7-Day Family Cairo & Hurghada Vacation
Camels at sunset by the pyramids, the Grand Egyptian Museum, then a flight to the Red Sea for a beach day and a glass-bottom boat. Hotels, the flight and guiding are included.
The short answer
7-Day Family Cairo & Hurghada Vacation is a 7-day, 6-night trip to Cairo and Hurghada: 3 nights in Cairo and 3 in Hurghada. It includes domestic flights, an Egyptologist guide, entrance fees and transfers. Prices start at $1,435 per person, two sharing (Comfort, October–April).
02Overview
A first look
Seven days, two very different halves. The first three are in Cairo. You ride camels near the Giza Pyramids at sunset on the night you arrive, spend a full day with a private Egyptologist at the pyramids, the Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum, and finish with Saqqara, Memphis and a sunset felucca ride on the Nile.
Then you fly to Hurghada on the Red Sea and slow down. There is a boat day to Paradise Island with a sunbed and snorkeling, a semi-submarine and glass-bottom boat trip over the reef, and a quad bike evening in the desert with a Bedouin dinner. We book the domestic flight, the transfers and your hotels. You pick the hotel standard when you book, and the plan stays the same.

Day by day
Detailed itinerary
7 Days / 6 Nights · Cairo · Giza Plateau · Grand Egyptian Museum · Saqqara · Memphis · Nile Felucca
- 1
A private representative meets you at Cairo Airport and takes you to your hotel, about an hour away. Later in the day you are collected from your hotel for a camel ride near the Giza Pyramids at sunset. The outing is about three hours in all, with around an hour on the camel, one camel for each adult, tea and bottled water. The timing is arranged around your arrival flight.
Back to your hotel for the first of three nights in Cairo.
- 2
A full day of about eight hours with a licensed Egyptologist. You are picked up at your hotel and start on the Giza Plateau with the great pyramids and the Sphinx. Lunch is at a restaurant with a view. Then you go on to the Grand Egyptian Museum, where the Tutankhamun collection and huge statues from the pharaohs' time are easier for children when someone tells the stories.
Entrance fees, the guide, the vehicle and bottled water are included.
- 3
A gentler day. In the morning your private Egyptologist takes you to Saqqara and Memphis, about five hours in a private air-conditioned vehicle. Saqqara is home to the oldest pyramid in Egypt, and Memphis was the first capital of ancient Egypt. In the evening you step aboard a felucca, a traditional Nile sailing boat, as the sun sets over Cairo. It is a quiet end to your time in the city.
- 4
After breakfast a private transfer takes you from your Cairo hotel to Cairo Airport. You fly to Hurghada, about an hour in the air, with 23 kg of luggage per person and taxes included. A transfer meets you at Hurghada Airport and takes you to your hotel. The flight is set by the airline schedule. The rest of the day is free for the pool or the beach.
- 5
A boat day of about eight hours. You are collected from your hotel and join a boat shared with other guests, sailing to Paradise Island. There is a sunbed and parasol for you on the beach, and a snorkeling guide with a mask, snorkel and fins for anyone who wants to swim. Children who would rather not get in the water can stay on the sand.
Lunch is on board, with soft drinks and water, and marine park fees are included.
- 6
In the morning you go on a three-hour trip with a two-hour ride on a semi-submarine, shared with other guests, which shows you the reef through its windows, plus a glass-bottom boat and a short swim stop with a mask and snorkel.
In the evening you are collected again for a quad bike safari in the desert, about five hours in all, with a guide and a helmet, a short camel ride at the Bedouin camp, a barbecue dinner and a folklore show. Riders must be 16 or over, and two people can share a bike on request. It is a full day.
- 7
After breakfast you check out and a private transfer takes you from your hotel to Hurghada Airport, about an hour. The tour ends at the airport. Please allow plenty of time for check-in, and see our answer about onward flights if you are connecting through Cairo.

Field notes
From our Egyptologists
- 01
Dress kids in hats and a scarf over the face for the camel ride; sand blows across the Giza plateau at dusk.
- 02
At the Grand Egyptian Museum, start with the Grand Staircase and Tutankhamun galleries while children's energy is high, then slow down.
- 03
For the quad bike evening, closed shoes, long trousers and a scarf over the nose keep desert dust out.
- 04
Pack dry clothes for children after Paradise Island and a snack for the boat; the return crossing can feel breezy.

Worth knowing
How this compares
Many family trips to Egypt are either all ancient sites or all beach. This one splits the week, three nights of history in Cairo and three at the Red Sea, with the flight and transfers booked for you. Hotel standard is your choice, and the sightseeing does not change.

Children & families
Children are welcome and this tour is built around them. Every child takes a seat in the vehicles. Hotel, flight and excursion prices depend on the child's age, so we give you the exact figure when you tell us each age at booking. Quad bikes are for riders aged 16 or over. A younger child can stay out of that evening, and we can arrange for two to share one bike on request. For the camel ride we confirm with the handler how younger children ride before the day.
Accessibility
Who can join this
The Giza Plateau and Saqqara involve walking on sand and uneven ground with little shade, and the camel ride, the felucca and the boats involve steps and getting on and off. The Grand Egyptian Museum is a large building with long distances to walk. Vehicles are private and air-conditioned. The quad bike evening needs a rider who can balance, hold the handlebars and wear a helmet. We cannot promise wheelchair access at every stop. Tell us your needs when you book and we will say honestly which parts suit you.
– Responsible travel
How we travel here
This week uses one domestic flight, private road transfers and several boat and quad bike outings, so we do not claim a carbon saving. Sightseeing is guided by local Egyptologists and the boat trips use local crews, so most of what you spend stays in Cairo and Hurghada. On the reef we ask guests not to touch or stand on coral, to wear sunscreen that is kind to marine life, and to take refillable water bottles.

Asked & answered
Frequent questions
01Is the flight from Cairo to Hurghada included?
Yes. The domestic flight on day 4 is booked for you, with 23 kg of luggage and taxes, and so are the transfers on both sides. International flights are not included.02Is this a good family vacation for children?
Yes. There is a camel ride, a felucca on the Nile, a semi-submarine and glass-bottom boat, and a beach day. Day 2 is a full eight-hour day, so we recommend it for children who are happy in a car and on their feet for much of the day.03Can children who cannot swim go on the Paradise Island day?
Yes. The island has a sunbed, a parasol and a sandy beach, and snorkeling is optional. The semi-submarine and glass-bottom boat show you the reef without getting in the water.04How old do you have to be for the quad bikes?
Riders must be 16 or over. Younger children can skip that evening, or two people can share one bike on request. We will tell you which option fits your family when you book.05Will I make my international flight home?
The tour ends at Hurghada Airport on day 7. If you fly home from there, allow plenty of time. If you connect through Cairo, the domestic and international tickets are separate bookings, so a delayed domestic flight can cost you the connection. Choose a late-evening or night international flight, book an extra night in Cairo with us, and take travel insurance that covers missed connections.06What is included in the excursions?
A private Egyptologist and entrance fees for Giza and the Grand Egyptian Museum on day 2, a private Egyptologist and vehicle for Saqqara and Memphis, lunch on days 2 and 5, the boat, sunbed and snorkeling kit on day 5, and a Bedouin dinner on day 6.07Which hotels will we stay in?
You choose a standard when you book, from budget to luxury, and we name the hotels in Cairo and Hurghada for your dates. The sightseeing is the same at every standard.08What is not included?
International flights, the Egypt visa, tips for guides and drivers, drinks and meals other than those stated, the Khufu pyramid interior, and travel insurance.09When is the best time to go?
October to April is cooler and best for the pyramids. The Red Sea is warm enough for the boat days most of the year, and summer is hot in Cairo, so we start the sightseeing early.
