Classic Egypt Tours

A classic Egypt tour is the itinerary travelers have been taking for a century and still the right answer for a first visit: Cairo for the Pyramids of Giza and the Grand Egyptian Museum, Luxor for Karnak and the Valley of the Kings, and a Nile cruise south to Aswan via the perfectly preserved temple of Edfu and the twin-deity sanctuary of Kom Ombo, finishing with Abu Simbel. Our classic Egypt tours run at 4-star, with private Egyptologist guiding throughout, all internal flights, and all temple admissions included. The itinerary runs 7 to 10 days and is fully customisable from there.

The hallmarks

The hallmarks of a classic Egypt tour

A classic Egypt tour is the route American travelers have been booking for a century and still the right answer for a first visit. Picture standing before the Great Pyramid of Giza at 7am before the day-trip groups arrive, listening to your Egyptologist explain how the limestone casing stones once shone in the Nile sun. Then flying south to Luxor for Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, and Hatshepsut.

The Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan is the experience most clients remember most – temple visits in the morning, sundowner on deck in the afternoon, Edfu and Kom Ombo as you sail. Whether you want the standard 7-day shape or a longer 10-day version with a Red Sea decompression, every day on the classic circuit is built around private guiding, all admissions, and the rhythm Egypt rewards.

How to choose

How to choose your classic itinerary

Selecting the right classic Egypt tour comes down to how long you have and which segments matter most. Three pillars usually decide the shape.

Your travel length

Seven days is the most-booked length – Cairo + a 3-night Nile cruise + Abu Simbel. Eight to ten days lets you slow the cruise pace, add Alexandria, or finish at the Red Sea. Twelve to fourteen days unlocks the White Desert or a longer cultural sweep. Most American clients land on 7 or 10 days for a first visit.

Your accommodation tier

Classic runs from 4-star to 5-star. 4-star is the entry tier – Steigenberger Pyramids, Sonesta St. George Luxor, M.S. Concerto cruise. 5-star adds the Marriott Mena House, Sofitel Old Cataract, and a Sanctuary or Oberoi-class cruise. Suite tiers are covered under our luxury slice.

Your travel window

October through April is peak – comfortable daytime temperatures, dry, low humidity. November to February sells out six months ahead for Christmas and New Year. Spring break in March or April lines up with one of the prettiest weather windows in Upper Egypt. We don't run 7-day southern itineraries in late July or August by default.

    Princess Cleopatra Dahabiya Nile Cruise

    Nile (cruise route)

Sail seven days between Luxor and Aswan aboard the Princess Cleopatra Dahabiya, a traditional Nile sailing vessel with limited cabins. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and provide private transfers, mooring permits, and an Egyptologist for the cruise. We avoid large coach tours; shore visits are led by our Egyptologist and reserved for the dahabiya’s passengers. Unlike mass overnight Nile ships, a dahabiya sails slower and schedules longer stops at Kom Ombo and Edfu. Expect compact cabins and simpler onboard facilities; Wi‑Fi is intermittent and some temple visits start early to avoid crowds. Standard site entrance fees are included unless otherwise stated; pyramid interiors and premium tombs cost extra.

We do not run group-bus shore excursions; our Egyptologists lead private visits, and where scheduled we visit temples such as Kom Ombo and Edfu. Unlike packaged day trips from cruise ports, a four-day schedule compresses onshore time; we recommend adding nights in Luxor or Aswan to explore the West Bank or Philae at leisure. Expect compact cabins compared with land hotels, early starts, and walking on uneven ancient stone. Standard temple entrance fees are normally included; premium tombs and pyramid interiors are extra.

We don't run group-bus shore excursions; our Egyptologists lead private visits timed to avoid the busiest periods when possible. Unlike packaged 4-night cruises, this short itinerary concentrates on core temples such as Edfu and Kom Ombo instead of many rushed calls. Trade-offs: cabins are compact, days often start early, and expect walking on uneven ancient stone and limited shade at midday.

  11. Blue Shadow Nile CruiseBudget

    Blue Shadow Nile Cruise

We run small-group departures, maximum eight guests, with English-speaking Egyptologists guiding all listed tours. Full-board meals are served onboard, and we provide meet-and-assist on arrival, air-conditioned transfers, entrance fees to the listed sites, and a complimentary bottle of water per person per day. The Aswan disembarkation includes an optional Abu Simbel excursion. Compared with shorter Nile sailings, the 7-night itinerary spaces temple visits over more days to avoid back-to-back early mornings. Arranged by Discovery Tours Egypt, a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we arrange all on-the-ground details and local guides for each excursion.

Embarkation is available in Aswan or Luxor, and passengers dine on full-board meals served aboard. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator. We coordinate meet-and-assist, transfers, and shore excursions while you travel on Radamis I. Unlike short shuttle cruises, this itinerary schedules proper guided visits at Edfu and Kom Ombo rather than very brief stops. Optional Abu Simbel excursions can be arranged from Aswan on request. Most departures include an evening folkloric show on board, and the cruise concludes with visits to Karnak and Luxor Temples on the East Bank.

    From $5407 Nights
  13. Hambra Nile CruiseBudget

    Hambra Nile Cruise

Hambra sails between Aswan and Luxor, visiting Upper Egypt's principal Pharaonic sites. The route calls at the High Dam, Philae Temple, and the Unfinished Obelisk in Aswan. It then stops at Kom Ombo and Edfu, with an afternoon chariot ride offered at Edfu Temple, followed by the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut's Temple, and the Colossi of Memnon on the West Bank. East Bank visits include Karnak and Luxor Temples. The program runs as a 4-day route from Aswan or a 5-day route from Luxor, allowing more time at Edfu and Kom Ombo than many shorter packaged cruises.

  14. Concerto Nile Cruise

    Concerto Nile Cruise

Sail the Nile between Luxor and Aswan aboard the Concerto, visiting Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, Edfu, Kom Ombo, and Philae. The vessel runs in both directions, allowing embarkation in Luxor or Aswan. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator, and our Egyptologists lead the guided visits, with on-site groups limited to eight guests for commentary and questions. Onboard facilities include a swimming pool, spa, panoramic lounge, and a sun deck used for lunches; evenings often feature a folkloric show. Unlike some motor-cruise schedules, this itinerary allocates longer visits at Edfu and Kom Ombo, and leaves afternoons for leisure or optional extras. We handle local arrangements on the ground, so you meet your guide at embarkation and proceed directly to the scheduled visits.

  15. Nile Story - Nile CruiseBudget

    Nile Story - Nile Cruise

Nile Story Nile Cruise sails between Aswan and Luxor, calling at Kom Ombo, Edfu, and Luxor's East and West Banks. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and our Egyptologists lead all guided visits. The cruise runs as a small-group operation, limited to 1–8 guests, which keeps landings and temple visits quieter than on large Nile ships. Embarkation is available in Aswan or Luxor, and our team provides private meet and assist services at arrival. Visits focus on named sites and context, for example the Ptolemaic reliefs at Kom Ombo and the well-preserved hypostyle halls on Luxor's East Bank. Compared with standard large-ship itineraries, this Comfort-class option allocates more time ashore at Edfu and Kom Ombo, so walking routes around temples are less rushed.

Unlike many packaged 4-day cruises, we time departures and shore visits to reduce queues and waiting at the landing stages. Trade-offs: upper sun deck has limited shade at midday, and shore visits involve walking on uneven ancient stone and occasional early starts. Our Egyptologists lead all guided visits, and group sizes are small, limited to a maximum of eight participants. We do not run large coach tours; the small-group approach keeps landing parties compact and manageable. Unlike many short-stop itineraries, this cruise allows proper time ashore at Edfu and Kom Ombo, and selected departures offer an optional Abu Simbel excursion. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator, and our Egyptologists time visits to avoid the largest crowds when possible.

We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and we arrange transfers, meet-and-assist, and English-speaking Egyptologist-led visits. We run small-group guided excursions rather than large coach tours, which keeps time at the sites focused and unrushed. Unlike day-trip itineraries that return to a land base each evening, this cruise sleeps between Edfu and Kom Ombo so you visit the temples at quieter times. Onboard facilities include a sun deck, pool, restaurant, bar, and evening folkloric entertainment, with daily complimentary bottled water and all service charges included.

We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator, and our local team arranges meet-and-assist, transfers, and shore logistics so you step straight into each day’s programme.

    Helnan Dream Hotel, Cairo

    Cairo

Helnan Dream Hotel is a Cairo-area hotel we book as a convenient pre- or post-flight stop. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and arrange private airport pickups, luggage handling, and early check-in requests when rooms are available. We prefer this property for groups that value quieter grounds and direct vehicle access; unlike congested city-center hotels, transfers to central Cairo typically take 40–60 minutes by car depending on traffic. Trade-offs: it is not within walking distance of the Egyptian Museum or Khan el-Khalili, and evening peak traffic can extend transfer times. We can combine Helnan Dream nights with private tours or onward transfers to Giza, Luxor, or Aswan.

Unlike many three-night budget cruises, this itinerary includes both Edfu and Kom Ombo with fuller visit times. Standard site entrance fees are included; premium tombs (Tutankhamun, Seti I) and gratuities are excluded. Expect early starts, strong sun at midday and some walking on uneven ancient stone during excursions. We time visits to reduce waits where possible rather than running large coach-group schedules.

Typical calls include Karnak Temple, Luxor West Bank (Valley of the Kings), Edfu Temple, Kom Ombo Temple, and Philae on Agilkia Island. Unlike hotel day trips, the cruise moves you overnight between cities, reducing repeated baggage transfers. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we arrange private transfers, on-board meals, and our Egyptologists for guided visits to Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, Edfu, Kom Ombo and Philae. Distinctive POV: we prioritise longer on-site time at Edfu and Kom Ombo rather than brief drive-by stops common on mass-market overnight cruises. Comparison: unlike many cruises that limit Edfu to 90 minutes, our itinerary allocates a full morning ashore. Trade-offs: expect early starts, walking on uneven ancient stone, and limited shade at mid-day temple courtyards. Standard site entrance fees are included; pyramid interiors and premium tombs are excluded unless requested.

We handle all private transfers, embarkation formalities and daily briefing by our Egyptologists. We do not run group bus tours on this vessel; shore visits are scheduled and staffed by our guides. Compared with seven-night cruises, a 4-day option covers core Upper Egypt highlights with less time ashore and earlier mornings. Expect early starts, some uneven ancient stone underfoot and limited shade on temple esplanades; bring sturdy shoes and sun protection.

    Nile (cruise route)

MS Ruby 1 is a four-day Nile cruise operated by a licensed Egyptian tour operator. Typical 4-day itineraries run between Luxor and Aswan and commonly include Karnak Temple and the Valley of the Kings; confirm your ship’s exact calls when you book. We arrange private, Egyptologist-guided shore excursions rather than fixed coach schedules, so visits can be timed to avoid the busiest moments. Trade-offs: a four-day cruise concentrates highlights into fewer days, which usually means early starts and less time ashore at some sites. We handle transfers, embarkation logistics, and optional visits to premium tombs on request.

Unlike shorter 3-night, tightly timed cruises, this 4-day format allows unhurried visits to Luxor West Bank and Kom Ombo when the itinerary includes them. Trade-offs: expect early starts, long ashore walks on uneven ancient stone, and significant sun exposure on open decks and temple forecourts.

We use this hotel when clients need straightforward access to Mall of Egypt, local business districts, or suburban meetings. Unlike hotels on the Nile or in downtown Cairo, Novotel 6 October is outside the central museum and pyramid neighbourhoods, so transfers to the Egyptian Museum, Khan el-Khalili, or the Giza Plateau typically take 35–60 minutes by car depending on traffic. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we add private transfers and timed pickups for early starts. Trade-off: quieter suburban location and easier parking, but longer daily drives for central sightseeing.

Pickalbatros Dana Beach Resort sits on Hurghada’s Red Sea shore; we book rooms, transfers and day trips from the marina. We don't include this resort in rushed Nile circuits; we sell it as a beach complement to desert or Luxor visits. Compared with small Hurghada guesthouses, resort bookings centralize logistics: one transfer, one invoice, and excursions bookable through our office. Pros: straightforward airport transfers and easy access to snorkel and dive departures. Cons: busiest in July–August, limited beach shade at midday, and pool areas can be noisy. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator; ask about private transfers and dive bookings.

    Steigenberger Resort Achti Luxor

    Luxor

Steigenberger Resort Achti Luxor is a hotel in Luxor. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator we book rooms, private transfers and guided visits from the hotel. We recommend hotel stays in Luxor when clients plan full-day West Bank visits; hotels let you start early without the luggage restrictions of river cabins. Unlike short cruise stopovers, a multi-night hotel base lets you return mid‑afternoon for a break before an evening temple visit. Trade-off: hotel stays require daily transfers if you join a Nile cruise; we arrange those transfers and meet-and-greet services.

We do not run large coach tours at this property; most clients prefer private transfers and staggered arrival times. Unlike Hurghada city hotels, Sahl Hasheesh was planned around a protected bay and a pedestrian promenade. Trade-offs: limited shade at midday and summer daytime highs commonly exceed 95°F (35°C). Tell us your arrival time and we’ll reserve early check-in or a shaded room where available.

We offer Sonesta St. George rooms on Luxor's Corniche with direct Nile frontage and a central East Bank location. We prefer this hotel for clients who want immediate Nile access and easy walking access to Luxor Temple; unlike larger resorts outside the city, it places you in the town center. We arrange private transfers, licensed Egyptologist-guided visits, and specific room requests. Honest trade-offs: Corniche-facing rooms can experience street noise in the evening, so ask for higher-floor Nile views if you need quieter accommodation. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and handle confirmations and on-the-ground support.

We handle arrival logistics: your driver meets you in arrivals with a name card and transfers you to the hotel. We favour private transfers and on-request late check-in rather than fixed group shuttles. Unlike day-trip operators, an overnight gives you an evening to rest after arrival and to check sea and reef conditions before booking reef trips. Trade-offs: this is a single-night product; travelers planning diving or extended Sinai visits should add nights. We can add snorkeling, Ras Mohammed or Sinai excursions on request.

Stella Di Mare Hotel & Spa – Sharm El Sheikh

    Sharm El Sheikh

Stella Di Mare Hotel & Spa Sharm El Sheikh is a coastal hotel with spa facilities and direct access to Red Sea activities. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we arrange private transfers from Sharm El Sheikh International Airport (SSH), snorkeling and scuba with licensed local dive centres, and day trips to Ras Mohammed National Park. We treat Stella Di Mare primarily as a logistics base for Red Sea activity rather than a standalone sightseeing hotel. Unlike liveaboard dive cruises, a land-based stay lets you return to the same room each night and dine in Naama Bay after diving. Trade-offs: winter wind can reduce snorkel visibility and many reef sites require a short boat transfer.

We avoid large coach pickups; instead we supply private transfers and local reef guides for small groups. Unlike quieter Dahab or some Sinai dive lodges, Naama Bay concentrates hotels, restaurants, and evening venues within walking distance. Expect more evening noise and fewer secluded beaches than open-coast dive towns; rooms facing the promenade can be lively after 10 pm.

We arrange private transfers from Hurghada International Airport and can book Red Sea snorkel and dive excursions with local operators. Unlike many online aggregators, we handle room allocation, dietary requests, and late check-ins personally. Honest trade-offs: expect pool and beach-area noise in peak season, limited on-site evening options for local cuisine, and excursions that depend on Red Sea weather.

We prefer Tolip Aswan when clients prioritize straightforward, confirmable logistics rather than resort-style amenities. Unlike rooms booked indirectly via cruise operators, we confirm rooming and private transfers in advance and send arrival details before you travel. Note: clients seeking extended on-site leisure or a Nile-cabin experience often choose a river cruise or larger resort instead; tell us your priority and we will recommend the right option.

Steigenberger Cairo Pyramids Hotel is a Bed & Breakfast property in Giza, about 3.5 km (12-minute drive) from the Giza Plateau. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we arrange airport transfers, private drivers and Egyptologists; we do not run mass coach tours. Unlike downtown Cairo hotels near the Egyptian Museum, this hotel places you a short drive from Khufu and Khafre, which matters for early or late Plateau visits. Breakfast is included in the rate; pyramid-view rooms exist but are limited and often carry a supplement. Expect busier public areas at peak season and limited shade on rooftop terraces at midday.

Basma Executive Club Hotel – Aswan

    Aswan

Basma Executive Club Hotel is a practical city-center hotel in Aswan offering straightforward rooms and daily breakfast. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and we book rooms, arrange airport and cruise-terminal transfers, and provide 24/7 local support. We favor simple, locally managed hotels in Aswan rather than large riverside cruise hotels because they keep your nights flexible and reduce luggage moves at dawn. Unlike Nile cruise cabins, city hotels usually give larger rooms and easier late-night access to Aswan's restaurants and shops. Trade-offs: rooms are generally compact and many have limited Nile views; ask us at booking if a Nile-view room is available. We confirm room types, breakfast inclusion, and transfer timings in writing.

Abu Simbel by Road from Aswan (Day Tour)

    Abu Simbel

Drive from Aswan to Abu Simbel by road, a 280 km transfer taking about 3.5–4 hours each way. Our Egyptologist accompanies the transfer and guides you at both temples: the Great Temple of Ramesses II and the Small Temple of Nefertari. We normally depart before sunrise (around 3:00–3:30 AM) so you arrive for morning light and cooler temperatures; expect roughly two hours on site. Distinctive point of view: we prefer road transfers because they avoid airport queues and deliver a predictable schedule. Trade-offs: it is an early start and a long round trip, with limited shade at the site midday.

  49. Sharm El Sheikh Hotel to Sharm El Sheikh Airport Transfer

Sharm El Sheikh Hotel to Sharm El Sheikh Airport Transfer

    Cairo

Private transfer from Sharm El Sheikh hotels to Sharm El Sheikh International Airport (SSH), timed to your flight and available for arrivals or departures. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we supply an English-speaking driver who meets you in the hotel lobby with a name card, assists with luggage, and uses an air-conditioned private sedan or minivan. We monitor flight times and adjust pickups for delays. We offer only private, point-to-point transfers; we do not place guests on mixed coach shuttles. Unlike many resort shuttle services, our driver brings you directly to the terminal curb and handles short-term parking formalities. Trade-off: coastal-road traffic at peak times between Naama Bay and the airport can add 20–40 minutes, so allow extra time for evening departures. Provide your flight number and mobile contact when booking; we confirm pickup details the day before travel.

    Safir Hotel Cairo, Cairo

    Cairo

Safir Hotel Cairo is a city hotel we often book for practical, budget-conscious stays in central Cairo. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we inspect rooms personally and keep transfers and guide services separate from any cruise or group packages. Compared with Nile-view luxury hotels, Safir typically offers more affordable rooms but fewer leisure facilities and no prominent river views. Rooms vary in age and size; some interiors may feel dated and street-facing rooms can experience traffic noise. We arrange private airport transfers, breakfast inclusions on request, and flexible check-in when available to match arrival schedules.

We don't run large coach tours to this property; we book private transfers and small-group dive trips instead. Unlike day trips that start from Hurghada but return the same day, a multi-night stay here lets you schedule morning and afternoon boat trips without rushing. Expect strong midday sun and potentially busy beaches in peak season; we confirm room categories, meal plans and any waterfront access at booking so you know what to expect.

    Boudle Grand Pyramids Hotel, Giza

    Cairo

Boudle Grand Pyramids Hotel is a Giza hotel frequently used by travelers visiting the Giza Plateau and the Pyramids of Khufu and Khafre. We use this hotel as a practical base for early-morning Pyramid visits because transfers are shorter than from central Cairo hotels. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we arrange airport meet-and-greet, private transfers, and pyramid-view room requests when available. Trade-offs: the property has a neighborhood footprint rather than resort-style facilities, and pyramid views vary by room and floor. We recommend requesting an early check-in if your flight arrives the same day as a scheduled Pyramid visit.

Practical questions

What travelers ask about this style of tour.

  1. 01What does a classic Egypt tour include?

A classic Egypt tour covers three regions: Cairo (Pyramids of Giza, Sphinx, Grand Egyptian Museum, Khan el-Khalili bazaar), Luxor (Karnak Temple, Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut's temple, Colossi of Memnon), and a Nile cruise from Luxor to Aswan (Edfu, Kom Ombo, Philae Temple) with Abu Simbel as a day trip. Included: private Egyptologist guide, all internal flights, all admissions, hotel transfers, and accommodation.

  2. 02How long is a classic Egypt tour?

Seven to ten days is the standard range. Seven days covers Cairo + a 3-night Nile cruise + Abu Simbel – the most-booked first-trip length. Eight to ten days lets you slow the cruise pace, add Alexandria, or insert a Red Sea decompression at the end. The 'classic' label refers to the temple-and-cruise circuit, not the duration – we run it at lengths from 5 to 15 days depending on what you want to fit in.

  3. 03How much does a classic Egypt tour cost?

Classic Egypt tours start around $1,315 per person for 7 days at 5-star with Nile cruise included. Mid-range (4-star hotels, 5-star ship) runs $2,200–$3,500 per person. Premium classic (suite hotels, Sanctuary or Oberoi ships) is $4,000–$6,500. Add 25–35% for Christmas, New Year, and US spring break. International flights from the US are separate.

  4. 04Should I choose classic over luxury or family Egypt tours?

Classic is the broadest umbrella – most first-time American visitors book classic at 5-star with a standard 5-star Nile cruise ship. Pick 'luxury' if you specifically want suite-only ships (Oberoi, Sanctuary) or sunrise Pyramids access; pick 'family' if you're traveling with kids under 16 and need pace-adjustment + family rooms. If you're a couple or solo traveler doing Egypt for the first time at 4–5 star, classic is the right entry shape.

  5. 05Is a Nile cruise included on every classic Egypt tour?

On 7-day and longer classic Egypt tours, yes – the Nile cruise is the defining southern segment. We offer two cruise lengths: a 3-night sailing Aswan → Luxor (matches the 7-day shape) or a 4-night sailing Luxor → Aswan (matches the 8-day shape and longer). Land-only classic variants exist (Cairo + Luxor + Aswan in hotels, no ship) – see our /egypt-tours/land-only/ slice for those. The cruise is the default for first-time visitors.
