day
Detailed itinerary
5 Days / 4 Nights · Cairo · Luxor · Alexandria
- 1
A representative meets you in the arrivals hall at Cairo Airport and takes you to your hotel. Nothing is planned for the rest of the day, so you can rest after your flight and get ready for tomorrow's early start. Your hotel can suggest places to eat nearby.
- 2
A full day with your English-speaking Egyptologist guide, about eight hours in all. You begin on the Giza Plateau with the pyramids and the Great Sphinx, then have lunch and continue to the Grand Egyptian Museum for the Tutankhamun collection and the great statues of the Old and New Kingdoms. The guide, the entrance fees and the air-conditioned transport are included.
Later you transfer to Cairo Airport for the flight to Luxor, and a driver takes you to your hotel. We arrange the sightseeing around the airline's flight time.
- 3
A very full day. With your Egyptologist you cross to the West Bank for the Valley of the Kings, where three tombs are included, Hatshepsut's temple and the Colossi of Memnon. Then you visit the East Bank: Karnak, the largest temple complex in Egypt, and Luxor Temple. The guide, the entrance fees and the transport between sites are included.
A transfer takes you to Luxor Airport for the flight back to Cairo, and then to your hotel. The sightseeing is planned around the airline's flight time.
- 4
Set aside the whole day, about 12 hours with the drives, and bring good walking shoes. Your Egyptologist picks you up at the Cairo hotel for the run north to the Mediterranean coast.
In Alexandria you go underground at the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, see the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the modern library that stands near where the ancient one did, and walk the walls of the Citadel of Qaitbay over the harbor. Lunch comes with a sea view, followed by a stroll in the Montaza Palace gardens, then the drive back to Cairo.
Your guide, entry to the sites listed and an air-conditioned vehicle are included.
- 5
Have breakfast at your hotel. A private transfer takes you to Cairo Airport, allowing about 90 minutes for the drive. Spending the last night in Cairo gives a safety window if a domestic flight runs late earlier in the trip, so you reach your international flight calmly.

Field notes
From our Egyptologists
- 01
Visit Giza early, before midday heat and the heaviest coach arrivals.
- 02
At Karnak Temple, the earliest light gives the clearest photos of the hypostyle hall columns.
- 03
Wear shoes with grip, especially for the Valley of the Kings stairs and uneven paths.
- 04
Alexandria’s coastal wind can make evenings cooler than Cairo, even in warm months.
- 05
Carry small cash for drinks and tipping, since those are not included unless stated.

Honest assessment
Real trade-offs from our experience managing this tour.
Highlights
- The pyramids, the Grand Egyptian Museum, Luxor and Alexandria in five days
- Both domestic flights, transfers and entrance fees handled for you
- A last night in Cairo protects your flight home
Things to Consider
- Days 2 and 3 each include a flight, and day 4 is about 12 hours
- Uneven stone, steps and little shade at the major sites
- No Aswan, Abu Simbel or Nile cruise
Where it fits
A good fit if you have five days and want pharaonic sites plus the coast. If you want Aswan, Abu Simbel or a Nile cruise, choose a longer tour.
Worth knowing
How this compares
Many operators sell Cairo, Luxor and Alexandria separately. This tour joins them in five days with both flights, the transfers and the entrance fees booked for you, and ends with a night in Cairo so a late domestic flight does not threaten your flight home.

Accessibility
Who can join this
This tour involves a lot of walking on large archaeological sites, with uneven stone, sand, steps and some narrow tomb passages. The Valley of the Kings and Karnak have long outdoor stretches with little shade. The Alexandria day adds around 12 hours in a vehicle and on foot, including the drives. Vehicles are air-conditioned, but we cannot promise wheelchair access at every site. Tell us your needs when you book and we will tell you honestly which parts are suitable.
– Responsible travel
How we travel here
The itinerary uses two domestic flights and road transfers, and the vehicle type can vary, so we do not claim a carbon saving. Sightseeing is guided by local Egyptologists and arranged through local suppliers in Cairo, Luxor and Alexandria, so most of the money you spend stays in the places you visit. We ask guests to bring a refillable water bottle and not to touch painted walls in tombs.

Asked & answered
Frequent questions
01Are the domestic flights included?
Yes. The flights from Cairo to Luxor on day 2 and from Luxor to Cairo on day 3 are booked for you and included in the price. International flights are not.02Will I make my international flight?
Domestic and international tickets are separate bookings, so a delayed domestic flight can cost you the connection. That is why this tour ends with a night in Cairo before you leave. If you ever fly to Cairo and connect on the same day, choose a late-evening or night international flight, and take travel insurance that covers missed connections.03Is the Alexandria day tiring?
It is a long day, about 12 hours including the drives, so it suits good walkers. You have an Egyptologist guide, lunch by the sea and four stops. If you would rather not do it, ask us about a free day in Cairo instead.04Are a guide and entrance fees included?
Yes. An English-speaking Egyptologist guide, the entrance fees and the transport are included on the Giza, museum, Luxor and Alexandria days. The tour includes three tombs in the Valley of the Kings.05Which hotels will we have?
You choose a standard when you book, from budget to luxury, and we name the hotels for your dates. There are four hotel nights, three in Cairo and one in Luxor, all with breakfast. The sightseeing is the same at every standard.06Is anything planned on day 1?
No. Day 1 is arrival, the airport transfer and a free evening. You can add a Nile dinner cruise or another evening plan; ask us.07What is not included?
International flights, the Egypt visa, tips for guides and drivers, drinks other than those stated, dinners, the interior of the Khufu pyramid, premium tombs such as Tutankhamun's, and travel insurance.08When is the best time to go?
October to April is cooler and the most comfortable for walking around temples. Summers are hot, especially in Luxor, so sightseeing starts early.
