02Overview
A first look
This is a private 7-hour day trip from Alexandria to Rosetta, known in Arabic as Rashid. A driver and guide collect you at 08:30 and drive east along the coast for about an hour and a half. Rosetta is a quiet old town where the Nile meets the sea, with Ottoman merchant houses, a mill and a bathhouse. Its fort is where French soldiers found the Rosetta Stone in 1799, the slab that helped scholars read hieroglyphs. Because the trip is private, you can walk the streets at your own speed. You are back in Alexandria by mid-afternoon.
