What we do

Private day tours, run by Egyptians, since 1988.

Egypt day tours are single-day private excursions with a licensed Egyptologist guide, hotel pickup, and all entrance fees. Discovery Tours Egypt has run them since 1988 from offices nationwide – Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Hurghada, Marsa Alam, and Sharm El Sheikh.

Discovery Tours Egypt runs private, guided day tours across all of Egypt's headline destinations – the Pyramids of Giza, Karnak and the Valley of the Kings in Luxor, Philae and Abu Simbel from Aswan, the Mediterranean at Alexandria, and the Red Sea reefs off Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh. Every tour includes hotel pickup, an Egyptologist guide, entrance fees, and a private vehicle. We have been operating from our Cairo head office since 1988, with branch offices in Luxor, Aswan, Hurghada, Marsa Alam, and Sharm El Sheikh.

Day tour geography

Egypt's day-tour destinations at a glance

Cairo, Giza, Luxor, Aswan and Alexandria form the ancient-Egypt trail along the Nile. Hurghada, Marsa Alam, and the Sinai resorts of Sharm El Sheikh and Dahab are the Red Sea departure hubs – for snorkel, dolphins, and long-day flying excursions back to the Nile Valley.

  • Ancient sites · Cairo · Giza · Luxor · Aswan · Alexandria
  • Red Sea & Sinai · Hurghada · Marsa Alam · Sharm · Dahab

The best day tour is the one you don't have to organize yourself. We've been arranging them, in this country, since 1988.

Plan your day

How to choose your Egypt day tour

Three ways to narrow down – by what you want to see, by how long you want to be out, and by where you're sleeping.

Pyramids, temples & tombs 01

By history

Pyramids, temples & tombs

First trip and one day in Cairo? Pyramids of Giza + Grand Egyptian Museum, full-day. For Pharaonic depth: Luxor's Valley of the Kings, Karnak, and Hatshepsut on a single full-day East/West Bank circuit. From Aswan, Abu Simbel is the standout – by road or by 40-minute flight.

Reefs, dolphins & the Nile 02

By water

Reefs, dolphins & the Nile

Snorkel Giftun and Mahmya from Hurghada, Ras Mohammed and Tiran from Sharm El Sheikh, the Sataya dolphin reef from Marsa Alam, or the Blue Hole and lagoon from Dahab. Or skip the salt water – take a felucca from Aswan, Cairo's Maadi Corniche, or Luxor at sunset.

Half-day, full-day, or two-cities-in-one 03

By pace

Half-day, full-day, or two-cities-in-one

Half-day tours (4–5 hr) suit cruise stopovers and travelers with kids. Full-day tours (8–10 hr) cover combos like Giza + Saqqara + Memphis or Luxor East + West Bank. Flying day-trips (Cairo from Hurghada, Abu Simbel from Aswan) start before dawn and return after sunset – book a rest day on either side.

What's day-trip range from your hotel 04

By base

What's day-trip range from your hotel

Egypt is long. From Cairo, Alexandria or Fayoum is easy. From Hurghada or Sharm, Luxor and Cairo are 5–6 hr road runs each way – flying is faster but pricier. From Sharm or Dahab, Mount Sinai's sunrise climb is a midnight start, back by mid-morning. From Marsa Alam, Wadi El Gemal is just 90 minutes south.

Common questions

Questions we hear most

What's included in an Egypt day tour with Discovery Tours Egypt?
Every Egypt day tour includes private hotel pickup and drop-off in an air-conditioned vehicle, a licensed Egyptologist guide, all entrance fees to the sites listed in the itinerary, bottled water, and applicable taxes. Meals are included on full-day tours where stated; tipping is at your discretion.
Are your Egypt day tours private or shared?
Most of our Egypt day tours are private: you, your party, your guide, and your driver. A few small-group experiences (Red Sea snorkeling, desert safaris) are run as shared trips for cost reasons; the booking page makes this explicit. There is no last-minute combining of strangers into your vehicle.
How early do day tours pick up from my hotel?
Pickup time depends on the tour and city. Cairo and Giza tours typically depart 7–8 am. Day tours from Hurghada or Sharm El Sheikh to Luxor or Cairo start at 4–5 am because of the drive distance – we provide a packed breakfast box. Aswan to Abu Simbel by road departs around 4 am; by flight, around 6 am.
What is the cancellation policy for Egypt day tours?
Day tours can be cancelled up to 48 hours before the scheduled pickup for a full refund. Cancellations within 48 hours may incur a small fee depending on the supplier (e.g. domestic flight tickets to Abu Simbel are non-refundable once issued). Free re-scheduling is offered when you tell us in advance.
Are Egypt day tours suitable for children and seniors?
Yes. Our private day tours are family-friendly – pace, walking distance, and stops can be tailored on the day. Child seats and slower itineraries (e.g. half-day Pyramids instead of full-day Pyramids + Saqqara + Memphis) are available on request. For seniors, we recommend Pyramids + Grand Egyptian Museum (low walking) over the Saqqara/Memphis combo.
Do I need a visa to take a day tour in Egypt?
Most travelers (US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia) need an Egyptian tourist visa. The standard option is the e-visa (visa2egypt.gov.eg, $30 USD, 30 days). We can also arrange your visa on arrival at Cairo, Hurghada, or Sharm El Sheikh airports as a $35 service. Cruise-passenger day tours from Sokhna or Safaga port often qualify for free 24-hour shore-excursion permits arranged by us.
Can I combine multiple day tours into one trip?
Yes – most travelers do. A typical week combines Cairo + Giza day tours (2–3 days), an internal flight to Luxor for Karnak + Valley of the Kings (1–2 days), then a felucca or cruise to Aswan with day trips to Philae and Abu Simbel. We can build the whole itinerary as a private package – speak to a specialist.
Is Egypt safe for day tours in 2026?
Yes. Tourist sites in Cairo, Giza, Luxor, Aswan, the Red Sea coast, and the Sinai resorts have a strong police and tourism-police presence. Discovery Tours Egypt has operated continuously since 1988 through every regional event; we monitor advisories from the US State Department and UK FCDO and adjust pickup routes when needed. Day tours to remote desert and border zones (Western Desert beyond Bahariya, Halaib Triangle, North Sinai) are not offered.
