Best time to go
The most comfortable months for this excursion are October through April, when daytime temperatures in Upper Egypt are generally milder and sightseeing is easier. Summer months can be very hot, especially from May to September, so early departures and water are important. During Ramadan and major Egyptian holidays, opening hours and traffic patterns may change, so schedules should be confirmed in advance.

A first look
Background
The facts
This full-day excursion starts in Aswan with hotel pickup and continues north by air-conditioned vehicle to Kom Ombo, Edfu, and Luxor. The route covers several major Upper Egyptian temple sites in one day, with guided stops and return transfer to Aswan the same day. Because the itinerary is road-based, travel time is a major factor, and the day is typically long with limited free time at each monument.
Kom Ombo Temple lies on the east bank of the Nile and is unusual in Egyptian temple architecture because it is a double temple dedicated to Sobek, the crocodile god, and Haroeris (Horus the Elder). The surviving structure is mainly Ptolemaic and Roman in date, and the site also includes reliefs associated with ancient medicine and ritual calendars. Edfu Temple, farther north, is one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt and was built during the Ptolemaic period for Horus; its walls, pylons, and inner sanctuaries preserve detailed inscriptions and scenes.
Luxor Temple was begun under Amenhotep III in the 18th Dynasty, with major additions by Ramesses II and later rulers. It was closely connected with royal ceremonies and the Opet Festival, and today it remains one of the most important monuments on the east bank of Luxor. Visitors usually move through the main courtyard, colonnades, and sanctuary areas with an Egyptologist providing historical and archaeological context.
The drive between Aswan and Luxor is roughly 220 km, and Edfu sits between them along the Nile Valley, making the sequence of stops practical for a same-day overland excursion. Standard temple entrance fees are included in this product unless otherwise noted, while optional extras such as premium tombs or special interior access are not part of the itinerary.

Asked & answered
Frequent questions
-
01 How long is the Aswan, Kom Ombo, Edfu & Luxor day tour?
The tour is a single long day covering Aswan, Kom Ombo, Edfu, and Luxor in one calendar day. Expect an early start from Aswan and a late finish in Luxor; transit and site time typically fill most daylight hours. We provide a licensed Egyptologist and either a private vehicle or small-group transport depending on the booking. This schedule is tight compared with multi-day options, so plan a light day afterward. -
02 How much driving is there on the Aswan, Kom Ombo, Edfu & Luxor day tour?
Expect extended road time between Aswan and Luxor with stops at Kom Ombo and Edfu. The route follows the Nile corridor and involves several one-to-two hour driving segments with shorter stops at each temple. Unlike overnight Nile cruises, this day tour is road-intensive and compresses river visits into a single day. We schedule comfort breaks and photo stops and can adjust pickup points where feasible. -
03 Which temples and sites does the Aswan, Kom Ombo, Edfu & Luxor day tour visit?
The itinerary typically includes Kom Ombo temple, Edfu temple, and selected Luxor monuments. The usual sequence is Aswan → Kom Ombo → Edfu → Luxor, but exact Luxor sites depend on opening hours and daily logistics. Our licensed Egyptologist will confirm which Luxor sites are feasible that day. Standard site entrance fees are included unless we state otherwise; premium tombs and interiors are excluded. -
04 Are entrance fees and an Egyptologist guide included?
Standard site entrance fees and a licensed Egyptologist guide are included unless stated otherwise. Premium extras such as Tutankhamun/Seti I tombs, pyramid interiors, hot-air balloons, and gratuities are excluded. Personal expenses and optional boat rides are also not included. We operate as a licensed Egyptian tour operator and will list inclusions and exclusions on your booking confirmation. -
05 Is the Aswan–Luxor day tour suitable for travelers with limited mobility?
This tour is not fully accessible; it involves walking on uneven ancient stone, stairs, and boarding small boats. Temple approaches commonly have stairs and uneven surfaces at Kom Ombo and Edfu, and long vehicle transfers increase fatigue. If you have reduced mobility, tell us at booking: we can prioritise easier sections, arrange closer drop-offs, and slow the pace, but full accessibility cannot be guaranteed. Mobility aids and an accompanying helper are recommended. -
06 What should I bring and wear for the tour?
Bring sun protection, comfortable walking shoes, a hat, water, and modest clothing for temple visits. Light long sleeves and a scarf are useful for sun protection and for entering temples or mosques where modest dress is required. Carry cash for tips and small purchases, a lightweight daypack, and any personal medications. During Ramadan some site hours can change and midday heat is intense–plan accordingly.

Distinctive point of view: we prefer road transfers because they avoid airport queues and deliver a predictable schedule. Trade-offs: it is an early start and a long round trip, with limited shade at the site midday.

CairoAlexandria Day Tour – incl. Wadi Natrun Monasteries
A full-day private tour from Cairo visiting Alexandria’s major sites and two Coptic monasteries in Wadi Natrun. We travel by private vehicle with one Egyptologist for the whole day; we do not run coach-bus group schedules. Unlike cruise-shore excursions that start from the port, this itinerary begins and ends in Cairo so you avoid port transfers. Expect a long day with significant driving: Alexandria is about 220 km (≈3 hours) from central Cairo and Wadi Natrun is about 90 km (≈1.5 hours). Moderate walking on uneven ancient stone and monastery courtyards is required.
