02Overview
A first look
This tour pairs Egypt's best-known sights with its Mediterranean port. You spend two nights in Cairo and see the Giza Pyramids, the Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum with an Egyptologist guide on day 2.
On day 3 you drive north to Alexandria, stopping at the Coptic monasteries of Wadi Natrun and at Pompey's Pillar. You stay two nights there, with a full day for the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, the Citadel of Qaitbay and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. Day 5 starts at the Graeco-Roman Museum and ends with the road back to Cairo and your airport transfer. It is a long travel day, so plan your flight home with that in mind. Everything is by road, with no domestic flights. You choose the standard of hotel when you book, and the sightseeing stays the same.

Day by day
Detailed itinerary
5 Days / 4 Nights · Cairo · Giza · Alexandria
- 1
Your driver meets you in the arrivals hall at Cairo Airport and takes you to your hotel, about an hour away. The rest of the day is free to rest after your flight. No meals are included today, and your hotel can point you to somewhere to eat nearby.
- 2
A full day with your English-speaking Egyptologist guide. You are collected at your hotel and visit the Giza Plateau, with the pyramids and the Great Sphinx. Lunch is at a restaurant with a view, then you go on to the Grand Egyptian Museum. The Giza visit takes 4 to 6 hours, and the vehicle, the entrance fees and bottled water are included. You return to your hotel for a second night in Cairo.
- 3
After breakfast you leave Cairo by road for Alexandria, with a stop at Wadi Natrun, home to Coptic monasteries. Pompey's Pillar is the other stop on the way to the city. The transport, the entrance tickets for the Alexandria sites in this bundle and lunch are included. You spend the night in an Alexandria hotel. This is a long day on the road, so we keep the pace easy.
- 4
Today is for Alexandria itself. You visit the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, where Egyptian, Greek and Roman styles meet, the Citadel of Qaitbay, the 15th-century fort on the harbor, and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the modern library built beside the site of the ancient one. Entrance fees and transport are included. You spend a second night in Alexandria.
- 5
In the morning you visit the Graeco-Roman Museum, with the entrance fee included. Then you take the road back to Cairo by way of Wadi Natrun, and transfer to the airport for your departure. This is a long travel day. Because you only reach Cairo on the day you leave, an afternoon or late-evening flight home is safest.

Field notes
From our Egyptologists
- 01
Start the Giza visit early, before the strongest sun and tour buses arrive.
- 02
At Khan El Khalili, ask for a price before buying, then compare one nearby shop.
- 03
For mosque visits, wear long trousers or a skirt and bring a light scarf.
- 04
Alexandria often feels windier than Cairo, so a light layer helps near Qaitbay Citadel.
- 05
The best photos at the Citadel are usually taken after midday haze lifts.

Asked & answered
Frequent questions
01Are there any domestic flights on this tour?
No. You travel by road between Cairo and Alexandria in both directions. The only international leg is your own flight into and out of Cairo.02How many nights do we spend in each city?
Two nights in Cairo and two nights in Alexandria, so four hotel nights in all. Breakfast is included on the mornings of days 2 to 5, and day 1 has no meals.03Which hotels will we have?
You choose a standard when you book, from budget to luxury, and we name the hotels for your dates. The itinerary and sightseeing are the same at every standard.04Will I make my international flight?
Domestic and international tickets are usually separate bookings, but here there is no domestic flight to go wrong. The risk is the road: you return to Cairo on the day you leave, so traffic or a delay can eat into your time. An afternoon or late-evening flight is the safest choice. Take travel insurance that covers missed connections.05How long is the road travel?
Days 3 and 5 both include a long drive between Cairo and Alexandria, with Wadi Natrun on the way each time. Day 5 is a full travel day, because the Graeco-Roman Museum visit comes before the drive back and your airport transfer.06Are the guide and entrance fees included?
On the Giza day an English-speaking Egyptologist guide, the entrance fees and the vehicle are included. For Alexandria, the transport and the entrance tickets for the listed sites are included.07What is not included?
International flights, the Egypt visa, tips for guides and drivers, drinks other than those stated, and meals not listed. Dinners are not included on any day.08Does the tour include the Nile or Luxor?
No. This tour covers Cairo and Alexandria only. Ask us about longer tours that add a Nile cruise or the temples of Luxor and Aswan.09When is the best time to go?
October to April is cooler and the most comfortable for sightseeing. Cairo summers are hot, so days start early. Alexandria can feel breezy and cool in winter.
