Best time to go
The most comfortable months for visiting Cairo and Giza are generally October to April, when daytime temperatures are milder and walking conditions on the plateau are easier. Summer months can be very hot, and interior access may feel more strenuous because of limited airflow and confined spaces. If possible, arrive early in the day to reduce exposure to heat and peak visitor flow. Opening hours and last admission can change seasonally or for conservation reasons, so check the official schedule before traveling. During Ramadan and major public holidays, timing and visitor levels may also differ.
02 Overview
A first look
Entry to Khufu's interior involves narrow, angled passageways and low ceilings. Interior tickets are sold separately from general Giza admission; we arrange timed entry and can add one of our Egyptologists to accompany you.
Background
The facts
Khufu's Pyramid, also known as the Great Pyramid of Giza, is the largest of the three main pyramids on the Giza Plateau in Cairo. It was built for Pharaoh Khufu during Egypt's Fourth Dynasty, around 2600 BCE, and remains one of the most important surviving monuments from the Old Kingdom. The pyramid is part of the Giza pyramid complex, approximately 13 km southwest of central Cairo.
An interior ticket grants access to the internal passage system of Khufu's Pyramid, including the ascending passage, the Grand Gallery, and the King's Chamber. Visitors enter through a narrow opening on the north side and move through low, confined passages with steep ramps in places. The interior is an ancient stone structure with limited ventilation, so the experience requires physical effort and careful footing.
This ticket is separate from standard plateau access and is used for entry into the pyramid's interior only. Interior admission is typically limited and can vary by season, daily operating conditions, and conservation rules. Because crowd levels and heat can be significant on the Giza Plateau, early-morning arrival is often the most practical option.
The interior is historically significant because it preserves the core architectural layout of the largest pyramid in Giza, including construction features that have been studied for centuries. The monument is located close to the Pyramid of Khafre, the Pyramid of Menkaure, and the Great Sphinx, making it part of the main archaeological landscape visited in Giza.

Is this for you?
Yes, if
- This admission suits travelers with a strong interest in ancient Egyptian archaeology, Old Kingdom architecture, or the Fourth Dynasty. It is also suitable for adults and older children who are comfortable with narrow, steep, and uneven ancient stone passages.
- Visitors who prefer self-guided site access and want to see one of Egypt's most famous internal monuments will find it most relevant. It is less suitable for anyone with mobility limitations, claustrophobia, or difficulty stooping for extended periods.

Asked & answered
Frequent questions
-
01 Can I go inside the Great Pyramid of Khufu?
Yes – interior access to Khufu's Pyramid is possible but requires a separate interior ticket. The interior visit passes through the Descending Passage, Grand Gallery and finishes at the King’s Chamber. Visitor numbers are limited and guards enforce short inside times to protect the monument. The Giza Plateau forms part of the UNESCO site 'Memphis and its Necropolis – the Pyramid Fields from Giza to Dahshur.' -
02 How do I buy tickets to enter Khufu's Pyramid interior?
You must book the Khufu interior ticket separately and ideally reserve it in advance. Standard Giza-Plateau admission does not include the interior; allocations sell out on busy days. We don’t automatically include the interior with our basic Giza visits – we book it only when guests request it. Bring the passport used for booking and arrive before your slot to pass security checks. -
03 Is the Khufu Pyramid interior suitable for people with mobility issues or claustrophobia?
No – the interior contains narrow, low-ceiling passages and steep, uneven stone steps that restrict movement. There are no ramps or lifts; wheelchair access is not possible and carrying a guest through the passage is typically prohibited. We advise people with serious heart, respiratory, or severe claustrophobia conditions to skip the interior and view Khufu from the plateau instead. -
04 Can I take photographs inside Khufu's Pyramid?
Photography rules inside Khufu's Pyramid vary and can be restricted on the day of visit. Flash, tripods, and large equipment are commonly banned; security personnel enforce the rules. We confirm the current policy when we book your ticket and advise packing a small camera or phone that you can use quickly in the passage. -
05 How long does a visit inside Khufu's Pyramid usually take?
A typical interior visit lasts about 20–40 minutes from entry to exit. Expect additional time for queuing, security screening, and walking on the Giza Plateau, so plan at least 60–90 minutes for the full stop. Guards may limit the time inside to protect the monument and manage visitor flow, especially on busy days. -
06 Are backpacks and large bags allowed inside Khufu's Pyramid?
Large backpacks and bulky luggage are not permitted in the interior passageways. Security checks at the plateau entrance screen bags, and you will need to leave oversized items in your vehicle or with a cloakroom service. We recommend carrying only a small daypack, water, and your passport for the interior visit.

AswanAbu Simbel Temples – Ramses II & Nefertari (Aswan)
Abu Simbel comprises two rock-cut temples built by Ramses II and Queen Nefertari, relocated in 1964–1968 to avoid flooding from the Aswan High Dam. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and arrange private road transfers (280 km, about 3 hours 30 minutes) or short domestic flights, private guiding, and overnight stays in Abu Simbel village. The Great Temple faces east and aligns with the sun on February 22 and October 22. Distinctive view: unlike coach-shuffle day trips, we favour private transfers or flights and recommend the overnight option so clients can see the sunrise illumination with fewer crowds. Trade-offs: the site has limited shade, intense midday heat, and requires an early start or a long road transfer.

AswanAbu Simbel Temples – Sun Festival (22 Feb / 22 Oct)
Attend the Abu Simbel Sun Festival on 22 February or 22 October and watch sunlight enter the inner sanctuary. The temples are part of the UNESCO-listed Nubian Monuments and were relocated between 1964 and 1968 during the Aswan High Dam project. Sunlight illuminates the statues of Amun-Re, Ra-Horakhty, and Ramses II; Ptah remains in shadow. Abu Simbel is about 280 km south of Aswan (≈3.5–4 hours by road) or a short scheduled domestic flight (≈40 minutes), so the festival requires dedicated logistics. We do not bundle the festival with other same-day sightseeing; it needs permits and a fixed arrival window. Expect a pre-dawn pickup, security checks, and limited shade at the site. We are a licensed Egyptian tour operator and arrange permits, transfers, and on-site briefings.

CairoAl-Moez Street Entry Ticket
Al-Moez Street is a medieval Cairo thoroughfare lined with Fatimid and Mamluk-era monuments, gates and historic façades. This admission grants access to the pedestrianised street and its visible monuments, including views toward Bab Zuweila and the Mosque of Al-Hakim. As a licensed Egyptian tour operator, we arrange the ticket and send it to you by email as a PDF after booking. Unlike a museum admission, the street is an open historic quarter rather than a single indoor site, so visiting times are flexible but subject to seasonal opening hours and special events.
