Best time to go

The most comfortable months are usually October to April, when daytime temperatures are milder and outdoor walking is easier. In summer, temperatures can be very high by late morning, so arriving early helps reduce heat exposure and queue times. During Ramadan and public holidays, opening patterns and crowd levels may change, so checking current hours is advisable.

02 Overview

A first look

The Giza Plateau contains the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, the Great Sphinx, and the Solar Boat Museum. Standard plateau entrance is typically included; premium pyramid interiors and private guided access to specific tombs are extra and require advance requests.

Background

The facts

The Pyramids Area on the Giza Plateau is the protected archaeological zone surrounding the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure on the west bank of the Nile in Cairo. The Great Pyramid of Khufu was built during Egypt’s Fourth Dynasty around 2600 BCE and is the oldest and largest of the three principal pyramids on the plateau. The site also includes the Great Sphinx area and broad desert viewpoints used by visitors to see the pyramid complex from ground level.

This admission grants entry through the official site gates and access to the plateau viewpoints, but it does not include pyramid interiors. Access to the interior of the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Pyramid of Khafre, and any premium tombs requires separate tickets if available. Security screening is standard at the entrance, and opening hours can vary seasonally, so visitors should check current hours before arrival.

The Giza Plateau is located about 13 to 18 km from central Cairo depending on the starting point and traffic conditions. Because the site is exposed and shaded areas are limited, early morning visits are typically more comfortable, especially in hot months. Photography rules and tripod permissions may vary by authority at the gate, so visitors should confirm what is permitted before entering.

Asked & answered

Frequent questions

  1. 01 Can I go inside the Great Pyramid (Khufu)?
Yes – entry to the Khufu pyramid interior requires a separate ticket and is not included by default. The interior has low ceilings and steep, narrow passages; many travelers find the climb physically demanding. Tickets are limited and often need advance booking; we are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and can request interior access for you. If you prefer, we leave the interior out and focus on the plateau, Sphinx, and photo viewpoints to avoid the extra climb and fee.
  2. 02 How long should I plan to visit the Giza Plateau and the Sphinx?
Allow at least two to three hours to see the three pyramids and the Great Sphinx at a comfortable pace. Walking between viewpoints and the Solar Boat Museum takes time; add more if you want a camel ride or the Khufu interior. Unlike packed coach day trips, we time visits to reduce overlap with large tour groups when possible. Expect limited shade and uneven stone underfoot, which slows mobility in hot weather.
  3. 03 Are entrance tickets to the Pyramids included when I book with you?
Standard site entrance fees are included unless the product description says otherwise. Pyramid interiors (Khufu/Khafre) and premium experiences such as private access or premium tombs are excluded unless explicitly added. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we handle ticketing and timing to minimise queueing and can add interior tickets on request. Bring your passport on the day; entrance checkpoints may ask to see ID.
  4. 04 Can I ride a camel or take photos with a camel at the Pyramids?
Yes; camel and horse handlers are independent contractors and require direct payment on site. Short rides and photo opportunities are widely offered, but prices are not regulated and negotiation is normal. We can pre-arrange a supervised camel ride through local partners so you avoid persistent sellers and safety concerns. Note that rides are on sand and uneven ground; they are not recommended for guests with recent back or hip injuries.
  5. 05 What should I wear and bring for a visit to the Pyramids area?
Wear sturdy walking shoes, a sun hat, high-SPF sunscreen, and carry at least one liter of water per person for short visits. Temperatures are high midday; lightweight long sleeves protect from sun and dust, and modest dress (covered shoulders and knees) is recommended for nearby religious sites. Avoid high heels or slippery soles–the plateau has sand, gravel, and worn stone steps. A light scarf helps against wind-blown sand and for modesty if you enter a mosque.
  6. 06 Is the area around the Pyramids safe for tourists?
Yes; the Giza Plateau has staffed security checkpoints and a regular police presence. Common issues are persistent souvenir sellers and unofficial guides near parking areas; we advise a firm no and to follow your Egyptologist or driver. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we provide meet-and-assist and private transfers to reduce time in public waiting areas. Keep valuables secured, carry photocopies of passports, and avoid leaving bags unattended during photo stops.

Abu Simbel Temples – Ramses II & Nefertari (Aswan)Aswan

Abu Simbel Temples – Ramses II & Nefertari (Aswan)

Abu Simbel comprises two rock-cut temples built by Ramses II and Queen Nefertari, relocated in 1964–1968 to avoid flooding from the Aswan High Dam. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and arrange private road transfers (280 km, about 3 hours 30 minutes) or short domestic flights, private guiding, and overnight stays in Abu Simbel village. The Great Temple faces east and aligns with the sun on February 22 and October 22. Distinctive view: unlike coach-shuffle day trips, we favour private transfers or flights and recommend the overnight option so clients can see the sunrise illumination with fewer crowds. Trade-offs: the site has limited shade, intense midday heat, and requires an early start or a long road transfer.

Abu Simbel Temples – Sun Festival (22 Feb / 22 Oct)Aswan

Abu Simbel Temples – Sun Festival (22 Feb / 22 Oct)

Attend the Abu Simbel Sun Festival on 22 February or 22 October and watch sunlight enter the inner sanctuary. The temples are part of the UNESCO-listed Nubian Monuments and were relocated between 1964 and 1968 during the Aswan High Dam project. Sunlight illuminates the statues of Amun-Re, Ra-Horakhty, and Ramses II; Ptah remains in shadow. Abu Simbel is about 280 km south of Aswan (≈3.5–4 hours by road) or a short scheduled domestic flight (≈40 minutes), so the festival requires dedicated logistics. We do not bundle the festival with other same-day sightseeing; it needs permits and a fixed arrival window. Expect a pre-dawn pickup, security checks, and limited shade at the site. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and arrange permits, transfers, and on-site briefings.

Al-Moez Street Entry TicketCairo

Al-Moez Street Entry Ticket

Al-Moez Street is a medieval Cairo thoroughfare lined with Fatimid and Mamluk-era monuments, gates and historic façades. This admission grants access to the pedestrianised street and its visible monuments, including views toward Bab Zuweila and the Mosque of Al-Hakim. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we arrange the ticket and send it to you by email as a PDF after booking. Unlike a museum admission, the street is an open historic quarter rather than a single indoor site, so visiting times are flexible but subject to seasonal opening hours and special events.
