Luxor has more ancient monuments than most countries. Cairo has the Pyramids. If your trip sticks to the Nile valley, the Giza plateau can feel like a missing piece. The flight day trip is a way to see it without moving hotels.
It is a long day, and we want you to choose it with open eyes. Here is what happens and who it suits.
How the day runs
You are collected from your Luxor hotel or cruise boat around half past four in the morning and driven to Luxor Airport. The flight to Cairo takes about an hour. Your guide and driver meet you at the airport in Cairo, and you drive to the Giza plateau.
At Giza you see the Great Pyramid, Khafre, Menkaure and the panorama point, then the Great Sphinx and the Valley Temple. After lunch you go to the Grand Egyptian Museum for the Grand Staircase and the Tutankhamun galleries. You fly back in the evening and are returned to your hotel or boat.
How booking works
You book online. We then check seats on the flights for your date, and confirm the trip once we have them. No payment is taken until confirmation, so you are not paying for something that cannot be done.
Flights are economy and are included in the trip, together with the transfers at Luxor Airport, the private vehicle and guide in Cairo, entrance tickets and lunch. Flight times follow the airline schedule on your date, so the exact times may differ from the usual pattern.
Who it suits
- Nile cruise guests who will not visit Cairo
- Travelers with a few days in Luxor and a strong wish to see Giza
- Anyone fit enough for a very early start and a late return
If you can add a night in Cairo, a longer stay will give you more time at Giza and a calmer day. This trip exists for people who cannot.
Who might say no
Very early starts are hard for some travelers, especially after several busy days. Families with young children, or anyone who dislikes airports, may find 15 hours too long. If you are unsure, tell us about your trip, and we will give you a straight answer.
A good test: if you would be disappointed to leave Egypt without seeing the Pyramids, it is worth it. If you would just like to see them, perhaps not.
How to prepare
Keep your passport and booking confirmation easy to reach. You pass through airport security twice, so pack light and wear comfortable shoes. A small bag with a hat, sunscreen, a light jacket and a charger is enough.
Eat well in Luxor the night before and go to bed early. The transfer leaves while it is still dark, and you will want to be alert for the plateau.
On the way back, many guests nap on the plane. You return to Luxor in the evening, tired but pleased, and the guide arranges the private transfer to your hotel or boat.
Discovery Tours Egypt has been arranging trips like this since 1988, and our team checks seats on your behalf so you do not have to chase airlines. If the answer for your date is no, we will say so honestly and suggest alternatives.
