02Overview
A first look
This is a Red Sea week built around the water. You land in Hurghada, settle into your hotel, and from day 2 you take one trip a day: a boat to Orange Bay on Giftun Island, a snorkeling trip to the Dolphin House reef, a ride in a semi-submarine, and a day of two guided intro dives.
Each day is one excursion, and the rest of it is yours. Spend it by the hotel pool, on the beach or exploring town. We book the airport transfers, your hotel and every trip listed. You choose the standard of hotel when you book, from budget to luxury, and the trips stay the same. Boats sail when weather and sea state allow, and the captain makes the final call on the day.

Day by day
Detailed itinerary
6 Days / 5 Nights · Hurghada · Red Sea · Giftun Island · Orange Bay Island · Dolphin House
- 1
Your driver is waiting at Hurghada Airport and takes you straight to your hotel. Nothing else is planned, so use the afternoon to unpack, find the pool or walk down to the sea. You start on the water tomorrow.
- 2
After breakfast a driver collects you from the hotel for the marina. A motorboat takes you across the water to Orange Bay on Giftun Island. You make two guided snorkeling sessions, with snorkel gear and life jackets provided, and spend the time between them on the beach, where a sunbed is yours. A hot lunch and bottled water are served on the island.
The boat brings you back to the marina and you are driven to your hotel. The evening is free.
- 3
This is a boat day of about eight hours, shared with other guests. You are collected from your hotel and sail out to the Dolphin House reef, where a snorkeling guide leads you in the water. Mask, snorkel and fins are included, and so are marine park fees. Lunch is served on board with soft drinks and water.
The reef is named for the dolphins that visit, but they are wild, so sightings are likely at best and never promised. The boat captain can change the plan for the weather. You are dropped back at your hotel in the afternoon.
- 4
A short outing, about three hours, and the lightest day of the week. A driver takes you to the harbor, where you join a semi-submarine shared with other guests. Its windows sit below the waterline, so you watch the reef and its fish without getting wet. The trip lasts two hours, and there is a swim stop for which a mask and snorkel are supplied. A soft drink and water come with the ride.
After that you are taken back to the hotel, and the rest of the day is free.
- 5
Your first scuba day, about eight hours on a dive boat shared with other guests. A certified instructor briefs you on the basics, fits you with full scuba equipment and takes you down for two guided intro dives. No experience is needed.
You complete a medical questionnaire first, and the dives are not for people with some conditions, among them heart problems, asthma and ear problems, or for anyone who is pregnant. This is an introduction, not a PADI course, so no certification is awarded. Lunch, soft drinks, water and marine park fees are included. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included.
- 6
Have breakfast, check out and meet your driver for the transfer to Hurghada Airport, about an hour away. Allow time for the ride and airport check-in when you book your flight home.

Field notes
From our Egyptologists
- 01
Practice breathing through your snorkel in the shallows before the Orange Bay swim stop, so the open-water sessions feel calm.
- 02
Tell the instructor if your ears feel blocked on the intro dive day, and equalise slowly on each descent.
- 03
Take a waterproof phone pouch for the semi-submarine and glass-bottom boat, where reef fish pass right beside the windows.
- 04
Wear a long-sleeved rash top on the Dolphin House boat, as the sun reflecting off the water burns quickly.

Suited to
Is this for you?
Yes, if
- Travelers who can swim and want to try snorkeling and a first scuba dive from a comfortable Hurghada base. Suited to couples, friends and families with older children who are happy on boats.
Maybe not, if
- Non-swimmers, anyone afraid of open water, and people with a heart condition, asthma, ear problems or pregnancy, who cannot do the intro dives. Not for travelers who want a packed land itinerary.
Honest assessment
Real trade-offs from our experience managing this tour.
Highlights
- Four different reef and boat days in five nights
- Gear, lunches and hotel pickups included on each trip
- Light pacing, with one excursion a day and the rest free
Things to Consider
- Boat trips depend on weather and sea state, and the captain can change a sailing
- No sightseeing on land; this is a sea-based week
- Dolphins are wild, so sightings are not guaranteed
Where it fits
A good first Red Sea trip for beginners who want to try snorkeling and a dive without a certification course.
Worth knowing
How this compares
Many Hurghada packages sell a hotel and let you add trips one by one. This vacation fixes four reef days in one booking, with transfers, hotel pickups and the listed gear included. The intro dives are a taster, not a PADI course.

Children & families
Children are welcome on the boat trips, and each child takes a seat in the vehicle. Hotel and trip prices depend on the child's age and the room used, so we give you the exact figure when you tell us the age at booking. Snorkeling and the intro dives depend on swimming ability, size and health, and the operator confirms the age limits for each trip when you book. Children should always stay with an adult on the boats.
Accessibility
Who can join this
Every trip is by boat, and boarding means walking along a pier and stepping onto a deck, sometimes in a swell. Snorkeling and diving need you to be able to swim and enter the water. The semi-submarine involves steps down into the hull. The vehicles are air-conditioned, but we cannot promise wheelchair access on the boats. Tell us your needs when you book and we will say honestly which parts suit you.
– Responsible travel
How we travel here
Every trip uses a motor boat or a minibus, and vehicles vary, so we do not claim a carbon saving. The boats, crews and dive instructors are local suppliers in Hurghada, so much of what you spend stays in town. Please wear reef-safe sunscreen, do not touch or stand on coral and never feed the fish. Marine park rules protect the reef and your guides will explain them.

Asked & answered
Frequent questions
01Are the airport transfers included?
Yes. A driver meets you at Hurghada Airport on day 1 and takes you back on day 6. International flights are not included.02How busy is each day?
Each day after arrival has one excursion, and the rest of the day is yours. Boat days run about eight hours, the semi-submarine trip about three, and day 1 and day 6 are for travel.03Do I need to know how to dive?
No. The dive day is for beginners. A certified instructor leads two guided intro dives, and all scuba equipment is provided. It is an introduction, not a PADI course, and you do not gain a certification.04Who should not do the intro dives?
You fill in a medical questionnaire first. The dives are not suitable for people with some conditions, including heart problems, asthma and ear problems, or for anyone who is pregnant. The operator confirms the age limits when you book.05Will we see dolphins?
They are wild, so we cannot promise it. The Dolphin House reef is named for the dolphins that visit it, and sightings are likely at best. The reef itself is worth the trip either way.06What if the sea is rough?
Boats sail when weather and sea state allow. The captain can change or cancel a sailing for safety. If that happens, we help you rearrange the trip, within what our cancellation policy covers.07Is snorkeling gear included?
Yes, where the trip lists it: snorkel gear and life jackets at Orange Bay, mask, snorkel and fins on the Dolphin House trip, and mask and snorkel at the semi-submarine swim stop.08Which hotel will we have?
You choose a standard when you book, from budget to luxury, and we name the hotel for your dates. The trips are the same at every standard.09Will I make my international flight?
Day 6 ends with the transfer to Hurghada Airport, so there is no domestic flight on this tour that could delay you. If your flight home is out of Cairo, that is a separate booking, so leave a generous margin, or add a night in Cairo. Travel insurance that covers missed connections is a good idea.
