02Overview

A first look

This is a 7-hour introductory scuba day from Sharm El Sheikh for people who have never dived and hold no certification. A shared dive boat carries up to 20 guests to sheltered reefs. After a briefing on breathing, equalizing and hand signals, you make two shallow dives with an instructor, the first to about 6 metres and the second to no more than 12. Equipment, lunch on board, marine park fees and hotel transfers are included. You need to be at least 10 years old and healthy enough to dive.

Background

The facts

Dive sites are sheltered reefs off Sharm El Sheikh on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, reached by boat in about an hour from the jetty. The full day, with transfers, takes about 7 hours.

Asked & answered

Frequent questions

  1. 01How does the price work for the intro dive day?
The price is per person for a place on a shared dive boat of up to 20 guests. It covers two instructor-led dives, equipment, lunch, drinks and marine park fees, plus hotel transfers. Prices are provisional until our team confirms your request. Photos, towels and dive insurance are extra.
  2. 02What time is pickup and where do I go?
Pickup is at 08:00 from hotels in Naama Bay, Sharks Bay, Nabq, Hadaba and the Old Market, and you are taken to the dive center first. Our team confirms the exact time once your request is accepted. Bring your passport or a copy for the jetty.
  3. 03What is the minimum age, and do children pay less?
Children under 2 travel free, ages 2 to 11 pay half the adult price, and ages 12 and over pay the adult price. The minimum age for diving is 10, and every guest completes a medical self-declaration. A younger child cannot take part in this trip.
  4. 04Do I need to be a strong swimmer?
You should be comfortable in water and able to swim. Experience with scuba is not needed, since the instructor teaches you everything and stays beside you. Be honest on the medical form about asthma, ear problems, heart conditions or recent illness, because these can stop you from diving that day.
  5. 05What if I cancel, or the weather turns?
A full refund applies if you cancel at least 3 days ahead. Cancel between 3 days and 24 hours before and we refund half. Closer than 24 hours, or a no-show, is not refundable. Tell us as early as you can, because the refund depends on how many days remain before the trip starts. A trip the port authority stops for weather is moved to another day or refunded.
  6. 06Will I dive alone with an instructor?
Not alone. The boat is shared with up to 20 guests, and each instructor looks after at most two guests on the first dive. You enter the water together as a small group, and the instructor stays within reach throughout both dives.
