Flights from Los Angeles to Egypt
Los Angeles has no nonstop service to Egypt – every routing involves a hub stop in Europe or the Gulf. The good news: LAX is one of the most connected airports in the world for premium one-stop options. Here's how Qatar, Turkish, Lufthansa, Emirates and the connect-via-JFK option actually compare.

Why there's no nonstop LAX–CAI
The route exists on paper as a potential EgyptAir or Delta service, but it's been studied and shelved repeatedly. The fundamentals: LAX–CAI is around 7,500 miles, near the edge of 787 and A330neo range eastbound (against jet-stream); the LA-area Egyptian and Coptic communities, while substantial, aren't big enough to fill a daily 787; and EgyptAir's slot priority remains JFK and IAD where premium-cabin demand is stronger.
Don't expect a nonstop to launch before late 2027 even in the optimistic scenario.
Best one-stop from LAX
Three routings actually compete:
- Turkish Airlines via Istanbul – 17h 50m total, daily. Fastest, cheapest economy fares ($900–1,200 typical), and Turkish business class is genuinely excellent for the price. Pick this if total journey time matters and you don't mind a 90-minute IST connection.
- Qatar Airways via Doha – 19h 30m total. The QSuite forward cabin is the best business class in the air, and Hamad International is the most pleasant long-layover airport on the route. Pick this for premium cabin or if you have AAdvantage miles to burn (95k one-way in J).
- Lufthansa via Frankfurt – 18h 30m total, the most reliable Star Alliance routing. Best if you're chasing UA / LH status or want to credit miles to United MileagePlus.
Avoid Emirates via Dubai unless you specifically want the A380 first-class shower-spa experience – the routing adds 3+ hours over Turkish for no Egypt-specific advantage.
Connecting via JFK vs going direct one-stop
Some LA-based travelers consider flying JetBlue / Delta / American to JFK and then catching the EgyptAir 787 nonstop. Don't bother. The transcon adds 6 hours total, two security clearances and a higher chance of misconnect. By the time you're done, you've spent 17–19 hours total – roughly the same as a clean Turkish via Istanbul connection – with worse fare and more headaches. Only do this if you're already in NYC for unrelated reasons.
What our LA-based guests typically book
Most West Coast guests opt for the Turkish Airlines economy direct one-stop and a 12–14 day itinerary on the ground – Cairo, Nile cruise, optional Abu Simbel, optional 4-night Red Sea extension at Hurghada with a EgyptAir 1h 10m hop from there back to Cairo for the return. We handle every land arrangement; you bring the air ticket and the camera.

Discovery Tours Egypt is an Egypt-based tour operator with offices across the country – Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Hurghada, Marsa Alam and Sharm el-Sheikh. Hold your own flights or let us package them; either way we handle every guide, ticket and transfer from the moment you land.
