Why Toronto has better Egypt service than any US city
Three structural reasons. (1) Canada's Egyptian diaspora is concentrated in the GTA – second-largest community in North America after metro New York. (2) Air Canada has prioritized Cairo as a 787-9 route since 2017; the load factor consistently exceeds 85%. (3) EgyptAir's bilateral agreement with Canada is more generous than its US slot allocation, allowing seasonal YYZ frequency growth without the constraint EgyptAir faces at JFK.
Net effect: between Air Canada year-round and EgyptAir seasonally, Toronto frequently has 8+ weekly Cairo nonstops – the best non-stop coverage of any North American city.
Aeroplan and Star Alliance redemptions
If you have Aeroplan miles, YYZ–CAI is one of the best uses on the program:
- Economy: 35,000 Aeroplan miles one-way nonstop on Air Canada
- Premium Economy: 55,000 Aeroplan miles
- Signature Class (business): 75,000 Aeroplan miles
Lufthansa First class via Frankfurt is also bookable from YYZ with Aeroplan at 100,000 miles one-way – the best long-haul First product in the air, and Aeroplan is one of the few programs that still releases LH First space (typically 14 days out).
Visa and entry for Canadians
Canadian passport holders need an Egypt visa, available either online at visa2egypt.gov.eg ($30 USD, recommended) or on arrival at any international airport for $35 cash USD. CAD is not accepted at the visa booth – bring small clean USD bills. The e-Visa is faster and avoids the airport queue, particularly important at Christmas and March Break peaks.
What we handle once you land
Same meet-and-greet at Cairo Airport as for our US and UK guests – uniformed rep at arrivals with a name-board, optional pre-arranged visa fast-track (~$45 per person), transfer to the hotel. Most Toronto-based guests do a 10–14 day Cairo + Nile cruise itinerary, often with a 4–7 day Red Sea or Jordan extension. We work with several GTA-based travel agencies – happy to coordinate if you prefer to book through your agent.
