02Overview
A first look
This is a short, easy way to see the Giza pyramids from the desert. A driver collects you from your Cairo or Giza hotel at about 15:30, and the time moves with the season so you reach the stables before the light fades. You meet your camel and its handler near the plateau, and you ride for about an hour through the sand with the pyramids in view. There is a tea stop at a viewpoint for the sunset, and you are back at your hotel between 18:00 and 18:30. Please note that the ride is in the desert beside the Giza Plateau. It does not go inside the ticketed pyramid site, and entry to the plateau is not included. Each adult rides their own camel, and a child can share with a parent. We use stables we know, and we ask you to tell us if anything looks wrong. You can book online, and the booking is confirmed at once.
Background
The facts

Detailed itinerary
- 1
Your driver and escort meet you in the lobby of your Cairo or Giza hotel at about 15:30. The time moves with the season, and we confirm it with you before the day.
- 2
At about 16:15 you arrive at the stables near the plateau. The handler helps you up, adjusts the saddle and explains how to hold on. Each adult has their own camel, and a child can share with a parent.
- 3
At about 16:30 you set off through the desert for about one hour with the pyramids in view. The handler walks beside you, and the pace is slow. Please tell us or the handler at once if an animal looks unwell or poorly treated.
- 4
At about 17:30 you stop at a viewpoint for tea and the sunset. This is the best time for photos, with the light low on the stone.
- 5
You leave at about 18:00 and are back at your hotel between 18:00 and 18:30, depending on traffic.

Children & families
Children's prices are set from the ages you give when you book. Each adult has one camel, and a child can share with a parent. We recommend the ride for children who can sit still and hold on, and the handler decides whether it is safe on the day. Very young children are better off not riding.
Indicative rates only – pricing and departure fluctuate. Please enquire for live rates on your specific dates.

Frequent questions
01How is this private trip priced?
The price is per person, and it falls as the group grows, because the vehicle, driver and escort are shared. It covers the transfers, the camel and handler for about one hour, and tea. The price shown when you choose your group size is what you pay.02How do I book this trip?
You book online by choosing your date and group size, and the booking is confirmed instantly. Please give us your hotel name so the driver knows where to find you.03Do we go inside the pyramid site?
No. The ride takes place in the desert beside the Giza Plateau, not inside the ticketed site. You see the pyramids from the sand, and entry to the plateau is not included. If you also want to visit the site, our team can add a Giza tour on another day.04How are the camels treated?
We use stables we know, and the handler walks with you throughout. We cannot promise what you will see at every stable, so we ask you to tell us if anything looks wrong, and we will act on it.05What is the cancellation policy?
More than 72 hours ahead, keep 100% as credit toward future travel or take a 100% refund, less bank charges. Between 72 and 24 hours, keep 100% as credit or take a 50% refund. Within 24 hours, or if you don't show up, there is no refund or credit. If we have to cancel, you lose nothing.06Is this trip private, or will others join us?
It is private. Only your own party rides in the vehicle and on the ride. The maximum party is 10 people. Each adult has one camel, and a child can share with a parent.

This private half-day tour visits the Salah al-Din Citadel and the Mosque of Muhammad Ali in Cairo; it typically lasts three to four hours. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and our Egyptologist outlines the Citadel's 12th-century origins and Muhammad Ali Pasha's 19th-century mosque. We do not run large coach-group itineraries on this route; the tour is private with a driver and car. Unlike visits that focus only on the mosque, we include a walk on the Citadel ramparts and an optional visit to the National Military Museum when open. Expect limited shade at midday, uneven stone underfoot, and a routine security check at the entrance.
