Ain Sokhna is a coastal town in Suez Governorate, on the western shore of the Gulf of Suez. The name means "the Hot Spring" in Arabic. It sits about 55 kilometers south of the city of Suez and roughly 120 kilometers east of Cairo, which makes it the nearest stretch of Red Sea coast to the capital.
That distance is the whole pitch. Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh need a flight. Ain Sokhna needs a car and a couple of hours, so it fits a Cairo trip as a beach day. It is a local resort coast, not an international resort hub, with the mountains of the Eastern Desert close behind. It also has real history: archaeologists have found an ancient Egyptian port here, used for sea expeditions as early as the Old Kingdom.

Best time to visit
Spring to autumn is the time for swimming. Day trips work for much of the year.
Egypt has a hot desert climate, and this is when a sea day is most welcome. Start early and plan the water for the middle of the day.
A comfortable middle ground for the beach and for the drive up into the mountains.
A day by the coast can still be pleasant, but decide how much swimming you want, and we will check conditions for your date.
