The short answer
4-Day Cairo, White Desert & Bahariya Oasis Tour is a 4-day, 3-night trip to Cairo. It includes an Egyptologist guide, entrance fees and transfers. Prices start at $683 per person, two sharing (Essential, October–April).
02Overview
A first look
Four days gives you Egypt's best-known monument and its strangest landscape. You land in Cairo and spend the first day at the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx. Days 2 and 3 are a private trip into the Western Desert: Bahariya Oasis, the Black Desert, Crystal Mountain and the chalk rocks of the White Desert, in a 4x4 with a local desert driver-guide.
You sleep one night in a simple desert camp: a tent, a mattress, a sleeping bag and blankets, with shared facilities. This is not a hotel night, and it is not for everyone. We sell the trip on request. Before you pay, we confirm the camp arrangements and the final price for the desert part with you. Day 4 is the Egyptian Museum, then your flight home.

Day by day
Detailed itinerary
4 Days / 3 Nights · Cairo · Giza Plateau · Great Sphinx · Bahariya Oasis · Black Desert · Crystal Mountain
- 1
A representative meets you in the arrivals hall at Cairo Airport and takes you to your hotel. Your sightseeing is arranged around your arrival time. With an English-speaking Egyptologist you visit the Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx on a half-day tour. The guide, the entrance fees and the transport are all included. You sleep in a Cairo hotel tonight. Tomorrow starts early, so rest well.
- 2
A private driver collects you from your Cairo or Giza hotel and takes you across the Western Desert to Bahariya Oasis. From there you continue in a 4x4 with a local desert driver-guide through the Black Desert and past Crystal Mountain to the White Desert, where the wind has carved the white rock into odd shapes. Lunch and dinner are included today.
You spend the night in a simple camp: a tent, a mattress, a sleeping bag and blankets, with shared facilities. This is not a hotel night, and the desert gets cold after dark.
- 3
Breakfast is served at the camp. Then you drive back to Cairo, by 4x4 and private vehicle, and are dropped at your hotel. The protected-area fees for the White Desert and the bottled water for the trip are included. The afternoon and evening are free: rest, shower and have dinner wherever you like. You sleep in a Cairo hotel tonight.
- 4
After breakfast you check out and visit the Egyptian Museum on a half-day tour with your Egyptologist. The guide, the entrance fee and the transport are included. Then a private transfer takes you to Cairo Airport for your flight home. Book a flight that leaves at midday or later, so the museum visit is not rushed.

Field notes
From our Egyptologists
- 01
Bring a warm layer and a headscarf for the White Desert camp; nights get cold and the 4x4 ride is dusty.
- 02
Walk a little way from camp after dinner to see the chalk formations under stars with almost no light pollution.
- 03
Pack a small overnight bag for the desert, since your main luggage can stay at the Cairo hotel.
- 04
On the Giza half day, ask your guide to stop at a panoramic viewpoint for the full line of three Pyramids.

Accessibility
Who can join this
This tour is not step-free. The Giza Plateau has uneven ground, steps and long outdoor stretches with little shade. The desert part uses a 4x4 on rough tracks and involves walking on sand and rock. The night is spent in a simple camp with a tent, a mattress, a sleeping bag and blankets, and facilities are shared. Nights in the desert can be cold. Tell us your needs when you book. The camp arrangements and the final price for the desert part are confirmed with you before you pay, and we will tell you honestly if this trip is not right for you.
– Responsible travel
How we travel here
The tour uses private road transport and a 4x4 with a local desert driver-guide, so we do not claim a carbon saving. The desert part is arranged with local desert guides, and the protected-area fees for the White Desert are included. We ask guests to take their rubbish with them, to stay on the tracks your driver-guide uses, and to leave rocks and fossils where they lie.

Asked & answered
Frequent questions
01How do I book the White Desert part?
This trip is sold on request. Send us your dates and we check availability. We confirm the camp arrangements and the final price for the desert part with you before you pay.02What is the desert camp like?
It is simple. You sleep in a tent on a mattress, with a sleeping bag and blankets. Facilities are shared. It is a night in the desert, not a hotel night, and it gets cold after dark.03What is included on the two desert days?
A private air-conditioned vehicle and driver between Cairo and Bahariya, a 4x4 with a local desert driver-guide, one night in camp, lunch and dinner on the first day and breakfast on the second, White Desert protected-area fees and bottled water. Hotel pick-up and drop-off in Cairo or Giza are included.04What will we see in the desert?
Bahariya Oasis, the Black Desert, Crystal Mountain and the White Desert. The White Desert is known for its white rock, shaped by wind into unusual forms.05How many hotel nights are there?
Two. You stay in a Cairo hotel on nights 1 and 3. Night 2 is in the desert camp. You choose the hotel standard when you book, and we name the hotel for your dates.06Will I make my international flight?
Day 4 has no domestic flight, only a drive to Cairo Airport, so the risk is low. Still, international and domestic tickets are separate bookings. If you add a domestic flight, a delay could cost you the connection. We prefer one last night in Cairo, and if you must connect the same day, choose a late-evening or night flight. Take travel insurance that covers missed connections.07Is this trip suitable for children?
Children are welcome on the Cairo days. The desert night is a tent with shared facilities and cold nights, so tell us the child's age and we will say honestly whether it suits.08What is not included?
International flights, the Egypt visa, tips for guides and drivers, drinks other than bottled water, meals other than those stated, and travel insurance.
